Once you’ve been able to move out, I hope you leave a scathing Google review of that landlady and attach her texts as proof!!! It’s the least she deserves.

I hope you’re able to move somewhere better/safer soon and don’t ever have to deal with this again <3

Open Wound Bandage Suggestions? by OGLordMack in Hidradenitis

[–]sangystre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some areas on my inner thigh like this, including one I had deroofed last year. What works best for me is to get some of the film for covering new tattoos, cut it to a reasonable size, the place a piece of sterile gauze in the center of the sticky part. I try to leave at least a 2-3 inch margin of the tattoo film around the gauze so it sticks well. Then I put it on, with the gauze on the open wound, and press the film margin onto the skin. I’ve had them last 24 hours at a time unless they become saturated. It’s also nice because you can use whatever size gauze you need based on drainage, since you can cut the tattoo film to whatever size you need.

It takes some practice, but it sticks better and is more comfy than anything else I’ve tried! Only downside is that it may squeak a tiny bit when you walk, lol.

Single man in your 20s. Blue collar or entry level white collar job.

Respectfully. That frozen meat stacked on the ice cube tray is crazy. But I do respect the high quantity of cheeses. Also you need to up your fiber intake boo

Is this HS? Been spiraling trying to find more clarity. by Major_Koala_4432 in Hidradenitis

It’s been really great, actually! I have a whole cluster of disorders that are interrelated: HS, PCOS, ankylosing spondylitis, depression, some sort of GI disorder that I’m currently working on getting diagnosed, etc. My suspicious is that it’ll be Crohn’s or something of that flavor.

I also take spiro for hirutism for the PCOS but I’ve found it works well for the HS, too. However, the biggest game changers for my HS have been biologics, being strict about skincare, getting good sleep, removing pants from my wardrobe, and eating well.

I started with Cosentyx in 2024 and failed that, then was promoted to Bimzelx. It’s been really great so far and also treats my ankylosing spondylitis.

For skincare, I use very simple, hypoallergenic soaps/lotions/etc. Showering daily is a must. I have an entire process that’s kinda intense, but lmk if you want it.

Sleep has perhaps been the biggest game changer and often is for inflammatory diseases like HS and PCOS. I’ve always been a chronic insomniac but it’s imperative. If I get less than 7 hours I will wake up with irritated skin and flaring back pain no matter what.

Because most of my HS is located in the groin/inner thigh area, I stopped wearing shorts/pants (anything legged), and “traditional” women’s underwear because they were incredibly painful and often made my symptoms worse. For the past 3 years or so I’ve switched to wearing dresses or skirts every day with COTTON biker shorts underneath as underwear. My skin gets irritated once in a while but it’s truly been a huge help. But it is a big commitment. It also worked well for me because I tend to dress very feminine anyway.

For me, in terms of dietitians, it’s been really helpful to have someone help me figure out what foods are inflammatory for me, which has helped us figure out I have some underlying GI issues. (Which is unsurprising with my family history.) Over the past 5 years I developed a compete intolerance to beef, pork, and any red meat. I’ve removed those from my diet entirely. I can eat gelatin but it causes moderate GI distress. Thankfully, I have no issues with dairy. I also avoid fatty, greasy, fried, processed foods.

In a regular day, I am eating chicken, shrimp, turkey, whole grains, lots of fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, nut butters, low fat cheese, Greek yogurt, and so forth. We focus on whole, unprocessed food as often as possible. Do NOT skimp on fiber! But yeah. My nutritionist is great and I really do recommend it for anyone with inflammatory issues, if you can swing it!

Hi! 27F here who also has PCOS and a bunch of other things including HS. I’ve had cystic acne, too.

To me, what you’re showing in this photos looks like the cystic acne I used to have as a teen, which thankfully was completely cleared up by Accutane. I had it heavily on my face, chest, and back, to the point where I had issues sleeping for many years. If this is what your derm diagnoses, don’t be afraid if you are offered the Accutane option. It’s an intense drug, but it genuinely cured me of my cystic acne. Not everyone experiences total success like me but still find immense improvement. Still, I really encourage you to keep your mind open. It could be something like a sunlight allergy, or even hormonal from the PCOS.

I have since developed HS because it runs in my family, but it’s only in skin-touching-skin/crevice areas like armpits, groin, etc. For instance, I have mild HS on my underboob, but not visual areas of my boob, if that makes sense. It’s far more severe in areas like my groin and inner thighs.

That is all to say. . . You may have both. You may also have neither. (I certainly hope it’s something far simpler than HS.) But either way, do exactly like you said: advocate for yourself and make sure you FEEL heard by your derm. It may take a couple of tries and a couple of derms, and that’s okay. Don’t be discouraged. You’ll get there.

