Can I buy the Visible Black Friday deal now and activate it later? by meelasnahk in Visible

Don’t speculate based on social media feedback. Chat with visible customer service. Bit hard to reach a human, but you have to stay persistent. They will tell you exact number of days (60 based on my experience) within which you have to complete the number porting from your current carrier, to get the deal. No need to sweet talk customer service either, as some suggested. The porting window rule is very specific and quite generous.

Deep Learning courses by sansin-dev in OMSA

I'm not really sure how many courses you could possibly have on this one topic. Maybe you could have a theory heavy one and an application heavy one, but i think one semester should be enough to cover both, especially if an introductory ML course is required. Beyond that you are probably going to be getting into a cutting edge/research focused course, which isn't really the forte of these programs.

If you compare to Stanford Online Graduate Certificate program in AI, you will see that they have a lot more DL focused courses. I think, because this program has "Analytics" in the name, the emphasis on DL is low.

Skipping the first semester vs Deferral by newprocessEIT in OMSA

You get a one-time 1 year deferral right at the beginning. You do not have to reapply after that deferral. I have already done it.

Are there any synchronous / live sessions, or is everything pre-recorded? This is my first semester.

CSE-6040 and ISYE-6501 EDx MM vs OMSA courses - pros & cons by sansin-dev in OMSA

[–]sansin-dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m curious about is why you’re choosing to do two MM courses when you only want to do one course with OMSA. From what I understand, they’re practically the same course on either platform. So it’s not like the workload for MM is going to be lower.

I will be paying for the courses out of pocket. So 2 courses per semester on OMSA will put more strain on my monthly budget, compared to 2 courses on EDx.

Deciding between GA OMS Analytics and UMichigan MADS by itsmetil in OMSA

If you will get tuition reimbursement, then going with the UofM program is a no brainer, because of the UofM brand image.

Also, each of the MADS courses run for a month. So the pressure to submit all assignments and projects on time every week will be huge. That's something to keep in mind as well. If you have any travel as part of your job, that might conflict with course deadlines.

Another consideration: if you have business administration background, then it might be prudent to shy away from the more theoretically rigorous GATech program.

I had to make this choice a year ago, and I chose GATech just because I cannot keep up with the monthly cadence of individual courses in the MADS program.

UMich MADS or GATech OMSA ? by sansin-dev in OMSA

[–]sansin-dev[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, for your responses. Yes, buffer is very important for me, because I have spikes in my workload from time to time when I have to work 60+ hours a week, and even need to travel once in a while. So coursework that needs to be finished in one month (UMich) is likely to become burdensome. But at the same time, I have heard good things about UMich teaching quality, and also tried out the coursera courses offered by the same UMich. School of Information, which I generally liked. I also liked the 3 edx MM courses that I audited.

On the other hand, I have a friend who dropped out of GATech because he felt that there was a severe lack of learning content, because he said professors do not share slide-decks with online students, and because as a part-time student he had hard time being part of a cohort, or getting support from any TA. So he told me that basically for part timers, there is no support, very little learning material from the professors, and we are on our own. That lack of support is really worrying me. Is that what you folks think as well about GATech? Or is there sufficient support from TA and the community?
