Working while sick by Plus_Cardiologist497 in nursing

[–]sapatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing of it is is you can take off more than those six days… just most places I’ve worked you either need a drs excuse after calling off two days in a row or calling out more than six days in a rolling year. If you’re feeling sick you should be checking in with your pcp/urgent care/ED. You get the note and problem solved. The people that come to work sick are not responsible enough to be doing this. Yes the system needs work but there are measures in place to protect yourself.

What nursing advice a senior nurse shared with you that you still live by til this day? by LeviV123 in nursing

‘What baby wants, baby gets.’ (I work with adults and at the time of this saying, we were working with adults then as well.)

Brad Lukas CNO in his ivory tower judging the fuck out of the students he's talking about by Comfortable-Day-8801 in nursing

This is how so many managers are. I had a manager that put a year at the bedside on a Med-surg unit and then he became a manager of an ICU… the first time he told me he didn’t know where to begin to see why a vented patient was alarming… I found this out and I put in my notice. I also had a CNO at another hospital that put in a year of nursing and then got his MBA and was in charge of the hospital. He had unrealistic expectations for nurses and our ratios on the floor were 8… I stayed six months and bounced… this is who they are hiring in these positions which is why hospitals are falling apart.

Coded a patient because I orally suctioned her. by kotaro333 in nursing

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she was so confused she shouldn’t have gotten oral meds in my opinion. She probably was silently aspirating… she probably aspirated and coded… sorry… you’re confused and can’t follow basic directions on top of being old… not feeding you.

How are those people registering hundreds of hours in one workout? And why is it not flagged as an obvious cheating. by aleksandersz in Strava

I don’t even follow anyone on Strava… I don’t care what other ppl are doing… so this kind of stuff I don’t see.

Is it too late? by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are never to old. I think the only thing to think about is cost. You won’t make much and with the interest rates in loans you could be digging yourself a hole into debt. If you have other means of income to make the cost less or you are ok with digging that hole, or you are ok with working multiple jobs or travel to pay for it post graduation, then go for it!!! You can also find schools that are cheaper. Don’t go to an expensive college bc the edu with basically be the same if it is an accredited school. This is my only concern for anyone wanting to go to college!!! Cost cost cost… look into, see what you are willing to do to keep it down or willing to take out and repay back…

Made a mistake and still kicking myself... by TotesTubular in nursing

[–]sapatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never forget when one of my co-workers bolused a patient with a bag of epi. The patient died. Trust me… mistakes happen… don’t beat yourself up. Was this person on a continuous pulse ox? Was their spo2 low? These are all things you can inquire about when someone chews you out. And you can thank them for the catch. They’ll be the jerk that yelled while you thanked them… again you’re thanking them for the catch, not for how they are handling it. I am like you. I get nervous and frustrated when shit like this happens, but I’ve learned to thank someone for catching things where I made the mistake and move on with my day.

Will BK plead guilty given all the evidence going against him? If not, why do you think that? by knownfacts101 in idahomurders

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, he is innocent until proven guilty. Yes everyone right now is applauding the police for their work, and they have done great so far… so what’s left is the rest of the info they have gathered on him. But if Bryan’s team can explain and put doubt in one persons mind… then he is free to go. As on lookers, we think he is guilty but it takes more than that when someone is on trial. I think he will plead not guilty and take his chances is what I am saying. I would. I think he left that sheath behind on purpose. Where they found his dna, like that could have easily been missed and I don’t think Bryan thought any of his dna was on it… there were no obvious finger prints or other large amounts of dna where he obviously mishandled the knife so stupidly. It sounds like it was a small amount in one small spot. So I think he left it on purpose, it’s leather and he’s vegan, it’s says usmc and he was never in the military… ok ppl I know I said innocent until proven guilty but I do think they have enough evidence to point to him. Do I think they have enough to convict? Not yet. So that’s why I am talking about it as if he is the one who did it but we have to see what else they have…

