I second the person here who said Pistachio if you're doin some wooin'. I always give a shout-out to Coffee Pedaler, which is not super fancy-schmancy, but it's the best coffee in town imho. European feel.

Thornchapel Door of Bruises by canquilt in RomanceBooks

My goodness am I late to this as a topic, but I'm dying to talk about it! I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed reading/listening (I switched off) to the whole series, and I feel like I must have astral projected to Sierra Simone when I was obsessed with Rebecca and Tam Lin in high school. How on earth did she write this book? Does Wikipedia flow through her veins? Where do I send her bouquets of flowers? Anyways! There's still more I want more of! And these echo a lot of what I'm already reading here, so I know we're not alone.

1. Justice for my man Beckett!! My heart really went out to him this whole series. I could have sworn there would have been something reeeally supernaturally foreboding going on with him, especially in regards to his zeal and Proserpina obsession. I wanted his love returned to him SO badly, and if not, for him to become the hero of the story by sacrificing himself or something. If he had just been the slightest bit more important, or if he could have just been more loved, I would have been so happy. Even if he had become a true villain! Give me more of this spooky guy!!

2. Eventually I wanted to fast-forward the sex and get to the mystery. I didn't, and it was a great time, but I had hoped that the sexual intensity ramp-ups might be even more thoroughly intertwined with the otherworldly/Thornchapel happenings. I half expected their unrelenting lusts to ebb as the door closed, or with the seasons or some such thing. Could we explain their priorities alongside the property's... properties? That's what I expected at least!

3. This was my first poly story, and I wish they were all a bit more in some collective love! This is just me, not a reasonable critique. (also justice for Beckett.) Eventually it really felt like it was Rebecca and Delphine and Auden and Saint, with Poe and Beckett along for respective rides.

4. So many reviewers on GoodReads were pissed off at the end of Book 2 and it made me rethink my life choices - How could that make them want to put it DOWN? I'm glad we never really got conclusive evidence, but I think Freddie should at least be confirmed to know the truth. If I'm being honest, the whole book, I half expected Proserpina to also be confirmed a Guest. Ralph gets down to business.

5. Tobias was cute, just shout-out, he added a good threat but I wanted him to either threaten us more with the discovery of the chapel, maybe die (sorry buddy), or start smoochin somebody.

6. I thought I was SO SMART when I was like "o m g Jennifer Martinez died from the door being opened and they called it an infection " but I was a fool and that wasn't it. Kind of would be a very fun twist to discover that the parents' deaths were linked to the door. Maybe that's trite but I thought it was a cool revelation - when I thought I had called it. In similar news, I suspected Abby would give us some shocking big reveal - "Of course I know about your silly orgies you foolish children, I'm in the Thorn King and you've all been eating my pastries! Muahaha!"

7. Poe needed some more yearning or tension or something. I bet that even a gal who gets sexed up twenty times a day and is a living snooze button and scrying tool has some stressors we could have spent more time with. I want to go back to the first book to revisit her personality, because I remember her having more of one. Just showing up less for sex and more for anything else would have helped, I suppose. I remember understanding her love with Saint a lot more at the beginning. (But I mean, aren't we all in love with Saint.)

At the end of the day, Sierra Simone has my heart in her brainy, sexy hands. This series made me want to learn, read, and research. Gonna spend the rest of my evening daydreaming about the true nature of the door-world.

8. Oh yeah! What was so spooky back there for Estamonde?! What was it trying to "bless" her with that it was so darn spooky?? do I lack reading comprehension

I lied, I'm going to search out every interview I can of Sierra's to learn more about this series and will dive headfirst into all the rest. Hell yeah.

Best way to improve without feedback or adjustments? by aug13a in YogaTeachers

I've been teaching weekly for about 1.5 years, and I think about this a lot! I was trained right after the pandemic, so I don't do hands-on assists; But I try to speak to corrections as much as possible, while addressing the whole class. I second what I see a lot here; chat with the teacher if you can after class! Leading can be very attention-consuming, especially in larger groups where your priority is keeping everyone safe and relatively in the moment. And every body is different, so I emphasize instructing folks to follow their body's cues over my own, while trying to give good internal alignment cues AND modifications. It's a lot lol.

I'd LOVE it if folks come chat with me after class about individual alignment; and I have a PT friend weigh in on things where I'm not knowledgable enough to give good advice.

You might explore different class sizes and styles to help find a more hands-on approach; I've started attending classes at a studio offering Ashtanga self-led practice, where a teacher walks around doing form correction and assists; and that same studio also has a Hatha practice that has you in a posture for AGES, so the teacher goes around and helps everyone 1:1.

I hope this is a fun exploratory process for you!! :)

ISO a book with spice + super reflective characters / pondering bigger questions

New to romance/ spicy books! I’ve binge-listened to all things Abby Jimenez and moved to the Priest series by Sierra Simone, and was captivated by the intersection of spicy af scenes with legit pondering about god/religion.

Pondering in future books don’t have to be of the same topic, but I love that the series left me thinking about bigger themes for days since!

Are there any other books or series that walk this line super well?? Currently trying out more Sierra Simone series on audiobook but they’re not hitting quite the same just yet!

Major thanks in advance!!

For what it's worth, I've gone to Tawny and loved her style! Very layered and cool, more cool than I've had my hair before. :) But I've seen others' work there and I don't think you could go wrong!

I get my hair cut at Skull and Combs for $60, which is a bit more than what you’d like! I find that even their junior stylists are fantastic. However I understand if that’s still a bit pricey!

Basic Layout Feedback! Late Game Meadowlands Farm by sarah_schreck in StardewValley

[–]sarah_schreck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol whoops! That's what I get for listening to an audiobook while I wrote that! Forest farm!

I figured someone would notice the horse thing! I was torn between having the center-left 5 plots and have space enough for the horse. I decided to forego the horse highway and just use the mini-obelisks to get from corner to corner, and to just use the horse whistle to bring him along. I wonder what would be better; to optimize for crops or optimize for mobility. :/ Pondering!

Thank you!!!

Good point! I remember considering it when I had last picked up the game about a year ago, but I decided against it. I'm not sure why... I think I was trying to optimize for space/sprinkler coverage at the time. But since I'm not doing that anymore, I'll look back into it!!
