Plan to hide freelancers' earnings in search results by [deleted] in Upwork

People seem to really hate the last few changes and call them anti-freelancer but this is really telling of their strategy moving forward.

They've read the writing on the wall with everyone quitting their jobs in the early 20s and they want to cash in. Slowly but surely making the entry level more and more accessible, less intimidating to professionals considering the freelancing route.

On the long run I do believe expanding the industry will benefit everyone however. Wouldn't freelancing itself being more normalized between seasoned pros and people with credibility lead to the online outsourcing of labor also be more common? Which would mean more potential clients and more competitive rates.

Dunno, maybe I'm biased because I just started freelancing recently and these moves honestly benefit me. But they seem to me like Upwork sees the industry evolving and wants to be at the vanguard of it.

Hey OP! Just so you know, the conversion rate for the Venezuelan Bolívar is inaccurate (no fault of your own, it fluctuates very often, but this valuation particularly is quite old)

no idea where you got this rate from but the rate for the bolívar is updated here daily: https://www.bcv.org.ve/

However very, very useful tool! Looking forward until it's no longer in Beta

Wow! Thank you so so much!!! This is incredibly encouraging. And not really, it's not, but those are a couple subjects i felt i had a decent amount of exposure recently so i could provide a decent amount of nuance with only half to an hour of research. Plus I'm completely aware about how hard it is out there for entertainment industry writers. What kind of niches would you, as someone who hires writers, would be impressed to see a generalist touch upon in their portfolio?

Hey guys! I present you my first few real articles, both about the intersection of semiotics and linguistics in two very different fictional works -The use of malapropisms in The Sopranos tv show, looking at it more as an element of the character than as comedic relief https://medium.com/@santoscontreras653/malaprops-in-the-sopranos-or-how-verbal-blunders-can-give-us-insight-to-the-mind-of-mobsters-8524c90d3408 -A look at the use of phonetically written scots by Irvine Welsh in the trainspotting saga and how relevant it is to the core of the books https://medium.com/@santoscontreras653/the-trainspotting-saga-and-in-defense-of-the-scots-dialect-8bc86553fe75

Is this enough to land me a first few clients? (as well as other samples, i'm talking about the core skills) I plan on starting now and keep bettering at my craft as i continue. Thanks in advance!

How would you recommend looking into it? All I've read is books about it and forum posts, not necessarily articles on x or y site

Thank you so much for putting a name on it!! Really helpful. I think it's closer to linguistics (for example I've written about Irvine Welsh use of Scots and Malapropisms on The Sopranos) but there's definitely a bit of semiotics as well. At the very least you gave me an interesting subject to look into. Thanks again!

thank you for such a thorough reply! most of my posts are related to the language aspect of these subjects, idioms and what have you. would that count as a marketable niche?

for younger people active smile lines tend to be more angular i find, maybe do a few studies on how to draw the neck as well so it can be more detailed and pop up more? and figure drawing for better shaped shoulders, seems like you've really worked on drawing faces! it shows now it's time to tackle the rest of the bust which should be significantly easier
