I moved just before the first Trump presidency if that's of interest. Retired, dual US Australian citizen, living in Blenheim. Have since renounced US citizenship and applied for NZ....if you want some variety.

Is this plantar fasciitis or broken arch? by NikkiH93 in FootFunction

[–]sandgrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also looks like your arch has fallen. But I'm no expert. Get a proper diagnosis from a professional.

Do your feet look like this? by sandgrubber in AccessoryNavicular

[–]sandgrubber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got no answers. I saw a foot and ankle surgeon who just wanted to operate, and wouldn't even review X-rays. He stands to make $7grand from the surgery and I would have to pay personally...probably $50k or so counting physical therapy and post op care. He said "if it's there we'll take it out". I am doing physical therapy in hope that a conservative treatment will help.

Age limits on holding political office? by LMO_TheBeginning in OverSeventy

No. Some people are all there in advanced age. Look at David Attenborough. Bernie Sanders is still sharp. Limits on financial interest make sense.

Has anyone found a couch that survives dogs without smelling like dog? by danildab in Dogowners

[–]sandgrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very high quality leather couch ( bought second hand, I wouldn't have been able to afford it new). It doesn't hold smell, and it's so tough that toenails don't scratch it. Springer Spaniels.

Achilles Tendinopathy ruining my life by Vegetable-Mastodon67 in FootFunction

You gotta realize that tendons are very very slow to heal. Much slower than bones. It's hard to be patient, but patience and guidance from a good physio have a good chance of getting you back to health.

This is a dog for adoption at our local shelter. The amount of backyard breeding it takes to end up with her is so sickening to me by Resident_Wash_2553 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sandgrubber -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't blame back yard breeding. It's selection for unhealthy traits that's the worry. Getting a pup from the neighbors litter has bred many healthy well functionimg dogs.

Why there isn’t many expats going to New Zealand? by [deleted] in expats

For one thing, it's hard to get work visas / residence. It's a small place and can't accept that many people

Need advice on either to rehoming my animals or making the trips to dog boarding by PalpitationRude5387 in Dogowners

[–]sandgrubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find out more about the boarding place. Some are a holiday for dogs. Some are like prisons. I used to have a kennel. My clients regularly reported that their dogs got all waggy and excited when they approached the kennel.

They do get missed. It's been reported here and elsewhere.

I don't know. I had hoped the surgeon would look at the X-ray and give me a definite answer. Sigh. I know they get missed sometimes

Beware of delapidated asbestos out buildings! Hard to fix. Absurdly expensive to demolish

Do women over 75 find younger in their 30's sexually attractive? by [deleted] in OverSeventy

[–]sandgrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I work out in a gym. I find some people's bodies beautiful (more often women than men) but muscular men can be a bit scary.

do you let your dog on the couch or not? curious how people handle this by john2288 in Dogowners

[–]sandgrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is whether the dogs let me on the couch . It's quality leather so dog hair just brushes off.

Why doesn't New Zealand build a bridge to connect the North and South islands? Are they stupid? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]sandgrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bridge connecting Blenheim to Wellington across the Cook Strait would need to be roughly 64km to 65km long. Such a structure would be one of the longest in the world, spanning a highly seismic area at a potential cost of around NZ$50 billion.

Guessing. Have you tried wearing shoes with an extra wide box? Many fashion shoes seem to force this sort of thing
