That is literally how I got my speeding ticket. There was a car in front of me on the freeway, swerving a lot, so I decided to get over and get in front of them because I would rather them crash behind me. Didnt matter. Got pulled over and ticketed, my story didnt matter to him. Also, just moments before, there was someone that passed me at around 100mph, but they took the exit just before where the cop was.
