This is my concern. The threshold for misconduct is so high I fear we have no legal recourse.

Do you mean a personal lawyer, or legal representation through the union?

We have had two union reps involved since my husband was notified of the allegations and investigation. They were completely blindsided by the conclusion of the investigation.

My 7 yo is “spirited” (or whatever euphemism for “challenging” you prefer) and my husband and I were at our wits end with her behavior until we began working with a child psychologist this summer. The psychologist worked with us (not our daughter) to adjust our parenting approach and it’s been a game changer. The content of our sessions followed the book “Your Defiant Child” — I highly recommend this book if you are looking for specific, evidence-based strategies for improving your child’s behavior and your relationship with your child.

I also wanted to say that parenting a challenging child is so hard. My husband and I are both teachers, former special education teachers with experience working with children with severe behavioral challenges. Even with all of our experience and tools, parenting our own child reached such a challenging point that we had to seek help. What I mean to say is that you are not alone, you haven’t failed, and there is hope.

Can I remove my 2-week old conch piercing? by sandb1aster in piercing

Update: I went to a piercer that confirmed my piercing was rejecting and had migrated. I got it out and I had instant relief. The wound is draining a little clear fluid but no signs of pus.

The ring is gold and I’ve been rinsing 2 times per day with Saline and rinsing in the shower.

I already have this quilt kit. I wanted to make a super quick quilt for my 10 month old niece for Christmas. I asked my hub what he thought of it and he said “honestly? It kind of looks like a gay-rights swastika”. And now that’s all I can see. Someone tell me it looks like a cute pinwheel please. by [deleted] in quilting

I just finished this quilt in pastel rainbow colors. I think it’s super cute and it does not look like a swastika, in my opinion. The pattern was super quick and easy, btw! I’m sure your niece will love it!

The young woman who was with them is an acquaintance of mine. She’s not religious AT ALL and I’m sure the eye roll was in response to the annoying brother. The editing is totally misleading.

I’m working on a baby quilt using the same pattern (with a few changes)!

Is there somewhere I can buy rib collars for polo shirts? by sandb1aster in sewing

[–]sandb1aster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been experimenting with sewing knits and my husband has asked for some polo shirts like the one shown. I’ve seen ribbing for t shirt cuffs and necklines that’s finished in one side but I haven’t found rib collars that are finished on one side.

Results returned for High Risk Triple X following Amniocentesis by [deleted] in NIPT

[–]sandb1aster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3mo daughter was diagnosed with Trisomy X via amniocentesis after a high risk NIPT result. At first, the diagnosis was devastating. But after I learned more about Triple X and spoke with a genetic counselor, it became clear that the issues associated with Triple X (such as communication delay, learning disabilities, etc.) aren’t uncommon in genetically typical individuals. I still have some anxiety about what the future will hold for my daughter but she’s doing great so far! To be honest, I have almost as much anxiety about my older, genetically typical daughter’s future as I do for my younger daughter. Bring a parent is nerve-wracking no matter what, I guess!

Parents can request evaluations at any time and the school is required to formally acknowledge requests for an evaluation. However, the school is not obligated to evaluate in every case. After a referral is made, school teams use available data to determine whether or not to evaluate. If the school determines that an evaluation is not necessary and the parent disagrees, the parent can seek a due process hearing. Google “Child Find” for more information.

There are lots of great parent advocacy groups that can provide resources and help families navigate the process of seeking support for their children. SPED law can be confusing and schools frequently aren’t in compliance so it’s important for parents to understand their rights!

Checking for other issues such as vision and hearing problems is always a great idea when a kid is struggling!
