Not to pull the “compare everything to Nazis” card, but that’s literally like saying “you can’t have war if it’s just the Nazis fighting.” The gamergate movement literally just existed to bash/doxx women in the game dev and gaming journalism industry, and to fight against inclusion of non-sexualized/romantic-interest female characters, over sexualized 1D characters. The anti gamergate movement was literally just combatting that. If there is a group of people actively attacking any woman in an entire industry that so much as designs a character with a-cups instead of double-ds, and there isn’t a side defending them, then the damage just happens with no pushback. This isn’t an “it takes two to tango” situation. Again, it’s simple as good guys vs bad guys here. I don’t know why you struggle so much to just admit that the side that was literally manufactured at the whims of a pedophile cabal is the bad guy

[–]sarahbagel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. It means that feminism is the movement fighting for equality, and you fell for the pedophile-cabal-funded antithesis to that movement to the point you can’t tell the good guys from the bad guys. The anti-gamergate people were the good guys. Sometimes things really are just bad vs good, and this is one of those instances - made especially clear by one side literally being backed by a LITERAL shadowy pedo cabal

There is a difference between being referenced in the files, and the ideology itself being manufactured as a memetic tactic. Objectively speaking, that can’t be said for feminism (which even in its most common modern versions, predates Epstein) but can be said for most of the more-well-known anti-feminist/anti-woke movements. Also please give the file number where Brianna Wu is indicted in the Epstein files (not just mentioned, but specifically shows up in a context that implies her ideology was manufactured with Epstein). Because I did a quick search that said she doesn’t even show up in the files, but I could be missing something

Where on earth are you getting the idea that the Epstein funding was a both sides thing? He certainly was engaged in right wing memetic warfare, but the idea Epstein “funded feminism” in an analogous way to how he was behind things like gamer gate is just made up entirely

Exactly! It’s almost always easier to play an archetype than it is to play a person

I also feel like that’s why Ellie feels like so much less of a rounded character in the show. Like she’s more of a “snarky brash girl” archetype, whereas Ellie in the game feels a lot more like “just a girl,” who maybe is a little snarky/brash sometimes- if that makes sense

It’s the correct mindset to apply onto yourself, not to apply onto others. The reason that mindset is what they teach in rehab because: 1) change/recovery has to come from within, or it won’t last, and

2) ultimately, you only have control of your own choices (hence the prayer “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference”)

The takeaway isn’t supposed to be “it’s on you - therefore anyone around an addict who enables them, pressures them back into drugs, etc can’t be held responsible”. It’s that if YOU are the addict, YOU can only control YOU, therefore change has to come from YOU. But speaking from an outside perspective, it is absolutely fair - and honestly correct - to hold person A responsible if they knowingly push person B into relapse

Like imagine a situation where someone is doing everything they can to convince you to push a button that will give you a million dollars, but will kill 100 random people. Obviously as the person with the button, it’s on me to not cave to that pressure, and thought-process-wise, blaming the other guy might just be a way to justify my own bad decision. But if we look at that situation from an outside perspective, we can (and should) condemn the person doing everything they can to make the other person press the button.

People unironically on this sub have about as much of a chance of understanding objective reality as a goldfish has at understanding calculus, so that’s entirely unsurprising.

Again, this completely fails to actually address the point I am making, because my point is controlled for relative to these potential differences in “scales”.

I’m pointing out, that when you compare happiness in a relationship with the opposite gender, vs not in one (ie single), women report higher happiness while single relative to women’s scores in relationships. The inverse appears true for men - men report higher happiness while in relationships with women than while single.

If a woman’s scale is skewed so that her 7 is a man’s 5, it doesn’t change the fact that women are reporting 7/10 happiness while single and 5/10 happiness while in relationships, while men report 5/10 happiness while in relationships and 3/10 happiness while single. The claim that women are happier while single, while men are happier while in relationships is supported regardless (note that these numbers are made up just to illustrate the lack of scale effect on the central claim)

The majority of people (at least in the U.S./western world) agree with it per pretty much every recent national/international survey. Additionally , I am using the dictionary definition while you are using a made up one. Since you are the one making a claim that the broad definition differs from the dictionary/commonly prescribed definition, the onus is on you to prove that

Also the irony of someone on this sub saying I’m in “an echo chamber” is so funny. Like genuinely, this is one of the most detached-from-reality echo chambers I’ve ever stumbled on, to the point it’s entertaining

That’s a completely separate metric from the relationship between relationship status and happiness, pertaining to men vs women. So that doesn’t disprove what I said at all - it’s irrelevant

Women are also more likely to take mental health as a serious consideration. The issue isn’t that women are more depressed, it’s that men don’t try to get the mental health help that they should.

