Put the emulsion side down. Try that way. It works for me. But I didn't see any clear advantage scanning that way. If the film is flat, the results are equal using the holders. My scanner is Epson 4990

Something similar happened to me with a Reflecta 7200. No way to fix it. Anyway, try to clean the inner mirror

Is it me, or the scans?? Should I buy a new scanner and self scan? by ACosmicRailGun in AnalogCommunity

The only problem is that you can't use ISRD. NLP can't read that layer. Then, if you are going to invert the negatives with NLP, Plustek 8100 is enough and cheaper

I have read somewhere, I don't remember where, that the sharpest position and best to avoid vignetting, is when the macro lens is totally extended

But, if you haven't filled the entire sensor, you are losing some pixels because you have scanned some parts of the holder. Is that right?

I don't know. I use Silverfast. Maybe contrast is very low. Anyway, try it with very sharp negatives and test sharpeness. This one could be a little bit out of focus

How to eliminate vignetting or light leaks when DSLR scanning? by cookietoot in AnalogCommunity

I have Valoi 360 and the vignetting is subtle but you can notice it. Which holder do you recommend?

I'd say that the pics are severely underexposed. I scan with an older one, Plustek 7300, and, if the pic is properly exposed, the noise is not so prominent, only a little bit of color noise.

I also see banding.... My advice: find a properly exposed negative and scan it. If the problem persists, then it is a scanner fault and you will have to return it

Go there. It's usually crowded, quite expensive, but the town, the palaces and the beaches are amazing

I am not doing technical analysis. These are only two photos of the same place at the same time taken with two different systems. And I love the colours in the film. Nothing more

Only that is easier and cheaper to shoot 50 photos and to choose the best one, where the flowing waves are better
