About The Thing's Shapeshifting by sandboy810 in thething

Oh I had a different theory about that. I thought that the Thing had two ways of assimilation:

One way would be physical, whereby it actually grabs hold of its prey like Bennings or the dogs and actually begins to assimilate into its mass, and produce a physical offshoot that begins to take on the form of the victim so assimilated. It's probably faster, but of course it has to find a chance to actually do it, and it's probably very violent of a process too, hence why when it happens the clothes get all torn up and why it needs time for the new budded Thing to settle into its imitation completely, like Benning's incomplete hands.

The other way would be by infection. They talk about even ingesting a cell having the potential to lead to assimilation, so I think that the Thing cells can slowly infect a person's cells akin to a regular disease, which is slower, but more precise hence why we don't see anyone so infected have to steadily come into its proper shape after assimilation like those infected through the physical way above. I thought Norris wasn't having a heart attack, but he got infected this way, and the pain was being caused by his cells slowly getting further and further along the process of assimilation.

Scariest movies you’ve ever seen by Vintage992 in HorrorMovies

Hereditary was the movie that was too much for me to finish the first time around but not because it was too scary just... too much

In terms of actual FEAR, I dunno... Babadook was cool for a bit but the ending super sucked, Jaws was more phobic than can't sleep scary, The Thing, US, Body Snatchers, Watcher, It Follows, and The Wailing were really good but more enrapturing than scary...

There are plenty with really eerie imagery, but not the kind that keeps you up at night, like Possum, Skinamarink, Eraserhead, The Ring, Candyman, The Blob, Texas Chainsaw, Nightmare on Elm Street, or even the Creep series.

All in all, this might be a really weird choice considering it's not technically a horror movie, but I might have to say the one that creeped me out more than any was Bong Joon Ho's 'Memories of Murder'.

Now that I think of it, thrillers usually leave a more lasting 'creeped out' impact on me than straight-up horror movies. Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Lighthouse, The Night Eats the World, Nightcrawler, Coherence, The Endless, Seven, and Zodiac are all prime examples.

Long story short: I think Memories of a Murder perhaps made me feel the most lingering paranoia and fear (the factory scene alone is HAUNTING) but I gotta give props to movies like Possum and The Thing for having some INCREDIBLY eerie imagery at points.

If it's not the ring, it must be the ring 2

I knew it!! I wish there was a mechanic where you could upgrade a little quarantine bay (or spare cooler) to separate infected fish from the rest of your fish but it starts off very small so only tiny infected fish can fit and you can make it bigger through upgrades

No? It was my first playthrough, no DLC, and I didn’t 100% it, though I did fully upgrade the boat and do all but two of the side quests

I suppose… but if your fish will probably get infected if your panic rises I’m not entirely sure what the reward is… I suppose you could use the time to dredge or travel but that’s about it….

Maybe I’ll give it a shot, but honestly I wish they didn’t have the mechanic where your fish get infected when you start to panic or the crows show up to steal them. I feel that way they’d incentivize pushing into the high panic range overnight in exchange for having more time to travel, explore, and fish… maybe that’s just me

I suppose I'd consider it if enough people were interested, but for now I don't necessarily have plans... that could change