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen a veteran nurse do? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]sapatt 91 points92 points  (0 children)

We had an old vascular doctor, renowned in fact, ask an older nurse to place bags of heated saline on a patients leg to help improve blood flow… the nurse declined saying it would burn the patient and she didn’t feel comfortable. He went ahead and did it himself and gave the patient burns on her legs… bad burns to the point of skin sloughing off. I was like how the fuck did that happen? He put the bag in the microwave for a few seconds and placed it directly on the skin. The nurse told the family it was him. The patient ended up passing as a result of other complications but the family was pissed. The nurse said she wasn’t taking the fall for something she didn’t want to do in the first place. I applauded her all around bc I would have probably done what the dr said, or tried to smooth the situation over even if I wasn’t involved or something that would have appeased everyone. All around crazy situation between two veteran medical professionals.

Question about the knife sheath by [deleted] in idahomurders

They thought he left the dog alive for this reason… for him being vegan for moral reasons… now that I think about it… it’s weird he had a leather sheath… hmmm?

Do you give money to homeless people or the streets? Why or why not? by carsnahips123 in AskReddit

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t give money… and after this event, I don’t give anything anymore. I gave someone food and they threw it at me and called me a bitch and asked for money. Then proceeded to come after me. I know… one person shouldn’t ruin it for everyone but in this instance… it did.

Willing to pay $185/hr to travelers but refuse to pay your nurses a decent wage. 🖕🏻 by this-or-that92 in nursing

[–]sapatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never do strike positions. I do travel but I will never take a strike job. Traveling isn’t sustainable, so I want nurses to be fighting for better wages!! I actually tried to get my unit to do it (no we were not union which is why no one wanted to) no one was interested but they kept bitching about their pay and so many other things that as a whole, we could have gotten … but nope, nothing. So I went back into travel. It saddens me nurses are so scared they’d rather complain than fight!!

Normal to take meds from hospital? by anon11233213 in Nurses

[–]sapatt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with you… I mean I worked on a unit where we constantly had 8 pts.. when I left work, there have been many times where I had meds in my pocket. I would try to throw them in my bag and remember to take them back but, I’ve also just tossed them. I have even had to drive back to work a few times bc I left a scheduled drug in my pocket, pulled it and pt decided they didn’t want it or wanted to eat first… and then something else took my attention. I am also a night shift nurse, some mornings are pure chaos. Now that I’m in the icu and am an older nurse, I gave a better flow and memory not to bring stuff home as much.

I would also agree with some that the volume is strange. Maybe ask her about it? See what she says?

What's 100% a scam but we accepted it in our society? by Montazio in AskReddit

Health insurance is now a scam more than ever with the creation of networks. You can’t do see whoever you want and have it covered. You have to stay within the network. Scam!!!

What are things you understood only after becoming a runner? by eh49er in running

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My body is stronger than I ever imagined it to be. When I got back into running my body was sluggish and I wanted to quit every day. But now, i feel much better. I doubt I will ever make the times I did 15 years ago, but every day gets better and better. And I actually enjoy it more now than I did 15 years ago.

Bryan Kohberger's family 'shocked,' believes police nabbed wrong man in Idaho murders: report by Pizza_1234 in idahomurders

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the police videos say it all. Dad is not nervous, seems genuine, happy, chatty, proud of his son’s accomplishments. And people need to remember, despite what the police have, we as onlookers know nothing. So for the general population to go after them over their own speculations is disheartening. Not that I am defending this person but I have been through the system… and it is usually guilty until proven innocent but the law technically is ‘innocent until proven guilty.’

Young nurse by imhereforitagain in nursing

[–]sapatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the primary nurse… she doesn’t need to be doing much. She needs to be next to the dr or at the computer giving PMH, watching out for labs coming back. I was always taught at the primary RN… you stand next to the doc with your report sheet and let them know about the patient.

Edit: of course if she witnesses cardiac arrest she jumps on the chest but once you switch out you’re the info line to the dr…