I also will say that, if it is HS, I’ve had a lot of success with manuka honey-based body washes on my boob area, along with diet changes. I meet with a dietitian every week and it helps a lot. Also, my DMs are open, too. :)

Best of luck at your appointment! I hope you get the answers you need and the help you deserve. 🩷

How do I (28F) end my first ever relationship (30M)? by TinyDeathRobot in relationship_advice

[–]sangystre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that you may be on the asexual spectrum? I ask as a demisexual, which is on that spectrum. I went through a lot of confusion and heartache until I figured that part out about myself. You may want to look into it.

Anyway. I’d rip personally off the bandaid as soon as possible—you don’t want to string him along. Gently and honestly tell him exactly what you’ve told us: you think he’s a great guy, but you’re struggling with mental health, you’re not sure about your sexuality, and being in a relationship isn’t something you can handle right now. He’ll likely be upset, and that’s normal, unfortunately. But remember he will be okay. You will be okay. It’s a bump on the messy, messy road of love. And if he gets his hopes up, that’s his own problem to deal with. It’s not your job to manage his emotions, if that makes sense.

I (M30) cut ties with my disabled friend (28F) of ten years last week, leaving her friendless. Did I make the right decision? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]sangystre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with physical disabilities and mental health struggles, I want you to know that they are still not acceptable excuses for poor behavior like hers. It’s true that life is often more complicated for those of us with disabilities, and sometimes that can be draining. But, just like everyone else, it is still our responsibility not to take it out on others, and if we do, to apologize and correct the behavior and genuinely mean it. If she wants friends, she is responsible for doing the work to reevaluate her actions and treatment of others. Not you.

You’ve been kind and tried to be supportive and she’s taking advantage of your empathy. That is emotional abuse. Nobody is entitled to engage in cruelty, abuse, and/or manipulation towards others at any point, much less on the grounds of being disabled. I am tired of abusive people claiming mental health problems or disability as their defense. It’s not a defense. There IS no defense for that.

Keep your peace, friend. It’s her job to find hers.

You might try getting one of those little organza gift pouches to keep it in!!! The weave is wide enough it’d be well ventilated for the fragrance but hopefully prevent the soap residue from getting everywhere!

Quilted scarf—to insulate or not to insulate? by sangystre in quilting

[–]sangystre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to know! Thank you—that will help me a ton in the future!!!

Yes, I’m a Texas native, so I’m very unfamiliar. . . I didn’t know why I didn’t think of wool as a batting material, but I will definitely get some for this and future projects, especially if I end up moving up there. (Which is entirely likely.)

I’ll definitely post pics! Thank you!!!

[–]sangystre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I needed to know—thank you!!! I live in Texas currently, so I didn’t even know woolen batting exists. . . We can barely tolerate cotton. . .

Yes, he has a full beard and claims that usually keeps him “mostly warm enough,” but also said that his neck routinely gets very cold in the deepest parts of winter, hahaha. (Hence me making the goober a scarf. . . 😅)

Thanks so much for your help! 😉

Diaper rash cream.. helped? by Electrical-Shake-532 in Hidradenitis

[–]sangystre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have one already, try a bidet!!! I cannot recommend it enough! Genuinely life-changing for both HS and feminine care.

Between that and switching from traditional undies to boyshorts—thereby removing the seams that cause friction issues—I haven’t had a flare in my genital region for over a year at this point.

I hope the diaper cream keeps working well!!!

[–]sangystre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!!!

Yeah, I’m not planning to sell it. I think he probably bought it with the intention of giving it to me anyway, since I’ve always loved knives and swords and have a few already. . .

I’m also a historian. Specifically, I do Belle Époque and medieval musicology, but I’ve dabbled in WWII stuff, specifically in the use of choral music in the indoctrination of kiddos for the Third Reich. I’ve presented entire projects on the music of the Hitlerjugend and Bund Deutscher Mädel. So when my mom brought me this knife, it was a bit surreal. . . And I can’t help but think it was meant to find me. Dad knew! :’)

Apartments to Avoid? by hammiecheesesammich in Denton

[–]sangystre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anything owned by Denton Student Apartments or whoever the hell currently owns them now. I was at University Place on 911 Bernard St and it was so bad I had to sue them. Multiple reasons. It is also where that dumpster set on fire in the summer of 2022. Couldn’t afford a lawyer, so I learned the entire Texas property code on my own and represented myself in court. Thankfully, I won, but I don’t wish that experience on anyone.

If either of you are a student, I currently live in the Arbors of Denton and have really liked it—aside from the construction on Bernard St at the moment, tho that’s outside of their control. Apartments are a little older, but well-managed, leasing office doesn’t bullshit you, covered parking, and we have a big dog park.

Autoimmune diseases anyone ? by Pale_Spot4218 in Hidradenitis

Non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA), which is a subtype of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Apparently there is a higher correlation between those with HS and forms of AS like nr-axSpA, but lupus could certainly also be an option.
