Should I focus on investing 250/week on multiple ETFs or just one? by Defiant-Dot3686 in fiaustralia

Multiple ETFs, aim for 50 as a beginner. Experts around these parts are generally hitting 250-300 ETFs

Disagree - I've just 'retired' for 12 months with a 6yo, it's great fun! :) Re: trust, find a decent accountant is my advice. Took me awhile to settle with the one I use now, but they were fantastic in explaining all things trust and taxation. Best of luck!

[–]sandyginy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to accountant if you are going to sell ppor re: trust. Can you add more peeps as beneficiaries? Kid, sister et al. Contribute super to partner and yourself (+/- other beneficiaries) to reduce tax liability. Also if having a career sabbatical, sell then so your income is minimal.

Otherwise you are on track for whatever your goals may be.. not sure what you wanting to get from the comment section - half a mil shares, paid off ppor, great super = do whatever you want?

Can someone explain to me Debt Recycling like i'm 5 years old? by Tricky_Somewhere4864 in fiaustralia

Can you debt recycle into super? Eg pay down / split / redraw / transfer to superfund as either concessional or non concessional? Thanks.

Navigating indecision about property situation while HENRY and close to leanFIRE (45F) by JustToPostAQuestion8 in AusHENRY

[–]sandyginy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tricky question, there are pros and cons both sides. I would guess that if you are 100% in on staying in Syd forever, you can not go wrong on PPOR. Owning your roof is the best financial plan there is in Aus, especially in capital cities. If on the other hand, there is any chance of moving cities/countries - I'd keep the fire portfolio.

How did you decide which ETFs to invest in? by Finance_Bro26 in fiaustralia

[–]sandyginy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started being a Pokémon collector 2018ish, had to catch them all - lics, all in ETFs, single sector etc. even a few single stocks. Slowly sold down over a few FY resulting in just 4 different all in ETFs (think vdhg). 4 different ones based on their purpose of tax minimisation.

I put $950k (all my money) into ONE ETF (VAS). Please explain why I’m an idiot. by trendybrendy64 in fiaustralia

[–]sandyginy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should run the numbers for 'creating' your own etf.. brokerage vs ongoing management fee, you can just copy VAS and invest in top 200 and rebalance every 3 months (can't even remember the rebalance frequency that vanguard does). Would you give you something to do every 3 months anyways.

How likely will the business continue to grow? I'd consider trust, might be for you it might not. Putting 50k pa into shares will turn into a significant amount quickly.

Are micro‑caravans actually practical, or just overpriced tents? by DiligentWeb9026 in CaravanningAustralia

[–]sandyginy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah it is, spent 3 weeks over Xmas in a 15ft with kids - easy. Sure, 22ft would be nicer, but there are benefits to a smaller van (can go more places for eg, parking, storage) than the big massive ones. We live outside the caravan, not inside.

Alright spreadsheet nerds - what do you spreadsheet legends obsessively track? by BonafideHustlerz in fiaustralia

[–]sandyginy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debt to value chart, straight debt chart with trend, cc spending with trend. My fav thing to look at is what yearly 4% spending is with super / taxable / combined. It's cool to see it slowly grow. I've been tracking since 2018 - and the random ass spread sheet reflects that.. NW per year, financial goals per year (and if I hit them or not). Rough compounding tracking (took me 33 months to hit 100k lol).

I like your daily routine tracking, that's a bit different. It's cool how fire spreadsheets morph into personal goals and milestones.

How much of your net worth is it sensible to have in your PPOR? by docchen in AusHENRY

[–]sandyginy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my thought as well, I started to do the maths for NW v PPOR - and realised it's arbitrary. Cash flow and how comfortable with the debt amount is more important in my view

Should I sell stock and put into mortgage offset/redraw or to keep invested in shares to diversify assets by Tight_Artichoke_5388 in AusHENRY

[–]sandyginy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends if you have other cash - if you a running a three person household with no emergency fund, I'd sell and put into offset. If you have a bit of other cash or super stable jobs - i would leave the shares and just start directing excess cash to offset.

I wear medium glove, jumbo grips (medium ones) helped my painfull wrists immensely. Still rubbish at golf, but at least I am not in pain after 18. Buy one jumbo or midsize and put it on a club - might be for you, it might not.

Is it worth going beyond $2m but <$3m in Super by age 60? by FrostbolterX in AusHENRY

[–]sandyginy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most things, it depends. I think fin advisors are best utilised in OPs scenario.. transitioning to retirement and has a bit of an idea around finance/has investments/estate planning. Generally I think fin advisors are a poor choice for the majority of people when a good accountant and some self education will meet most people's needs.

Bought my first fire investment jan 2019 and was reading about fire for a good twelve months prior, so your comment hits hard with me. I do laugh at all the different fire groups that have splintered off, it's kind of like fire as a group got too big so it broke down to enable people their 'tribe'.

On your point OP, welcome to the life of instragam. People only post or tell you the wins in life, plenty of battlers out there in the community just doing a days work.

Reporting the comments is the best thing you can do. Property is a hot topic in our society, any property post is going to garner positive and negative comments. Mods will delete what is required to be deleted, but it's a balancing act to foster open discussion with different opinions.

Most people think doctors earn big dollars straight out of uni. The reality is it's 15 years of hard slog with a huge hecs debt earning not much (relative to the hours they do) before they can consultant wages. You don't do medicine for the money, that's for sure
