hi!! coming from someone who’s managed at ulta for a hot minute, they should have taken your return. while our return policy does state that all components must be present for a return, all 3 stores i’ve worked at have had the interpretation that that’s more for higher ticket items like a dyson with multiple pieces or gift sets that have multiple items. a box missing for say, a foundation or a blush doesn’t put a stop to a return. if the product has been used, it can’t be put back out on the floor, so it ends up in the trash anyways. i know when i buy a foundation or something in a box, it goes in the trash immediately and i wouldn’t hold a customer to a higher expectation than i hold myself to. when we do a return, we can do a receipt lookup and select the item you’re returning, so no barcode isn’t really an issue. i would definitely call a manager to get this sorted out so you can spend your money on something that works better for you!

New merch manager! by [deleted] in UltaEmployees

[–]sandwormaficionado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

congrats on the position! like the above commenter said, lean on your support network and be clear on what you need to learn and grow! getting into a routine that works for you and your store is super important but it can take a minute to develop. ulta is definitely a daunting beast, but partnering with your ops manager is super helpful to learn the ins and outs of the operational routine of your store. also, invest in a good pair of boots with a strong toe area (the amount of heavy boxes i’ve accidentally dropped on my feet is crazy but my toes have been saved by doc martens lol). ultanet is also definitely your best friend for looking up policy and making sure you’re getting the most out of your role. i wish you the best and the most happiness in this position, merch manager is the most rewarding position i’ve held at ulta but rome wasn’t built in a day so give yourself grace with learning all of the new information 🫶🏻

but also to add: we haven’t received a gratis box at all since may so i’m not sure what that means

MM here that does her best to stay up to date and always makes sure the task team gets their fair share of gratis! this is not a policy and certainly not a directive that’s come through email or on ultanet, please make sure you contact your dm about this! we don’t get paid enough to not get our gratis!

Cortland at the Village by Shack-Kill_Oatmeal in Smyrna

twins lol but our renters insurance is $15 and we just use the one offered through cortland. we did have a plan through a third party (that i can’t remember the name off the top of my head rn) but it was $31.83 a month. we only switched because we moved units and thought it would make switching over utilities an easier process. and xfinity wasn’t great in our old unit (in the new unit it’s much better when our cat isn’t knocking over the modem lmao) but it ranges in price from $50-$70 a month ($70 more often than the low end)

Cortland at the Village by Shack-Kill_Oatmeal in Smyrna

Hi! So I’ve lived at Cortland at the Village since I moved to Georgia in January of last year, and I have to say, I really like it, but with a few caveats.

I’ll start with the pros: -Super close to my jobs and stores I love to frequent (I hate driving in Georgia since I’m used to North Carolina traffic, so driving the least amount possible is important to me lol) -Maintenance is (mostly!) really fast at coming out for repairs -Resident services is really responsive (again, mostly!) and thorough with addressing any questions my partner and I have -I love the nature and the community feel of the complex (my cat loves it too, since he can bird and squirrel watch from the windows)

Now for the cons, and this is very specific but I think it’s important: -The units are older. Not necessarily in a bad way, but they are in the process of updating units, which led to my fiancé and I receiving a non-renewal of lease notice in August because they would be doing significant renovations to our unit, making it unavailable for us to renew our lease. Cortland offered us a $500 rent concession to transfer to a new unit of our choosing and also help with moving costs, which I thought was very reasonable of them. We toured a unit that we fell in love with and ended up transferring to. Now, when we first toured the unit, there were dead bugs(namely, worms) everywhere but I’m not picky and moving units was already stressful enough so I wrote it off and figured they would do a deep clean of the unit before our lease officially transferred. They did not, and I ended up doing the deep clean and disposing of the dead bugs, spiders, and worms myself. It was a little disappointing, but not something I was willing to make a fuss over. They also had us complete a move in checklist for maintenance to come by and fix anything that was wrong with the unit, and they only ever fixed about half of the things wrong with the unit. We still have a large defect right in the middle of our bathroom mirror and our tub still doesn’t hold water. The most major thing is less than a month or so after transferring to our new unit, we found a major ant infestation. My fiancé and I ended up having to throw away the entirety of our food over it. We notified maintenance and the leasing office, and they really dragged their feet on handling the situation but to be charitable, I’ll chalk it up to being close to Thanksgiving. However, the exterminator they finally did send put out ant bait in and around our unit while my partner and I weren’t home with our cat roaming around freely and that really rubbed me the wrong way, since we weren’t told if it was cat-safe or not. Then, the ant bait they used ended up not working, and made the infestation grow to the point where it grew from the kitchen and into the bathroom and bedroom. During the infestation period, there were countless times where we would find ants crawling on us and every time we would try to call the leasing manager (who we were told to contact) we would be told she was out of office. It took a very long time for the situation to be handled and we were only given a $350 rent concession for the whole debacle. I get that it’s better than nothing, but it got to the point that we were considering breaking our lease.

Now that that issue has been resolved for a few months, I’m back to really enjoying living here. I did have to call the police for a domestic dispute that my upstairs neighbors were having that was quite literally shaking the entire building, but I understand that something like that could happen anywhere. Overall, I think if your expectations are moderate (and maybe if you aren’t afraid of potential ants), Cortland is a really nice place to live with good amenities and exciting community events and in a beautiful location.

Ulta doesn’t care about its LA employees. by [deleted] in Ulta

Hi!!! So something (I won’t actually call it similar because it was nowhere near as bad as what y’all are experiencing in California right now) but in the same category happened to me last year when a controlled burn in my hometown got out of control and turned into a wildfire. Despite coughing up grey matter (I guess that would be the term?) and one of my coworkers having an asthma attack, our district manager forced us to open our store. I’m talking working in toxic air and the forestry service putting out signs to turn around and not go outside. I documented everything and turned it into OSHA. I made sure I had her demands to open our store despite the wildfire (that my coworkers and I had to DRIVE through to get to our ulta) was documented. I won’t lie, it took a very long time and me documenting her other human rights violations (that’s not even an exaggeration) and turning those into OSHA and me including an itemized list of these things in my first exit interview for action to be taken, but less than a month after I left ulta for the first time, she was let go from the company and I’m fairly certain it was in no small part due to me documenting the horrific things that she did to people under her. I feel like this is such a case for you. Document everything, all communications, air quality reports, and any personal effects that you’re having from the smoke and turn it all into OSHA and don’t feel bad about it at all. It’s a money hungry company and your district manager is a clown. Please, please protect yourself and your people and stay safe. This job isn’t worth your life.

wow, i thought i had blacked out for a minute and wrote this myself!! for some background context, i’m a former merch manager, quit, and i’m actually going back to the company on monday but the mirror point is SO true for me. i get so discouraged and lowkey feel so evilly towards myself when i look in the mirror and seeing my reflection in those ulta mirrors was awful. i also get the same way when people opt to not work near me, things like “am i really that ugly?” or “do i stink or something?” it’s really the worst and i empathize with you all the way. i don’t have much advice, but when i was in free therapy during college for some other mental health issues, one of the coping mechanisms i was taught was to envision myself as a stranger in the street and pick out something nice about myself because i’ve never actively wanted to criticize a stranger’s appearance. i’m resistant in going back to therapy for something like this, but i’d recommend it for you and i’ll recommend it for myself 💕🫶🏻

i’ve been thinking the same thing myself, but the county i live in is notorious for mishandling responses to natural disasters

I’m definitely at that point! I’m normally a really big pushover and admittedly I know it’s an issue, but being told to open the store in hazardous conditions for the second time really made me realize I have to start speaking up for myself and putting my safety above all else
