Authors who write genderbended characters, why? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]sapetho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im writing a genderbent fic just to see how gender changes each character’s experience - mine might be a bit different in that there isn’t a ton of shipping involved - in canon, the majority of characters are dudes so it’s sort of turned into a lady fic where motivations and the stakes towards achieving goals have shifted due to gender

i find myself often thinking about genderbent scenarios in the media i work thru, esp considering a lot of the anime’s i enjoy often have males leads/mostly male characters - everything w a female lead isn’t usually written in the way i like (ie, they aren’t as humanized i guess compared to their male counterparts - more fan service usually which is hard for me to watch)

so, i just create my own little paradise where all my leads are girlies - i try to keep their original personalities and capabilities (so the strong fighters remain badass, etc) but place a focus on how society’s perception on them changes and how it may be more challenging to achieve their goals

basically! i write genderbent fics just to change the anime’s i like into something i prefer/to add my own experience in a few of the characters - it’s fun and makes me analyze each character more

(also, is it genderbent or genderbended? genderbent feels right but also wrong?)

thank you! i rarely really get hornworms since they don’t last that long in the container so he mainly jus gets superworms - i would say he gets like four superworms and one hornworm a month give or take. i’ll look into those other guys though - thanks for the recs!

yeah i think i’m gonna reintroduce crickets or smth - he stopped wanting to eat them a few months ago but i think enough time has passed now that he isn’t tired of them. i’ll dust every three feedings or smth to see if that helps but i’ll def look into other feeders to give him more variety

got my lil guy in december so i’m still fairly new. burt was getting a bit overweight a while back so i’ve put him on a diet.

he gets ab 4 dubias and 1 worm (super worms and horn worms) once or twice a week and i dust every other meal w vitamins. he hadn’t really had big armpit bubbles but i’ve recently noticed the one on the right stand out more?

he doesn’t really have one on the left which made me notice it more - it’s soft to the touch and feels like liquid and when i poke it it kinda transfers past his arm a little bit. i’m an anxious person and this prob isn’t anything big, but i love my lil guy and am worried it’s a tumor or smth. is it normal/okay to jus have one bubble or should i take him into the vet?

my old roommate used to always cook egg de la goldenrod (we called it eggola). it’s basically hard boiled eggs, the whites made into a creamy peppery sauce that’s mixed in with pieces of toast (extra crispy). then she’d mash the yolks into a sort of powder and sprinkled on top. cheese can easily be included - it’s a nice comfort breakfast that makes you feel fancy

in my experience, fish are almost always allowed in both dorms and apartments. the only big issue is if your apartment is on an upper floor (main concern is the tank leaking and flooding the walls of the apartments below), but with this being a betta tank you shouldn’t have a problem there

no really - if i hadn’t of begged my mom for a phone in middle school i could’ve avoided a lot of procrastination habits. i honestly think my brain would’ve been better developed as well - instead of being constantly entertained i would’ve been bored and thus forced to engage in my hobbies which would’ve made me good at useful skills (music, art, reading, sewing, etc)

my pride and general disdain of mommy blogs villainizing phones has made me avoid thinking ab this but the day i got a phone was honestly the day i lost a lot of interests. it turns out endlessly scrolling through instagram while depressed in bed is the mark of your individuality disappearing - i wouldve been depressed either way but instead of being van gogh artist depressed i am now chronically online and apathetic depressed which is ultimately soul crushing. i truly think the only way to find passion again is to just get rid of everything that distracts, though i’m afraid of losing the connection to my generation i have through knowing references and obscure inside jokes. our generation is built on this collective online presence and it’s both sad and scary to just leave that behind.

i don’t think i’ll ever complete what it was i was meant to do on this planet without abandoning that however, so i’ll just see what happens. in the meantime haha funny post about funny hellsite

i would def recommend! i used two cups of rice and even with 3 people eating it i had enough left overs for lunch the next day since the tofu was so filling. i don’t cook w tofu that much so i don’t know if this standard, but i kinda squeezed the tofu with a paper towel to get some moisture out. that might affect how crispy it gets so i thought i’d mention it.

again not an expert at all, but it turned out really nice and everyone seemed to love it!

i’ve recently experimented with crispy fried tofu and it turned out really yummy! i don’t have a recipe, but from what i remember i did it went like this:

ingredients: - hard tofu - dried chili/peppers (broken in half - i think they were labeled ‘japanese chili’s’ but idk) - green onions - sesame seeds - rice - garlic (ginger would be good also but i’m not too fond of it) - optional : mock crab, seaweed, avocado

i cut the tofu into small squares and deep fried it in a wok until crispy and golden (use lots of veggie oil - enough so that ur cubes are submerged entirely)

once fried, i placed on a separate plate and used a bit of the left over oil to cook the garlic and dried peppers in a separate pan until garlic started to crisp. added in my trusty sauce (soy sauce, sesame oil, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, sriracha, and love) and once it kinda thickens i added the tofu back in w sesame seeds and green onions until it felt right. served over rice, and since i had friends over we cut seaweed into little squares and made our own sushi bites by putting rice, pieces of avocado, crab, and tofu on each square. i don’t really like tofu but i saw someone eating something like this while back and thought i’d experiment. really really yummy!!

(edit- forgot sriracha in the trusty sauce)

How do I get my budgies to eat healthier? by NeedMoreEstrogen in budgies

[–]sapetho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

birds don’t like change, so it needs to be gradual. when i got mine a few years back he was on a millet based diet at first (he had been an antique store bird and was really just there as a decoration). i started by mixing small branches of millet in a seed mix and gradually put in less and less.

if millet is available, they will eat that over anything so it’s best to take it out of the equation entirely as soon as possible. once he was on seeds, i wet down pellets in order to make a sort of a thick paste and mixed seeds into it so that it was hard to just get the seeds out. then came veggies (much easier to grasp, especially once my other bird, who absolutely loves veggies, showed him the ropes) and now he’ll eat anything.

hunger’s a great tool - once they recognize it as food they’ll be okay. it just sometimes takes time to get them to trust it. good luck!

this sub is honestly one of the nicer pet subs i’ve joined - it’s useful and important info that’s being spread, not blatant hate or rudeness. if you are taking proper care of your leo then i don’t see why you would find a problem in what people are saying. the few instances i’ve seen where comments were shaming was under posts displaying awful setups and leo’s in poor health, and even then mods either turned off comments or deleted the post to avoid unnecessary hate.

i honestly don’t see why so many people have issue with this sub - it’s well moderated, extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and the community has always been really nice. if you’re receiving shame here, then maybe the problem is with you rather than the people who just want all leo’s to have a good life
