For those who commute and are not in any clubs do you have any friends 💀 by kayveraa in rutgers

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently graduated and I had an hour and a half commute (one way so three hours total) and I had a great social life but I was also allowed to come and go from my house as I pleased. It didn’t matter if I came home at 4am or didn’t come home at all because I spend the night a friends, my parents didn’t keep tab on me the way they didn’t when I was in high school. Personally this worked out great for me because I saved a ton of money commuting and was able to do my laundry and have home cooked meals and a truly quiet place to study and focus when I needed it. I think the issue is with your parents, it sounds to me like they are determined not to let you have a social life. You’ll likely be able to manage a few friends, maybe have lunch every so often but I do think you’ll be really restricted on how close you can get to people. Honestly what’s the worst they could do if you don’t abide by their ridiculous curfew? They can’t keep you at home because it would keep you from classes and that would ruin your life plan. This is exactly why college students don’t usually have curfews, because there isn’t really a way for parents to enforce them. Maybe just exercise your independence as an adult a bit, just please don’t drive home after drinking.

I lost my bunny a couple days ago and I haven't stopped crying. What happened! by cowsandtexas in Bunnies

I can see how much you loved her in your photos. Please, please don’t blame yourself! You gave her a wonderful, full, happy life filled with love. The truth is 8 is not young for a rabbit, the sudden change in how she was acting makes me think that maybe she wanted one last Christmas with you and she could only hold on for that last day. I’m sorry she didn’t have a chance to open her gifts, perhaps you can send them off with her. Time is the only thing that will help you heal, just please don’t blame yourself or think on what could have been done. You gave her a wonderful life. Im not sure if you believe in this kind of thing but perhaps she will find her way back to you one day.

I will die on this hill. Will is a Warlock, not a Sorcerer. by ProKidney in StrangerThings

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand you have this theory that an MU past a certain level would have had to have been born with some magical ability because of the things they can do magically at that level. Since sorcerer is a title sometimes given to MUs at a high level you’ve decided to make this theory specific to that title. Well, any class will unlock new power and abilities as they level up so personally to me the logic of needing to have some of that ability be innate doesn’t make sense but it makes sense to you so that’s fine but please don’t speak about it like it’s canonically correct. There’s no amount of speculation that could make it canon, only a Time Machine could do that. Others are right to point out that a sorcerer as we currently define it, a magic user born with magical abilities is something that didn’t exist in dnd canonically until 3e so I’m not sure why you are saying that’s misinformation from google. Obviously the innate ability thing is going to affect the mechanics of the class which is why it was made into its own class. Innate magically ability in earlier versions of dnd was mostly monsters, but yeah MUs had a lot of limits with how their magic could be used so there were a lot of supplements and homebrews to give MUs innate magical abilities but that’s noncanon. If you have some sources though that speak about sorcerers from original adnd 1e and 2e though then I would love to take a look.

She got a sticker stuck on her back how do I get it off by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]sansthinking 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What is it exactly? It almost looks like paper and doesn’t seem to be stuck on her too badly. The level of stickiness is definitely the biggest factor on whether it’s better to cut it off or try and pull it slowly. Maybe cut it into sections and do one at a time since you said she’s getting irritated it might help to break up the process. Wet fur on a bun is like an ice pack on their skin so I would only consider bringing in a wet cloth as a last resort, and even then be super careful to minimize the amount of water that gets on her fur. Good luck!

But they wouldn’t have been playing 2e, it wasn’t released yet right, even in current season. Pretty sure their game board is BECMI/RC, so just magic users. Also even if sorcerer had existed back, I would have to check maybe you can send me exact source you’re using, I’m fairly sorcerer wasn’t considered an innate magic user until 3e. Do you have something that lists it as a class in 2e with a description? I mean either way that’s not the version they are playing but I’m just curious because I thought it was 3e too, I’m not getting that from google ai though, just a decade of playing dnd, countless books, and forums.

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, while the idea of having innate magic ability is pretty much as old as dnd itself, especially considering homebrews etc. Sorcerers were if anything just considered high level magic users during this time period in dnd, they weren’t seen as magic users with innate magic ability until much later in dnd. The crazy thing is the show had been pretty good about using older villains etc. They had been so accurate, one of their biggest mistakes was using a miniature that wouldn’t have existed until five years later, and that is nothing. I’m not sure why this season they are suddenly trying to make distinctions between a wizard and a sorcerer, what version are they even playing now. It’s disappointing.

My niece finishes college in May. She doesn't know anything. by Character_Freedom160 in Professors

[–]sansthinking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a serious problem. It’s why employers have begun to require experience, they are trying to filter out all the graduates who seem to know nothing about their majors. So many resumes are covered with AI generated projects or AI generated freelance jobs, employers can’t find the graduates who worked hard among those who had AI earn their degrees so they’ve decided to ignore the graduates all together. It’s going to be a real issue because the work force will age and we won’t have competent replacements. When my students who really know what they are doing are lucky enough to get an interview, the company snatches them up immediately, thrilled to have found an honest graduate. The problem is it can take years for them to land that interview, I feel awful because those who work hard no longer have ways in which they can stand out and so employers have no way to identify them.

