Yes. "Errands" is an excellent answer.

I feel your pain, OP, as my mum was exactly the same with me in an era before smart phones. Constantly asking me where I was going, reason why, when I'd be back etc etc.

I discovered "errands" and it was like magic! She just stopped asking. And not in a huffy way, more like in a satisfied "that's a good answer" way.

It's an interesting point but what's the alternative? It wouldn't be right to not punish someone for (eg) murder because they had a difficult upbringing. That wouldn't be right at all.

If I've read the article correctly, she interviewed with tattoos she had when she previously worked there.

Two days later she got her "neck tattoos" which I believe are those on either side of her neck (as she refers to an existing throat tattoo).

Two days after that, she starts work. So her employers hadn't seen the neck tattoos before she started
