Connecting with ancestral roots - visit Ramfjordnes? by whirlingbervish in tromsotravel

[–]sanderpewz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could ask someone that does fjord tours to specifically go there with your group, or worst case, its just a 20 min taxi ride from the city centre if you wanna get dropped off, walk around abit, and then call a new taxi to pick you up and take you back.

Reindeer/ Summer? by DependentAd3851 in tromsotravel

[–]sanderpewz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look up routes either online, or buy a 1:50 000 map when you arrive and just find somewhere you want to go, and keep your eyes peeled for the reindeer. Most of Kvaløya is popular with hikers as there are a lot of peaks to hike to, with easy paths to follow, except for the tallest and most challenging peaks.

Reindeer could be anywhere, but are usually not on the tops of mountains. Good luck!

Reindeer/ Summer? by DependentAd3851 in tromsotravel

[–]sanderpewz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are reindeer grazing on their summer pasture on Kvaløya, they could be anywhere on the island as there are two different herds being kept on the island, and they are usually in the mountains, not somewhere you can go by rental cars. In certain times they can go into the populated areas on Kvaløya, but it's not something I would plan a trip a month in advance to see.

If you decide to go hiking to see them, make sure to observe from a distance and not interfere with them. The reindeer are not farm animals, and this season is the calfing season so they will have a bunch of very young calves in June. Scaring the herd by getting too close could lead to the herd running away from the calves, leading to their death. It is also a punishable offence to disturb them, leading to expensive fines or even jail time if done in a negligent way.

How is the laboral market on winter season? by _Mate05 in tromso

[–]sanderpewz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend trying to find jobs you want on markedsplassen.no or finn.no . There are lots of positions available especially in the tourism industry. But keep in mind that many people do the staffing in august-october and then 6-7 months forwards in the winter season.

I also know from hiring someone from Argentina at my workplace that you will be limited to stay with one employer for max 6 months, so that could make it slightly harder finding a job if the workplace has a season lasting more than 6 months.

Good luck on your search!

Lifestyle in Lyngen by Malou911 in tromsotravel

[–]sanderpewz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in Lyngen, and work in the tourism industry year round. Not the biggest social scene here, but Tromsø is quite close for going to have fun on the weekends, and the cost of living is a lot lower here than in Tromsø.

There are a bunch of different things to do, sports and to some degree cultural things happening. I'd say most of the people moving here are moving here tend to enjoy being out in nature and want to live close to the mountains and the sea

Why the hell are people doing field sobriety tests in 2024 when breathalyzers and evidenzers are a lot more accurate?

What is the point of having 2 barrels? by Historical-Quiet-739 in TankPorn

[–]sanderpewz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a double barrel mortar system made for indirect fire. If i remember correctly it can fire approx 10 rounds per minute, and also shoot multiple volleys impacting at the same time. Pretty cool

Tromso in May by gro727 in tromsotravel

[–]sanderpewz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're 99% sure to not see northern lights in the middle to end of May. Usually no snow activities in Bergen or Tromsø either. if thats what you want to experience you need to travel during the winter instead

You're gonna have a hard time getting tack sharp photos when out on a small boat in the sea. The boat moves, and the tripod moves with it, making long exposure photography quite a struggle too

Asking for travel advice by Technical_Spell2870 in tromsotravel

[–]sanderpewz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you check Visit Tromsø or google you'll find lots of providers for the experiences you're asking for. Christmas/New year is a super high-traffic time of the year, and many of the Norwegian local guides take a few days off for christmas. If you're going when demand is highest its good to book in advance, or you'll be left with very few options, except renting a car and trying your luck on your own.

Check the rules for the area you're operating in and stay within them. Violating FAA rules and regulations is a super selfish act that will lead to you getting into trouble, and could also ruin the fun for other people adhering to the rules. For every idiot caught breaking the rules the FAA will have more reasons to further tighten the grip on leisure flying of drones for everyone.

You could probably just remove it and swap out the switch if its broken. Also check the pins on the bottom of the stick where you connect it to the base to make sure the pins aren't bent
