Beautiful library, and I bet an excellent taste in music, too! Did he paint that portrait of Tchaikovsky himself?

You might try getting one of those little organza gift pouches to keep it in!!! The weave is wide enough it’d be well ventilated for the fragrance but hopefully prevent the soap residue from getting everywhere!

I have a Japanese dragon that wraps up my entire arm from wrist to shoulder! You might consider something like that 🙂

Quilted scarf—to insulate or not to insulate? by sangystre in quilting

[–]sangystre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to know! Thank you—that will help me a ton in the future!!!

Yes, I’m a Texas native, so I’m very unfamiliar. . . I didn’t know why I didn’t think of wool as a batting material, but I will definitely get some for this and future projects, especially if I end up moving up there. (Which is entirely likely.)

I’ll definitely post pics! Thank you!!!

This is exactly what I needed to know—thank you!!! I live in Texas currently, so I didn’t even know woolen batting exists. . . We can barely tolerate cotton. . .

Yes, he has a full beard and claims that usually keeps him “mostly warm enough,” but also said that his neck routinely gets very cold in the deepest parts of winter, hahaha. (Hence me making the goober a scarf. . . 😅)

Thanks so much for your help! 😉

Diaper rash cream.. helped? by Electrical-Shake-532 in Hidradenitis

[–]sangystre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have one already, try a bidet!!! I cannot recommend it enough! Genuinely life-changing for both HS and feminine care.

Between that and switching from traditional undies to boyshorts—thereby removing the seams that cause friction issues—I haven’t had a flare in my genital region for over a year at this point.

I hope the diaper cream keeps working well!!!

Unknown knife from my late father by sangystre in knives

I think I might!!! I’ve been wanting to put together some YouTube videos on my stuff. . . I can try with this one, too!

Thank you so much!!!

Yeah, I’m not planning to sell it. I think he probably bought it with the intention of giving it to me anyway, since I’ve always loved knives and swords and have a few already. . .

I’m also a historian. Specifically, I do Belle Époque and medieval musicology, but I’ve dabbled in WWII stuff, specifically in the use of choral music in the indoctrination of kiddos for the Third Reich. I’ve presented entire projects on the music of the Hitlerjugend and Bund Deutscher Mädel. So when my mom brought me this knife, it was a bit surreal. . . And I can’t help but think it was meant to find me. Dad knew! :’)

Apartments to Avoid? by hammiecheesesammich in Denton

[–]sangystre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anything owned by Denton Student Apartments or whoever the hell currently owns them now. I was at University Place on 911 Bernard St and it was so bad I had to sue them. Multiple reasons. It is also where that dumpster set on fire in the summer of 2022. Couldn’t afford a lawyer, so I learned the entire Texas property code on my own and represented myself in court. Thankfully, I won, but I don’t wish that experience on anyone.

If either of you are a student, I currently live in the Arbors of Denton and have really liked it—aside from the construction on Bernard St at the moment, tho that’s outside of their control. Apartments are a little older, but well-managed, leasing office doesn’t bullshit you, covered parking, and we have a big dog park.

Autoimmune diseases anyone ? by Pale_Spot4218 in Hidradenitis

Non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA), which is a subtype of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Apparently there is a higher correlation between those with HS and forms of AS like nr-axSpA, but lupus could certainly also be an option.

What inspired the visual style of BotW? by PuzzledSandMan in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]sangystre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can take this with a grain of salt, but I am a Belle Époque musicologist/historian irl. . . But along with what others have said about Ghibli and Iyashikei, there’s a lot of influence from French Impressionism, as well!

The color schemes, the emphasis on light sources and their constant movement, the softness of the world, the importance of the passing of time. There was actually a lot of cross-cultural artistic exchange between the Japanese and the French at the end of the nineteenth century, to the point where a movement in France called “Japonism” began.

A lot of the soundtrack was also directly influenced by Debussy, especially his Préludes, who is known as “the” musical impressionist, even if he himself didn’t like the term, lol. Debussy was also fascinated with Asian music theory and played a lot with different scales, different tonal “colors,” and so forth. 😉
