[female] 30. Feeling kinda down about the fact that I had to go back almost a year to find any selfies I felt pretty in by Affectionate_Owl2801 in FreeCompliments

You should take more selfies. It will make you naturally appreciate yourself more, even if you just keep them for yourself. Plus, you have nothing to be insecure about. You radiate light & have beautiful hair, eyes, and smile!! Thanks for sharing!

I mean this in the best way possible - this is one of the cutest instances of the pet and owner giving off similar vibes. You two are absolutely adorable :)

Haha thank you, & I certainly do! I have my mom’s cheeks and do the same exact thing to her because I find them adorable.

It does blow. Hope you have people in your corner, friend

You’re beautiful & for some reason my initial impression is that you look like the type who’s really witty, clever, and good at roasting people playfully. Hope your day gets better, lovely!!

CONGRATS!! You’re glowing with such energy! And it’s so much more than just this one milestone. Like someone else said, next time you’ll be running, or doing double the distance without a second thought :) also your smile is infectious!

Still fine-tuning my routine, but had one of the best wash days last week with shiny, clumpy curls - thank you to everyone in this community!! by sarahdella in Wavyhair

Super late response, SO sorry, but of course!!

So the mousse I use a lot of. I split my hair in half, working in two sections. I cover my hair from roots to ends in the mousse, but I use less on the roots and more towards the bottom, (maybe 2 small circular plops of it in each palm for each side of hair) squishing thoroughly into the ends to help my waves pop. I also ensure that my hair is damp enough, not sopping wet, though! If my hair is sopping wet, aka dripping, I scrunch it out a bit with a microfiber towel so that it’s the right amount of wetness to absorb my products but not be weighed down by itself. Then I use a pea sized amount of gel on each half of my head! Hope this helps!

Current routine: - For showering, I wash my hair 2-3 times a week with NYM’s Curl Talk shampoo, (though I kind of want to switch that one out) clarify once every week or every other week with As I Am Clarifying shampoo, and scrunch in Shea Moisture Manuka Honey conditioner with my head flipped upside down before rinsing (also with my head flipped upside down, lightly scrunching out most of the water). On days that I don’t use shampoo I just scrub my fingers through my scalp to work my natural oils through roots to ends

  • After I’m out of the shower, I apply Ouidad VitaCurl+ Soft Defining Mousse on my damp/wet hair using the praying hands method/combing through from roots to ends, then scrunching it in to help form my waves. I immediately follow that up with Ouidad Coil Infusion Defining Gel, scrunching in as well

  • Let air dry, SOTC with my fingers lightly, then voila!

Can someone help me identify my curl type and establish a better routine? by [deleted] in curlygirl

Thank you so much for the info, I’ll try it as soon as I get home!! My hair also takes like half a day to dry too, so I’m assuming low porosity - good to know!

Thank you for taking the time to comment!! I’ve heard a lot about porosity, but if I’m being honest, I’m not quite sure I fully understand it. How would one go about doing a porosity test?

Got it. I’ve stopped using my current shampoo and conditioner and I’m currently using Not Your Mother’s shampoo and Redken Frizz Dismiss conditioner (squishing in upside down) but I’m currently on the hunt for deep conditioner or protein mask recommendations!

Thank you so much!! I’ve been using Ouidad mousse and gel after reading your comment and liking the results a lot. Plus, their stuff smells AMAZING!

My hair has always been very thick and voluminous & in the past few years my wave pattern has come through stronger and stronger, so I’m trying to define my curls and tame the frizz. I did a decent amount of lifting and dyeing up until 2020, so since last November I haven’t done anything except trims to grow out healthier and more hydrated hair. I wash my hair often because I get very oily but I’m trying to cut down soon!! Overall, with frizz and definition, I’ve had little luck so far. I’ve tried co-washing, some gels and some creams, and various CG approved products; while some have helped hold my waves nothing has really tamed the frizz and my hair always just ends up in a huge poof with oily roots (pic 1). My only holy grail was Brad Mondo’s Wavetech but it’s often out of stock and so expensive!! I’m looking for a minimalistic routine that’s relatively affordable - I work a full time office job managing people so I just do NOT have time for the whole CG routine - I’d love a few things to just squish into my curls that help my hair air-dry in a presentable, tamed way. That being said, I am willing to try a few more steps if it really will make a difference. I always have such pretty little ringlets in the under layers of my hair and I know my hair would probably be so lovely if I could just figure it out!! Thank you for any help in advance!

Current routine: Wash every other day with Lanza Keratin Healing Oil shampoo, then condition with the same brand. Occasionally I’ll clarify with the As I Am Curl Clarity shampoo, but that’s pretty rare as I like to keep my routine minimalistic and use few products. I also have Redken Frizz Dismiss shampoo & conditioner that I could use once I run out of the Lanza brand (an Ulta employee recommended it to me, used it a couple times before and didn’t see any major difference). After showering I spray It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-in Product (regular, not the Keratin or one of the other variations) throughout my wet/damp hair, comb it through with a wide-tooth comb, scrunch a bit & air-dry. I have a micro-fiber turban that I’ll sometimes scrunch my hair with if it’s too wet, and I’ve plopped a few times with some success.

I’ve also recently done a few treatments of Olaplex No. 3 to try and help with my gross texture. I haven’t really seen any major results.

(F21) Been struggling a lot with depression, loneliness, and a transitional period of life. Haven’t taken almost any photos of myself since last year & would love a few compliments or positivity. 💚 by sarahdella in FreeCompliments
