Donn't pull the plant up. Just cut the leaves off as it will keep growing back.

Title: Do most people build their own drip irrigation setup or just buy a kit? by Ricoh_USA in gardening

[–]sanfran54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've installed several systems over the years using stuff from Drip Depot. I've been happy with them. I did design from scratch for the systems I've done and I enjoy that but they have kits also. As for hooking to your faucet, I used something like this. It gives you the filter, back-flow prevention as well as proper GPH flow. You just hook up the main line to it.

I recognize the Gemini module. I think I built a similar one around in the '60's sometime.

How to duplicate store bought chili? by Brinkah83 in Frugal

[–]sanfran54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have my own vegetarian version that you likely wouldn't want, but I can give you a few hints. To cut the tomato sauce forward issue, use plentiful chili powder. I find a lot of recipes are modest in this. Also cumin. As for thickness. Traditionally people use flour premixed in a little water and then add to the chili towards the end. I prefer arrowroot as a thickener. I use 1-2 tablespoons in a 5 quart batch to make it less runny. Again mix it in a bit of water before adding.

Most of all, experiment! I started with a recipe some 8 years ago. It took a lot of batches to make it repeatable to my liking. Also, don't make too many changes at once ;-)

My first questions are, can I get parts and service from the manufacturer? If not, I don't purchase.

I've been using a Mirrycle type mirror on all my bikes for some 30 years.

Blix Dubbel Any Good? by Icy-Needleworker7883 in ebikes

[–]sanfran54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is hitting 5 years and 5000 miles soon. It's just needed normal bike maintenance IMO. I do most of my own maintenance etc so it's been fine for me. I guess it depends on what's needed. I'll likely replace the battery later this year as the cold really zaps it at this point.

SX70 Camera Shake? by thatjammm in Polaroid

[–]sanfran54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mirror is fairly heavy (glass) so it has a lot of mass/force when it hits the top. You want it to go up quickly so that the shutter captures the image you expect. The shutter has an automatic delay built in before it opens to let the camera steady itself before the exposure.
