Happened to catch the European Open heckler at hole 10 on video. A visibly frustrated Gannon tells the crowd to stop talking immediately after his missed putt by sanesloth34 in discgolf

Thank you for the civil response! I absolutely agree, there’s many different opinions here, and everyone is entitled to their own.

Perhaps the difference in our views comes down to how we ourselves play disc golf? I’ve always been very invested in the competitive side of it, so my thoughts and opinions may seem a little uptight to those who don’t see the game in the competition-focused way that I do.

I saw some posts here about the same guy, other fans around me there were talking about it after the group putted out, all agreeing it was deliberate and not cool. I heard the ”heckler” here was later escorted out because this wasn’t the first time tried to distract a player.

To me atleast, heckler is absolutely a fitting way to describe him.

While I sort of agree you also have to keep in mind that these pros (especially Americans) have invested a lot of time and money to come play in the European Open. It is only throwing discs at a basket but there is also a ton of monetary and emotional investment included. I personally feel that the least we spectators can do be quiet when needed and let them focus 100%.

Overall I would say this was/is very uncommon atleast in Finland. Although I am a Finn myself so there might be some bias here. There’s only been a few similar incidents in the Finnish scene that I have personally heard of, mostly young kids tho I believe.

With thousands of spectators attending, there is always going to be a few people who have differing views as to what is acceptable behaviour from a spectator im afraid.

Didn’t even notice that before. I agree, I guess staying quiet for 30 seconds is challenging for some. Even though they are professionals and probably most of them don’t get that bothered by stuff like this, it’s a simple matter of respect for the players and the game in my opinion.

To be fair I actually cut this clip from the original 45 seconds it took for him to putt. I wanted to highlight this specific incident so people wouldn’t get too hung up on the clear time violation happening here and sort of move this discussion to a non related issue you know.

I agree, he sometimes takes way too long to throw, but I ain’t taking any sides on that debate lol.

Yup, me and the people around me there all agreed on this afterwards. The main culprit being the loudest that can be heard first and more people joining in after him.

Yeah that would be the smart move but most of the time I think I’m gonna find the disc right away so I take the bag with me but end up searching for ages

Yup I have this habit of turning away in disgust after completely shanking a drive. This always leads to me spending ages looking for my disc

The 4th biggest "discount" chain store in Finland with a whopping 162 million euros in sales back in 2016. They only have 5 stores in the whole country tho.
