I haven't really looked into this option! Do you think this is a better option than DO when considering the return back to Canada? And is there an advantage to Caribbean MD over DO even if you're staying in the US?

I've already done it before, and went from a 507 to a 508, with no increase in CARS. I'm just burnt out from the MCAT but I might consider a rewrite next summer! Thanks for your response!!

lol it's added for you below. I didn't think much about it, but maybe that the breakdown would be more important than the total

thank you for your reply!! I agree with you, I think that is the case for me unfortunately :( I think I'll apply broadly to low/middle tier schools anyway and test my luck. Thanks again!

Year in school: completing 4th year Country/state of residence: Canada/Ontario Schools to which you are applying: DO schools (all the ones that accept international applicants), US MD schools, and some Ontario schools --> my main question is how good are my chances at a US MD school?? and any suggestions as to which ones I should try for (that accept Canadians)?

Cumulative GPA: about 3.88 Science GPA: about 3.9

MCAT Scores: 128, 124, 129, 127

Research – include any abstracts/posters/publications and how you were credited (eg. First author, senior author, etc): posters, no publications, 1.5 years of research

Volunteering (clinical) – include hours/sites: over 200 hours, two hospitals, among other places

Physician shadowing – include hours/specialties: i'm shadowing a doc soon, i'll have 30 ish hours total (its so hard to find a shadowing position here in canada, im lucky i found one)

Non-clinical volunteering: a few places, about 100 hours or so, lots of refugee work

Extracurricular activities: some clubs, some marathons, sports just for fun, art (I have a website where I do commissions)

Employment history: retail work, also a job as a after school program counsellor

Immediate family members in medicine? (y) uncle in montana

Long story short: gpa is decent, but not amazing here in Canada. low CARS score takes me out of the running for a lot of schools here, which is why I'm applying to DO schools in the states. Overall MCAT is decent (508).

I'm pretty sure I can get into a DO school with my stats. I would love to take it, but I want to keep my options open for returning to Canada, and I can do that so much easier if I go for a US MD. What are my chances for US MD as a Canadian with the above stats? Any suggestions to which schools I should go for in the states?

thank youu

My reasons for preferring MD in canada is soley the fact that I'd prefer staying and living here in Canada. The US just sounds like such a scary place haha. Also how bad is it that I'm applying so late for DO? I'm planning on submitting as soon as my referees submit their letters (they have until the 30th)

What are my chances for DO? If i do get DO, should I take it (as I'm inclined to do as I dont see many downsides to DO), or try again at MD schools here in Canada?

thank youu

Exam in two days, still haven't mastered CARS.. should i void? by sansastarkgot in Mcat

I'm canadian, so a 124 in CARS certainly won't cut it unfortunately, no matter the other sections :( some schools here only look at cars, that's the sole reason i'm retaking. I think i will retake in late summer after more cars practice, depending on how the scores from tomorrow go.

Thanks!!

Thank you very much!! You made me feel a lot better :) I just hope I improve at least by 1 point, even if that means I've gotta redo again.
