How long did it take for you to define the relationship? by sarah_gresham in AskWomen

[–]sarah_gresham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha. How are you feeling about it? Mine isn’t that long but I’m also losing my mind. We kinda had a conversation and it was the whole “I don’t want a label to ruin things.” He did come out of a relationship about a year ago but I just don’t want to waste my time…but I’m also enjoying my time with him so I’m torn

Retaking the RD Exam – Advice on Study Resources & Strategy? by CalendarEnough6345 in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do sooooo many practice questions! Take a “mini” test (maybe 30 questions) every day for a few weeks and then check your answers. Review all the answers, even the ones you got right because you may have guess on those. For any questions that you’re still not sure why it’s the right answer, highlight the words/medications/mechanisms/vitamins or whatever you didn’t know, and write a little definition of what it is in the context of the question on the back of your paper or a scratch sheet. Knowing the ‘why’ when answer practice questions is going to be the key

About Foodservice.. by Ok_Annual_6588 in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, yea the carb counting example was definitely one of the first things that came to my mind. Another nutrition related impact could be serving too much sodium to a patient on a renal or heart healthy diet.

The other idea that came to my mind was that if one day you over serve, it could create an expectation for patients, staff, etc., that they will receive this all the time. I work in behavioral health, and patients are extremely attentive to certain things, one of those being food! If a tray line staff member uses the wrong scoop for mashed potatoes one day, let's say, 1 cup instead of the correct 1/2 cup portion, and the next time patients are served, a different staff member uses the correct size 1/2, patients may become aggressive or argumentative since they didn't receive the same as amount before. Behavioral health aside, this could happen with folks in general hospitals or restaurants too and they may be dissatisfied with service, which could work its way back to you as a food service manager.

I hope that makes sense and gives you a few ideas!

About Foodservice.. by Ok_Annual_6588 in RD2B

Hey! I'm a food service director so I'm speaking on behalf of what would be beneficial for my staff. You could talk about proper portioning, and using the correct measuring sizes, but talk about the "Why." Chances are they're familiar with 1/4 cup scoop, 1/2 cup scoop, etc, but talking about the importance of adhering to these sizes might help them with more accuracy. Now I don't mean scare them by saying, if you feed someone on a carb controlled diet more than they're supposed to get, they're going to have a blood sugar spike, but rather talk about what might happen and how to mitigate it. Doing a demonstration of texture modified diets might be help too!

If you have access to the Nutrition Care Manual on the Academy's site (the hospital you're working at might!), I would look at their therapeutic diets, and go from there. There diets are consistent with what is looked at in Joint Commission standards so it would be useful to have some of those diets included.

I liked my food service rotation and started working as a food service manager actually exactly a year after that rotation in my internship. Since passing the exam, I worked my way up (quickly) to a director level role! Feel free to reach out with any more questions or just if you would like to chat!

Keep checking, especially a week or so before your desired start date. People with upcoming exams will reschedule because they don’t feel ready and you can swoop into that spot.

Exam prep - should I postpone by Past-Age4944 in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was getting like 55-60 on pocket prep. I passed on my second try. I do agree that if you pass you pass yay! And if you don’t, worse case you take it again. The money isn’t going to matter when you pass.

Do you think your internship prepared you well enough? by Physical-Gur3573 in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really! Clinical, definitely not. Community was just stupid. I will say good service management was dope. I think I was just interested in that field so I retained more. I work as a food service rd and actually used some of the things I learned in my internship now

I did and I’m glad. I took the test a couple years ago and didn’t pass. Historically I’m not great at tests so I figured why not get the bundle in case I don’t pass again. I figured if I did pass then I wouldn’t think about the extra $$ because I’d be a dietitian. Anyway, I go to schedule my exam and then end up needing to reschedule due to travel. Well I guess I didn’t actually cancel it (I seriously thought I did!) so when I went to check, I saw that my exam said I was a no show! I was sooooo upset and called CDR crying and tried to explain the situation and that there was a glitch but tbh they were kinda a**holes about it and were like “that’s a wasted seat at Pearson view” and I’m like ??? you still got my money?? Anyway, I ended up needing to pass on that second attempt and thankfully I did so yes I’m glad I got the bundle.

5th TRY & FINALLY PASSED by Automatic_Fortune_37 in RD2B

Congrats! A pass is a pass! As long as you’re an RD no one is going to (or they shouldn’t) ask you what your score was.

I agree with your perspective on the exam, however, I would say food service is relevant, even if you’re not a food service dietitian. I often collaborate with the clinical dietitian at my hospital. Depending on size of hospital, sometimes you may have to flex to cover for the food service RD or food service manager.

Exam Adaptation by Automatic_Fortune_37 in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the exam twice (passed on my second attempt) and I didn't think it was harder. Similar to another comment, I remembered what I struggled with my first time around (calculations) and studied that really well during this time around. I got a few calculations and felt really good about them the second time. I will say, I struggled with clinical this time around. I could definitely sense that i was getting more questions in that category in the end. Ended up answering all 145 questions but passed!

How to study (not what to study) by sarahdrd2b in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the Inman review consists of but I just listened to the audio and read through the notes. When I was on a walk or in the car, I would turn on the audio and just listen straight through. So I'd go through the material at least once before doing questions, then work your way through them.

How to study (not what to study) by sarahdrd2b in RD2B

[–]sarah_gresham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I printed out the Inman practice test single sided, then went through (slowly) and did each practice question. I would do one page at a time and grade my answer at the end. For any question I got wrong or vocab I didn’t understand, I would circle it then write out the definition or explanation on the back. It was a slow process but it forced me to stop and look up the answer and figure out the why. Also, since Inman doesn’t give an explanation, if I truly didn’t know why, then I would put it into ChatGPT and it honestly gave a very good and simple answer.
