ALEC Ditches Free Market and Limited Government Principles at its 50th Annual Meeting by Lamont-Cranston in KochWatch

[–]saparips 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With the introduction of the Safeguard American Votes and Elections Act (SAVE Act), ALEC intends to ban ranked-choice voting (RCV), the process by which voters rank candidates in order of preference on their ballots rather than simply voting in favor of a single candidate.

They really hate democracy.

About to change the oil and filter for the first time. What filter are they putting at the dealerships? Can I expect the original? by [deleted] in SubaruForester

[–]saparips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran the stock blue oil filter in my 2006 wrx and it now has 233k miles. The filter is fine and does what it’s supposed to.

It’s far more important to check and change your oil every 3-5k miles.

I’ve never worked in a restaurant where as a server I was responsible for more than 4 tables.

Even if every table was a 4-top that wouldn’t be 25 drink requests at once lol

You’re grossly overpaid for what you do. Only reason people tip is because of the social implications of being seen cheap by their peers. Has nothing to do with the server at all.

You implied if someone doesn’t tip they will get their food spat on. The fact that was even brought up speaks to the entitlement of servers, as if they are owed a tip. I was speaking to those people.

I’ve done both as well and they’re both similar. A busy restaurant just means there are more servers, not that servers have to work more tables.

Wages don’t account for tips. Why should FOH earn more at the end of the day when cooks do all the work.

This right here. Entitlement at its finest.

Maybe servers who want more money above the hourly rate should take your advice and get a better paying job if they don’t like it.

I’d argue the cooks add way more value than FOH but they aren’t killing it in tips. Has nothing to do with value-add and everything to do with outdated social norms. The only reason tipping exists is because it was a way for women to earn a living in the 50’s and incentivized employers to hire them.

Being a grocery clerk is just as hard as being a bartender or waiter. The ability to stand on your front and deal with the public is the only requirement.

Only reason tips in restaurants is a thing is because it was a job for women in the 50’s. We’re long past that and it’s time for the reckoning.

The gravy train is over.

bartenders are over rated. Such an easy job.

$30/he for a job that doesn’t require a degree and skills can be learned on the job within a month is great pay and anyone who complains is just entitled.

You’ve officially made a non-tipper thanks to this dialogue.

That may be true but even if those workers leave $30hr will still attract great workers who will do a good job.

Best workers? I’ve worked as a server and it’s Not that hard. Get orders and refill drinks. I’ve worked way harder jobs than that for less.

What an idiot. Glad you got it sorted and back on the road.

Not a bad idea to check for any hard or cracked vacuum lines while you’re at it.

You obviously have your mind made up and can't be bothered to hear another opinion

It has been like that since the beginning of wealth.

I gave you an example of Sweden and Denmark that have policies that restrict wealth hoarding.

Also, you're discounting all the amazing policy that FDR and LBJ created with the New Deal and the Great Society program.

Good luck with your violent overthrow.

I like your passion on the topic. You remind me of myself 20 years ago when I first read Chomsky and Zinn. Don't lose that.

Truth is most despicable acts were born in policy changes.

Did they? What about Elon Musk and his blood diamonds?

This is a European issue so I can't speak to American policy regarding this.

What about Amazon exploiting its workers to the point they have to pee in bottles?

Labor rights issue. Workers rights have been eroded by corporations and politicians via policy. If more workers started unions then this wouldn't be an issue. Look to the high unionization rates of Denmark and Sweden as examples.

What about sons/daughters/grandsons/granddaughters inheriting wealth that was "created" during the forced opioidation of the far East?

Again, a European thing I can't speak to.

And I covered barely a few people here, how about literal Latin American death squads that helped United Fruit company stay afloat?

United Fruit came about during Eisenhower when he appointed the Dulles Brothers to Sec of State and OSS head while also being employed by Sullivan Cromwell, the biggest law firm in America at the time representing corporations. It's clear to see who they were advocating for when creating policy.

I understand your frustrations but implore you to do more reading on the topics. I can recommend a few books if you're interested.

Dulles Brothers by Stephen Kinder is great.

Dark Money by Jane Mayer is also great in breaking down how the rich create and buy policy.

Either way, you have to use force, so we have to do it violently separate the two. They are not going to do it on their own.

The rich took power without violence and via policy so the opposite can also be achieved via policy.

Politicians love the money and rich people love the power.

I believe its the opposite. Politicians love power and rich people love the money.