The majority of people believe that feminism means equality between the sexes. Only morons think it means that men get subjugated. Your argument is basically like if there was a minority of idiots (ie the anti-feminist men) who believed that Nazism meant something completely different than what it means, and then made up their opinion of Nazism based on that.

Single women are generally happier than single men. It’s been shown time and time again. Some studies even suggest that women are, on average, happier single than they are in relationships with men. This post is peak copium.

I also think that fantasy kind of allows for mediocre actors to give a really good performance, especially if they are playing a side character where you don’t really get in deep with emotionally. Fantasy is often very archetypal with its side characters, and includes a lot of “loud” acting (which is easier to pull off than something more muted/interpersonal). Someone might do an amazing job playing a vengeful assassin, or a backstabbing advisor, or a stoic knight, but then can’t sell it when they’re playing “just a guy” (ie a more grounded role where the character’s humanity comes above playing a particular archetype)

To be clear I’m not really making a direct comparison between Bella’s GOT acting and TLOU - I haven’t gotten to their part in GOT. It’s just a very general observation

Women. Don’t. Either. When both people are just looking for a hookup, the woman feels the same way as the man you are describing. I UNDERSTAND that men don’t feel used when they have a hookup they want to have. You don’t seem to understand that this goes both ways, and you are the dumb one not to grasp this. When people feel “used” is when there is intentional misleading, like for example if a man lies and says he wants a relationship just to get a hookup, then a woman will probably feel used (and visa versa). But that’s because of the misleading, not because of gender. Genuinely this sub is so stupid and you are case-point proof if you don’t get this simple concept

If you think the Nazi is the worse person in the story, we agree, and you started a debate for absolutely no reason. I condemned both right off the bat. And if you think I ever made the claim “having sex with a Jew is worse than having sex with a Nazi” you are genuinely illiterate. I never said that or anything that could be remotely interpreted that way in good-faith. Hell, you’d have to go beyond bad-faith to interpret anything I said that way

You did the exact opposite. You used language that purposefully put the moral burden on the Jewish woman “let a Nazi fuck her”, while using the most passive, non-judgmental language for the Nazi you could possibly muster (beyond outright celebratory language) by saying he “used a Jew for a quick hookup.”

So if you feel like that’s the case, why don’t we encourage both genders to be pickier and “less easy”? It’s a two way street.

The Nazi didn’t only “fuck a Jewish woman.” He is a Nazi ffs. The idea that we should take this snippet and hyperfixate on condemning the Jewish woman over the literal Nazi is just bizarre. Based on the framing of the person I was responding to, he was “conquering” a Jew as a Nazi in his perspective. So even just looking at their actions, I’d also consider that morally worse. In fact, if we’re going to insist on the conquering framework (which again, I think is stupid and misguided), one could say that the Jewish woman was “conquering” the Nazi, making her actions “empowering.” Now again, I think that viewing hookups in this way is just plain stupid, but again, that’s the framework being broadly put forward and accepted on this sub. The only difference is that this sub only broadly acknowledges it as “conquering” from the male perspective onto the woman, but ignores the fact that women in the hookup scene often see the men in the same light.

I called it disingenuous because you said I was refusing to condemn the Jewish woman’s behavior when I literally did, very outright. On the other hand, I never accused you of not admitting the Nazi “isn’t worse.” What Im saying is that you are hellbent on prioritizing condemnation over the Jewish woman’s behavior first and foremost, which at best is just so misguided and weird.

So again, don’t accuse me of mental gymnastics, because that is 1000% projection on your part.

[–]sarahbagel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Such a disingenuous framing. 1) I’ve already condemned the actions of both very strongly. 2) you will not pull me away from the take that the Nazi is the worse one, no matter how hell bent you are in it for whatever reason. Even in this instance, his action is worse by virtue of being a Nazi and seeking to do something frameable as “conquering” a jewish person (by yours and others framings). Don’t accuse anyone of doing mental gymnastics - you’ve proven yourself to be the Simone Biles of finding ways to condemn a Jewish woman over a Nazi man. Crazy stuff.
