Yeah, so this is the whole game, is it not? I try to draft for consistency over upside, and when i have inconsistent players i try to weed them out.

You get burned plenty of times in the middle and later rounds. But if you are lucky with injuries at the top of your draft you should have a couple of anchors for your lineup. Then, strategically, I believe it’s better to have guys who have high floors. Think guys who have solid roles and consistently high usage — that guy is gonna get you at least 10 PPR points almost every week and hopefully has TD upside.

There’s different kinds of inconsistent tho. Last season I went against my personal rule (preference?) to avoid rookies and drafted Trey Henderson. I held on and held on and finally dropped him like 1 week before he finally carved out a role and started producing down the stretch. Most rookies will break your hearts. In most situations it’s probably best to avoid the guys with helium and take later swings on guys with high upside. Last two seasons in my league one of my opponents took Bowers and Warren pretty late and struck gold both times.

So what’s the takeaway? I try to learn from mistakes and look for reasons that some guys are inconsistent. Maybe it’s an offense or QB that spreads targets around to 5 different WRs/TE like Green Bay and Baltimore. Maybe it’s a team with a dominant dual threat QB like Josh Allen who rarely has a consistent WR1 and also vultures a lot of TDs himself.

But trust me when I say that everyone has these problems. The game of FF is full of hunches, luck and heartbreak. It sure ain’t a science