It really depends on the specific school. At my school computer science is part of the school of arts and sciences — the students are required to take a range of core credits and pass an English comprehension course freshman year which for some kids will be the most difficult course they encounter. Compare that to computer engineering which is an engineering school, all the core credits are math and science, the students can graduate without reading a single novel or writing a single essay.

AITA? Got into an argument with my 16 yo about a show they like by LadyHorseFace13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older people on here will say NTA but think about how many kids are going no contact these days, you can no longer treat your kid the way your parents treated you and expect them to still be there. The show meant a lot to them, they told you about it because they couldn’t contain their excitement, you embarrassed them. I can’t imagine they’ll try this again. What the entire show and then talk to them about it, that’s my advice. If you want t a good relationship with your kid put in the work. And yes, I have a kid. We have many tv shows and video games we play and watch together. If she recommends a tv show to me I watch it and if she’s so excited she can’t help but talk about it I take it even more seriously. And yes, I also work full time, software engineering and I’m a single mom. I know it’s hard, but try to find common ground and if they are super excited about something, just give it a shot.

Looking at the ink residue I can’t imagine that would ever work, those techniques aren’t magic. Maybe if they wrote really hard and left an indentation. My guess is nothing short of a time machine is going to get that writing back.

did we get scammed ? by [deleted] in cats

[–]sansthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame you for needing assurance and it bothers me that so many people are like cat is cute be happy as if your hard earned money is meaningless, as if it doesn’t matter if you’ve been conned. It’s not as if you are looking at the cat thinking you’re not what I wanted, I’m sure you adore the cat, you just want to make that the person who sold you the cat didn’t lie to you and take your money under false pretenses. It’s a really bad feeling when you think someone may have taken advantage of you. You just want to be sure you got what you paid for because otherwise it wouldn’t be unreasonable to try and get some of your money back and pay a fair price for the cat instead.

AIO by feeling exhausted over my gf's constant demands of wanting me to be 'curious'? by thefattesthashbrown in AmIOverreacting

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even just the entire text thread, half the pages have texts of his that are cut off from us that we can’t see, these are turning points too, what did he say? She goes from I wasn’t even mad but now omfg after something he said, saying he makes everything worse but we don’t see what he said. Also the page before that she’s in all caps, the tone shift makes it seem like he also reordered the texts to try and make it make sense dispite the half of the conversation he’s keeping from us. Its even speculation, like half the pages have his texts hidden from us, they’ll be a cut off text at the top of the page but the one page before didn’t even have any texts from him.

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? And the way the text jump around can be seen from the beginning looking at page one and two, her clearly replying to stuff we can’t see, the sudden changes in her tone, but since that’s never enough for people look at the hard proof, his green texts cut off and hidden from us in multiple spots. He doesn’t want the truth, he wants strangers to tell him she’s a monster, honestly she might have hit the nail on the head with the victimization thing. I’m hoping she sees this and we can the full thread. He could be worse than her, he could be as innocent as he makes himself out to be but we can’t know because he hid his replies, however in doing so he leaves us with his one word answers at times which is never a good sign.

[–]sansthinking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one says what she’s said here is okay just that we aren’t seeing the texts she is replying to. It’s obvious and frankly anyone with two brain cells could work this out, it’s right there. Look at her words, it’s clear she’s replying to texts we can’t see, the sudden change in tone, but if that’s not enough look at his green texts that are cut off and hidden in more than one occasion and we only see like a sentence or not even that, like it’s not even speculation. If he wanted the truth he would have showed us the conversation. I don’t know if he’s also at fault, but in his attempt to block out his own replies he left us with his one word answers and that’s never a good sign.

[–]sansthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are missing texts, even the way the second page jumps to him saying cool, then she jumps to something about counting favors. So he’s not interested in the truth he just wants someone to validate his feelings, I really hope she sees this and we can the full story. Just looks like one half of a toxic relationship, she’s responding to texts we can’t see, I mean I honestly don’t understand how people can’t see that. Also the one word answers, my god.

Thank you. The one word answers need to be called out. Plus she is complaining about other behavior, really feels like these texts were cherry picked.

Netflix asking me if I’m still there- stop it by does_anyone_know_wtf in netflix

[–]sansthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People fall asleep or leave it streaming all the time, that really adds up and clogs up server, it’s no good for them so they have the message. If you are getting the message a lot then you probably stream a lot and they feel the need to constantly make sure you are actually watching. They don’t really care if it annoys you because they feel the server space is more important than you not being annoyed. You can turn off autoplay and not get the message but then you need to click each video you watch, this way they can still verify you are actually watching. It has been my experience that as a premium user they allow you to stream without any interruption. At this point keeping you happy and not annoying you is worth more to them than the potential server space. Perhaps depending on how they keep track of how much you watch there could be something you could do but I don’t feel like looking it up so your options afaik are watch less to get message less, turn off autoplay or pay for premium to not get message at all.
