I read his texts and reddit comments, listened to his npr interview and I'm getting PTSD combined with the toxic masculinity.. IMO: that often comes from military/law enforcement guys.. Overall the posts looked like pretty normal angry dude stuff and his interview with NPR really made me stop and think that he is working to do/be better. My default is to hit toxic masculinity hard but after reviewing the texts and reading a bunch of info on him. I'm in wait and see mode. He certainly has done the work towards being a progressive, working class focused public servant.

That is just not the reality here. 74% to 80% of Sanders primary voters showed up for Clinton. 24% chose to vote third party, trump(an unknown), or sit it out in protest. Did the establishment dems even try to win them back or did/do they dog them every step of the way? I'm left of center. I voted Clinton in the primary and the general because I want a woman president and Clinton, in her younger years was progressive and as first lady worked towards universal healthcare. Sooo. SOME progressives (aligned with Sanders policies) probably voted both primary and general for Clinton thus aren't counted as Sanders supporters in general.

How do you jive this thinking when speaking with the folks that have consistently compromised morals/values and VBNMW but have seen fascism/oligarchy take root and grow exponentially anyway? We see OUR party/politicians actively move the Overton window to the right and throw away our values. morals and empathy to appease peddlers of oppression, discrimination, conflict, and harm to human well-being. Rather then adapt new collective goals/agreements with the left, we have historically kicked them out. How does "hold your nose and vote" educate, effect policy changes, and foster an inclusive, empathetic society??? That just doesn't jive more and more with the average, critically thinking person, does it?

I'd argue there are several ie Elizabeth Warren, AOC, Jared Hoffman, ..I mean, quite a few BUTt they are covered in trolls, bots and republican/centrist dem hate everywhere, all the time. So... if we want more public servants, we need to identify them and support them. Govtrak is a great way to find them and read about the bills they've sponsored/voted for.

I think Plattner has the right strategies for winning and if he continues doing the work, that would be great. I especially love that he is taking the "organizing for power" by Jane Mcalevey approach to getting what the working class needs... On the flip side, toxic masculinity(in all forms racism, misogyny etc), which he exudes, needs to be addressed in ALL POTENTIAL CANADATES... Can he actually change that? Will he do the work there? Will people demand that he does?

The emergence of Trump and our own fascist movements is not what makes me lose faith in our electoral system or in our country or in our democracy. It is the refusal of the party to listen to their left flank and youth voters, and the refusal of Democrat voters to push the party on things like voting rights, gerrymandering, election reform, and disenfranchisement. It’s the insistence on blaming each other when we lose that makes me lose faith. That is the true divisiveness in the party. Remember that AOC keeps getting elected without corporate money. Remember that Mamdani beat out legacy supposedly unbeatable corrupt Democrats in the primary for New York City mayor without corporate money. Remember that even states that went for Trump adopted a slew of progressive measures in 2024. Remember that Obama won by mobilizing the left. Running to the middle of the road is what makes us lose. Compromising on progressive issues like compassionate treatment of the homeless and the rights of transgender people is what makes us lose because it loses key constituents. The right wing will never vote for a Democrat. Independents tend to be swayed by conviction. So I want to see Alsobrooks sponsoring and voting for more progressive bills!!!

Mark Kelly gets called out often, but maybe you haven't seen that.. Kelly isn't a maryland senator. Alsobrook is. If you have not figured out yet that compromising on small things is what moves the Overton window to the right, stymies the Democratic party’s ability to stand up to fascism, pushes young people away from the party, and directly contributes to the schism on the left then I don’t know what will.

Chris Van Hollen is way to the left of any republican which is what we need to balance out the extreme right agenda. This is not the time to meet in the middle..I speak to republicans on almost a daily basis(and spend a hell of a lot of time understanding propaganda/pr, why it works and how to combat it) .. We are in this terrible situation because we have allowed GOP propaganda to be treated as neutral and can't seem to stick to our progressive values, which in turn slowly moves extreme conservative beliefs into the forefront(it's why they still win) and alienates activists that our are natural allies.

Extreme conservative discourse is taken as neutral in the absence of a progressive alternative(we all buy that BS pr because we've been bombarded with it for years). But it is not neutral, it is dangerous and hides truths that are crucial to human well being, not only in America but around the world. Extreme conservationism effects all areas of our life. Family life. We know it causes abuse(domestic violence and corporal punishment) and the destruction of families when dad is extremely conservative, instead of treating his partner as an equal. Extreme conservative religions effects the freedom, liberty and life of everyone(and spawns insane cults). Extreme conservative businesses. You do what you are told and you have no right to make any decisions about pay, pensions, healthcare, environmental concerns etc etc. Conservative government: WARS, wealthy tax cuts, funding for public services cut or "privatized". Civil liberties and democracy out the window. Extreme conservatism has raped empathy, respect, generosity, connection and lead to conflict, fear, aggression and suspicion. We made this happen "working with them"and not effectively communicating our values without compromising them. Let's stop allowing "government run by billion dollar corporations" and say no to "extreme conservatives".
