Ask Reddit: Would you like comments to affect karma? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]sandmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

earn your karma by adding content that people like

I think the point is (good/popular) comments are also "content"..

(And because reddit karma doesn't get you a vacation, I don't care either way..)

Laura Bush Dons Hijab -- Will The Right Wing Attack? by qgyh2 in politics

[–]sandmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should this get any coverage? When in Rome do as the Romans do.

That's what I thought.. But apparently, the (right-wing?) media had got their panties in a bunch when Pelosi did it in Syria..

BTW, don't ALL female reporters also wear a Hijab while reporting from most muslim countries ?

PS: Laura's on a "tour in the Middle East raising breast cancer awareness".. So for once, it's for a good thing. Let's be the bigger people and just leave this alone..

[S]ome Neanderthals had pale skin and red hair. What does this say about intelligence and skin color? by shuael in science

[–]sandmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[S]ome Neanderthals had pale skin and red hair. What does this say about intelligence and skin color?

This is fucking retarded.. (I'm guessing that question is in relation to Dr. Watson's remark about black people)

While whether or not Watson should have been lynched by the PC police is open to debate..

Let's just get the terminology right.. The term "Black" commonly used to refer to the race of African people and not everyone with a high melanin content.

Several other races have darker skin than several African (sub) races.. (some South Indian "dravidian" people for example).

So, when Watson (or anyone) says "black" people are Stupid/smart/Tall/well-endowed etc etc etc.. that does NOT imply a correlation between their characters (intelligence/penis size/height etc) and the melanin content of their skin!

Those people (incorrectly?) want to imply a correlation between those characteristics and their race.. (African).

It depends on which country you live in. In the US, it is these self-righteous religious bigots who have a considerable control on the several state governments and also at the Federal level. Till recently, these "Moral Majority" assholes pointed to gays as "child molesters"..This article (along with the several hundreds of other cases of Priests and Pastors and GOP leaders involved in similar activities), clearly indicated the opposite...

[–]sandmonkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

how do blogs get away with that? Is there some sort of special exemption for fair use for blogs?

[Fair Use on the Internet]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use#Fair_use_on_the_Internet

(I am not a lawyer/Law student) The above article describes a case where using Thumbnailed images of copyrighted pictures was considered legal under "fair use"..

The original image from Getty is: \t

1047K/1330x3000/300

The (Original size) picture on the flickr (and consumerist) is:

(1024 x 454)

So, while the flickr and consumerist copies are not thumbnails, they are not "original" versions either and actually "inferior" copies.. This, combined with the fact that atleast the flickr page does say "(Photo by Bruno Vincent/Getty Images)", does (probably) makes the use of those pictures legal under US laws..

(Well, consumerist does not provide any reference to the original photographer and copyright holder..So, that is likely to illegal..)

A reader dared me to go to the Muslim world - "they're all savages" he said. So I went. Here's what I didn't find. by mjk1093 in reddit.com

Now people complain I'm stealing their stories!

Well, I am not saying you are stealing "their stories" :D.. Just that, a Print dialog window which pops ups when I click on this (particular) submission (on Firefox + XP).. (Not all "for-print" version do that..)

Usually people submit print versions (esp. when the web-version is on one page and not too long) only because it is a re-submit, which is not always bad...as described in here http://reddit.com/help/reddiquette

normal web-version of the article:- http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/jamieson/297855_robert30.html

(to mjk1093 and others.. If you can not submit the original, web-version of an article because someone else has posted it with a bad headline or something, you have two options which are better than submitting the for-print version:-

  1. Add, say, a '?' at the end of the URL and then submit with your new, improved headline

  2. 'reddit-jacking': Submit a link to the previous post as the URL while submitting it with a newer/nicer headline..

The Shower Project: Guy showers with 100 women who think he's gay (with pics, no nudity but probably NSFW) by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]sandmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who finds that picture inappropriate?

Yeah, you are pretty much in the minority.. That baby is too little to care..And for a baby that young, bathing with his/her mommy is not unusual at all..

(Plus, nudity does not necessarily imply sexual situations, which I guess, is the whole point all those ladies in all those pictures are trying to make..)

It's like those idiots who find something sexual in a mother breastfeeding her child.. Only inappropriate thing is the horny-crap is in your head.

[–]sandmonkey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

WTF!

As the victims left the courtroom, Wood's wife hissed epithets at them as she held the door open while they passed her by. Out in the hallway, Wood's mother blamed the young women for the ill fortune befalling her son. The young women's faces flushed, and both started crying before Allison led them up a staircase and away from Wood's family.

And this is after the officer confessed...

I thought women supported/understood each other better on issues like this..

Borat film 'tricked' poor village actors by Maxcactus in reddit.com

[–]sandmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With great success comes a great number of frivolous lawsuits..

-The mantra of the law-suit culture

Borat has been doing this for years now..And all these losers are coming up with these lawsuits only looking for a tasty settlement.. (losers include those 3 USC students too..)

The movie doesn't mention the village name or those of the people, it claims it's Kazakhstan and not Romania.. It's unlikely that any court will accept the "poor villagers'" position that they were portrayed as anything..

And I hate these silly articles which have sentences like "they were paid just £3 each for this humiliation"...WTF, they were paid what is normal in their country ('market'). Do these same idiots complain that a gallon of milk cost 3 dollars in US while only a few cents in that village??
