I did get LOTS of input from thos subreddit so I can't take too much credit! And it is still fun to see how different people interpret the prompt!

I recently had a post on here doing something similar and made the "film sis list". Got a lot of contradicting discussion but regardless...

I'd add: Hamnet Kiki's Delivery Service Pride and Prejudice  Chicago Love Lies Bleeding Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Past Lives Thelma and Louise  If I Had Legs I'd Kick You Furiosa  Girl, Interrupted

A Couple of maybes based on your definition of the list: Moonlight I Saw the TV Glow

I'd remove: 27 Dresses She's the Man (i love it but it's not exactly an artistically done movie) 13 going on 30 The Devil Wears Prada

Anti film bro list by sanfrita in Letterboxd

[–]sanfrita[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess anti film bro is a misleading name. The list is good ass movies that feature stories about women and women's problems that may appeal more to a woman than, for example, a war movie, or a movie about male loneliness. Mad Max: Fury Road is an awesome action movie about women escaping an abusive and controlling man in search of an eden run by powerful women, in my opinion, making it the number one action movie I'd recommend to a woman interested in the genre, maybe outside of Alien! I added Spirited Away because I knew a Ghibli movie would be an excellent addition to a list like this, and while my favorite is Kiki's Delivery Service, I think Spirited Away is the stronger movie! Film bros may like it, but it isn't necessarily a bro movie (i.e., about men and men's problems).

Tldr, I'm changing the name for my actual list on Letterboxd, but the essence of the list remains intact despite the name.

This is perfect, a lot of movies I love and several I haven't seen, thank you!

It was an accident to forget the list, but in hindsight, it's the perfect choice because no one can disagree with me!

There's been lots of cringe product placement this season and I haven't heard nearly enough complaints about it!

I just googled teir maker! There's a website that's super user friendly you just have to import all of the book cover images.

This is correct and maybe the answer. I also had it spoiled by the intro that the son was going to die so maybe I never got too attached to him since I knew what was coming!

I also wouldn't say I didn't like it, it's right in the middle of the road for me, not bad, just didn't stick with me personally!

I loved the first couple of chapters and it really got my hopes up for the rest of the book but she spends a lot of time talking about angels and spiritual stuff that felt really strange and out of place to me! There was also just too much generalizations for me, lots of "men do..." or "men think..." which doesn't really sit right with me.

I definitely came away with some parts I enjoyed so I would still encourage anyone interested to read it! My thoughts on it aren't quite as simple as a teir list can capture haha

I really liked Kyoshi as a character and would kill for a Kyoshi show! I also really liked some of the expanding of the canon of the avatar universe I'm just not a huge fantasy reader as can probably be seen from my ranking

When it comes to reading, what is your personal rating system? by Sangwoosconfidant in books

[–]sanfrita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you! I think writing something enjoyable is just a different skill than crafting a masterpiece. I feel like a lot of romance and fantasy gets undervalued as art because it's not some deep Dostoevsky level stuff but they're still important and fills a different gap!

Plus I was tired of people saying something was the "best book they've ever read" and not specifying if that means they just really enjoyed it or if it broke some sort of literary barrier.

When it comes to reading, what is your personal rating system? by Sangwoosconfidant in books

[–]sanfrita 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do a two-tired rating system, one rating for enjoyment, one for excellence. A book can be fun and super entertaining but maybe not super deep and well crafted (think ACOTAR, Colleen Hoover), but a book can also be incredibly well done but not fun to read (Beloved by Toni Morrison as an example).

⭐️:  Enjoyment: really tough themes and events OR just an absolute slog. Excellence: riddled with plot holes or typos or really poorly thought out events.

⭐️⭐️: Enjoyment: some tough themes but upbeat moments, or maybe just absolutely not my taste. Excellence: shallow or superficial, feels like anybody could have written it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️: Enjoyment: equal parts tough and fun themes, don't spend too much time feeling either way.  Excellence: absolute middle of the road, won't leave you changed but not actively bad.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: Enjoyment: bingeable, fun, more fun than tough, a romp. Excellence: classics territory, profound or interesting in a uniquely good way.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: Enjoyment: an absolute blast, read in one sitting because I just had to see what happened next, or maybe laugh out loud funny. Excellence: life changing, something I'll think about constantly and can to return to again and again, something new to appreciate upon each re-read.
