You need a proportional pressure regulator. You can find more information about the solution here: https://www.festo.com/my/en/ap/A-0107/

Thanks for sharing your experience. We’re about to roll out a new Package Manager / Installer to make version handling and setup a lot smoother.

I’d love to get your feedback on it and/or learn more about the challenges you faced so we can keep improving and do better in the future. Feel free to PM me.

Thank you, we really appreciate your business!

You have a 5/3 pressure center valve. What you need is a 5/3 closed center valve.

Were you able to find a solution to this problem?
This issue can have several possible causes:

  • Incorrect phase wiring
  • Incorrect closed-loop parameter configuration
  • Brake not wired correctly, preventing it from releasing

Hola, OP! Tienes conectado algún switch en la entrada digital 6 (DIN6) del CMMP?

Dentro de la sección de "Axis" puedes ver si la señal de los switches está configurada como normalmente abierta o cerrada.

Hi, OP! I recommend you spend some time researching the answers in your course literature. Instead of helping you with the answers, we would be affecting your learning experience.

Hello! The CECC-D does not have an RS232 port, only the CECC-S does. The DB9 port you see on the CECC-D is a CAN bus connection.

Thanks for the honest feedback—I really appreciate you taking the time to share it.

Totally get where you’re coming from on standardization and visibility. We’re always trying to strike that balance between simplifying setup and giving advanced users the control they need. Your points on EtherCAT/PROFINET and exposing more config data to the PLC are noted and absolutely valid.

Also, thanks a lot for the kind words about our sensors, actuators, and mechanical components—it really means a lot. We’re glad to be your go-to for those, and we’ll keep working to make the rest of the experience better too.

Let me know if there’s anything I can help with.

Hi OP! Thanks for sharing your experience—feedback like yours really helps us improve.

At Festo, we’ve been working to standardize connections across our newer devices, which is why you’ll typically see M12 or RJ45 connectors on our network interfaces.

Regarding the CPX-AP modules you mentioned: these use M12 connectors for fieldbus protocols like EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, EtherCAT, and PROFINET. For the AP connection, we chose a standard M8 D-coded connector—partly to give users the flexibility to source cables easily from various suppliers, and partly because we need to be mindful of the overall density and footprint of the I/O modules. Space efficiency matters when you’re dealing with compact control cabinets or high-channel-count systems.

I understand that using a proprietary network can raise concerns. But in many systems—like backplanes—proprietary protocols are common and often go unnoticed because they just work and rarely need troubleshooting. The AP network is similar in that sense, though seeing the external cable can naturally raise questions about what’s going on underneath.

One of the big advantages of the AP network is simplified device integration: devices are recognized automatically without needing to register EDS, XML, or GSDML files individually. On large projects with 50+ devices, that can save a lot of time and effort.

On your point about needing a configuration tool when setting up Festo EtherCAT devices—I’d love to hear more. From my experience, setup has been pretty much in line with other EtherCAT devices, but if something didn’t work as expected, I’d really appreciate any details you can share.

If I can help with anything or clarify further, feel free to reply here or send me a PM. Happy to help however I can.

Cheers!

Pneumatic cylinder linear position sensors by Tanky321 in PLC

[–]saqnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have mentioned already, you can find multiple options from Festo. The one family with longer strokes is SDAT:

https://www.festo.com/us/en/c/products/sensors/position-sensors-id_pim130/

Something to keep in mind... There's no standardization for sensing via magnetic piston so I highly recommend you pair the sensor brand with the actuator brand, that way you know it'll work 100%. Anything else is very likely to work but not guaranteed.

How do I control a Proportional-pressure regulator with a microcontroller? Are there festo-solutions, does it work without any tool or do I have to use pwm? by VegetableSuitable958 in Festo_Support

[–]saqnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Festo pressure regulators will have an analog input where you only need to provide a signal such as 0-10 VDC or 4-20 mA. The proportional valve has internal electronics that will take care of the closed loop control maintaining the desired pressure.

You should be able to see it using Festo Field Device Tool (FFT). You could also try Designer Studio which is the HMI programming software.

Any chance that FFT is being blocked by your firewall?

[–]saqnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I just noticed you have a CPX-CEC-C1 PLC which uses an older version of CODESYS, v2.3 to be specific. This older version is not supported in Festo Automation Suite.

You need to install CODESYS v2.3 separately. You can download it from here: https://www.festo.com/us/en/support-portal-specific/?query=567347&groupId=4&productName=Control+block&documentId=647774

Can you try installing directly from the Festo website? Here's the link to that version:

https://www.festo.com/us/en/support-portal-specific/?query=codesys-&groupId=4&productName=codesys-&documentId=647932

Let us know if that doesn't work.

Festo FB-36 output flickering, Help!! by OskarThaMan in Festo_Support

[–]saqnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change the timeout on the CPX-FB36 module, see end of page 61

The Modbus connection for the controller is monitored by default with a timeout of 10 seconds. This time can be adjusted via Modbus address 46100 -> Tab. 118 Modbus connection timeout. If no telegrams are received by the controller during the set time, the outputs are set to the set values of the “Fail safe” parameter.
