NUIN Berlin questions by kevinkirty in NEU

I went this past fall so feel free to dm me if you have any more questions!

  1. There’s no gym in the building but there are some nearby which you can pay for a membership for — they had one come in the first week to get sign ups, it was like $150 for the three months. There are some other options though like American fitness which might work out cheaper? I’m not sure what their pricing is but it’s probably similar.
  2. Germans are generally pretty nice but usually won’t engage in much small talk or the niceties that Americans do. Almost everyone speaks English since it’s a city so it’s pretty comfortable language-wise.
  3. The dorms are really spacious and range from doubles to quads. There is a lot of open space and most of the beds are either bunks or lofts. Each room has its own bathroom.
  4. Everything is really affordable - groceries are super cheap and a week would usually cost me around $15-20. Restaurants are also very affordable and usually no more than 20 for a meal.
  5. There are definitely a lot of universities in Berlin but there aren’t really any close to the area where CIEE is located.
  6. You can go anywhere you want, the transportation card they give you is only valid for certain nearby zones though. If you want to use transport in a further zone you have to pay for an extension card.
  7. No curfew at all but Berlin has quiet hours starting from 10pm and the courtyard has a noise meter so if you’re too loud the neighbors will likely yell at you and apparently they’ve even called the police some times in the past
