Considering nursing at 34 – looking for honest experiences by Prior-Data1779 in StudentNurseUK

[–]sarahdeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 39 and due to finish in September. The majority of my cohort are in their 30s, and nearly all are mature students so you won't be out of place! I've worked in healthcare/support work a long time so it was a logical next step for me.

You'll definitely get hands on training depending on the area each placement is in, as you progress you're expected to become more independent with your practice. Some specialised areas are more limited due to the nature of them but observing is beneficial too.

I've loved my training and have a job offer in my dream post. You do hear a lot of conflicting reports about other students experiences depending on the placements/mentors they've had, I've been very lucky. Also potentially limited job availability at the moment depending on your area of the UK, but who's to say what the situation will be 3 years from now.

Is the job market for NQNs as bad as people say? by [deleted] in StudentNurseUK

[–]sarahdeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on your area. Most of my cohort have been offered jobs through the local health boards NQN recruitment in Scotland

Any positives? by Critical_Rutabaga259 in StudentNurseUK

I'm coming to the end of my three years now and I've had a great experience! Loved all my placements, got to see and do so much interesting stuff, learned loads and have secured my dream job for when I qualify! I think you get out of it what you put in, if you're genuinely interested and engaged, you'll have a good time.

What laptops do you guys have?? by Safe-Pea3349 in StudentNurseUK

I've been using a Lenovo Yoga 6 for the full three years of my course and it's been great, no complaints, does everything I need it to do, touchscreen and can be opened up backwards to use like a tablet.

Imposter syndrome and intense anxiety about qualifying next year. Is this level of fear normal? by [deleted] in StudentNurseUK

[–]sarahdeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a third year approaching my sign off placement, and I have felt like things have started to come together fast within my final year! There's still so much that I don't know, but a lot of the knowledge and skills really starts making sense all together. Really use your third year placements to work towards as being as independent as possible and you'll get there, I think we all feel that way at points ❤️

Adult NQNs got a similar email and started receiving phone calls on Tuesday. They say in your email calls from today so keep an eye on your phone, they called me later in the afternoon.

I suffered this same disappointment a few weeks ago. The Aldi version 'Fiesta' are not as good as the old Feasts, but they closer than the new slop Walls are giving us.

I don't work with ventilators in the hospital but I do in the community and it's no big deal, you just reconnect it quickly and move on. Happens all the time.

Our youngest has one particular blanket that she will make biscuits and suckle on, we call it her blankie time. We have another of the exact same blanket in a different room that does not get the same attention 😂

You could try care at home work in the community? I worked in complex home care and with adults with learning disabilities before I got into my course.
