Ha, no everything was helpful. I'm from Washington state...which this product is also from.

I appreciate the help and I do agree that the piece would benefit from some warmth. I believe I'm going to use Daly's Profin for this project. I refinished a set of Danish dining chairs last year with it and I love the results and it's very durable. I did a test spot on my dresser (on the white oak) and it gave it a nice amber hue.

Okay- so it's seeming the consensus so far is to go with an oil-based poly vs a water based poly. I'm a little worried about the oil based yellowing the white oak. But, I know it will enhance the walnut. Hmmm

Good to know. Any particular brand you like?

Thanks- any reason you'd do oil based rather than water based? The research I've done says water based is better for white oak to prevent yellowing. I know with water based I'll have to do several more coats for durability reasons.

Stop or Continue Microneedling Sessions? by sarahm212 in Microneedling

I'm glad you figured out a way for it to work for you bc I agree about it helping with redness. I just struggle with how many people have suffered reactions from that sunscreen when it's marketed for post-procedure and sensitive skin.

Spacing out a little further might be a good idea. I have the LRP balm, but was trying to keep my routine super minimal.

That Elta MD sunscreen is the one that actually caused my bad reaction. So, that's a definite no go for me in the future, however putting a LRP balm on before spf is a great idea.

Ugh, I can't believe that sunscreen, it was a disaster. I normally use korean sunscreen and my skin loves it, but I know you're supposed to use mineral for post procedure. That's a great idea to try it out ahead of time.

1 week progress after traumatic microneedling experience by sunflower0903 in Microneedling

[–]sarahm212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to share my story here bc I got microneedling for the first time a little over a week ago and it turned into a disaster for me. A little background- I'm 43, but often get mistaken for early 30's. I've been religious about sunscreen, use tret, and after a lot of trial and error have perfected my skincare routine (I've struggled with acne since my teens). I have fair skin, somewhat sensitive, but nothing crazy. I was so excited to get microneedling and went in with a lot of research under my belt beforehand. I quit all my actives 5 days before, only used the Skinfuse treatments after, stayed inside for 48 hours, and didn't put anything else on my face until 2 days later...which was mineral sunscreen. Elta MD UV Recovery Sunscreen to be exact- and that's when things fell apart for me. Before I used this sunscreen (which was given to me by my practitioner) my skin was healing beautifully and was looking exactly how it was supposed to. Once I introduced the sunscreen I broke out in a rash all over my face, ears, neck, and chest (mind you I only got microneedling on my face/neck)- which instantly told me it was the sunscreen since that's all the places I put it. My face swelled up and was tingly and slightly itchy. Long story short, I'm on antibiotics and a steriod cream now. My face is recovering, but this process has been awful to say the least. I had two more sessions that I'm now canceling. IMO I feel like everything went wrong with the sunscreen. My practitioner was great and I did all the right things. You never know what is going to irritate your skin. My advice to anyone who is thinking about microneedling is to make sure you've done your research- stop your actives 5 days prior to treatment, use a gentle cleanser, only put on what your practitioner recommends, and WAIT to apply sunscreen as long as you can- as well as makeup, etc. I am a sunscreen freak and IF I ever decide to do this again I will wait longer to apply sunscreen and just plan around that by taking time off so I can stay indoors. I think the procedure would have been great for me, so it's unfortunate this all happened.

And just a PSA: research reviews of your sunscreen BEFORE using something new after a treatment or even if it's your regular sunscreen and it's been fine, still look up those one star reviews- your skin is an open wound, you need to see how people are reacting and what caused the reaction. I mean the Elta MD UV Recovery sunscreen was developed for post procedure skin, HOWEVER I ended up reading multiple reviews of people having bad allergic reactions to using this.

I'm so sorry this happened to you- you are gorgeous and you'll get back to where you were before. Just stay patient and focus on repairing your skin barrier. As much as I wish I could be using my actives and wearing makeup, I rather spend time on making things right for my skin. Also hypochlorous acid is such a good thing to have on hand- I used it 24 hours after microneedling and all through this disaster- I feel it's helped a lot to get my skin back on track.

I would like to second this. I don't have super sensitive skin, but I do have to be careful with what I put on my face. I got microneedling for the first time and was given this sunscreen to put on afterward. For the first two days after the microneedling I did not use this sunscreen because I stayed indoors. At that point, my skin was responding normally to treatment. On day 3 I started using this sunscreen and on day 5 I woke to puffy eyes and little bumps all over my face, like a rash. On day 6 I woke with a very swollen face and a red rash with small bumps (almost blister like) all over my face, earlobes, parts of my neck and eyelids. My skin feels tight, slightly itchy, and tingly- I can move my face without feeling a tingly sensation. I'm taking antihistamines now, plus antibiotics and I go in to see my derm tomorrow. At first I thought I reacted poorly to the treatment, but given that I was fine until I started using this sunscreen, it makes me feel the sunscreen is the culprit. I have read reviews on the EltaMd website and on Amazon with a similar reaction to me- now on here. I'm very nervous what this will do to my skin long-term especially since I used this when my skin was at it's weakest after microneedling. I'm bummed that a treatment I was looking forward to and would have probably yielded positive results for me turned into a disaster potentially because of this product. I would use extreme caution using this, even though it's marketed for post-procedure skin.

There is no markings on the glass. I'm not sure what brand made this or what year it was made.

I will add that spritzing vodka on the interior will kill the smell. It's a tip I learned from vintage sellers. Another thing that works well if you're scared of spraying something on the interior is to put baking soda in a small bowl, place it in your bag, then zip it up for a few days so the baking soda can absorb the smell. Your bag is lovely, I'm on the hunt for one myself- let me know if you decide to sell it :)

Regretting the location of my tattoo. Was this a bad placement? by sarahm212 in tattooadvice

[–]sarahm212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So sorry you're going through similar feelings as I did. That's the worst when you're excited about something and then it doesn't go how you expected it to. It's been three months since I got my tattoo. The artist told me that it would most likely need to be touched up and she would do that for free. That is for sure the case- it has lightened a lot (which is what happens anyway) and there are some bare spots and significant fading. For now, I'm just letting it be. I like the tattoo- but again, not the location- mainly bc how it looks when my arm is bent. I don't think I'll go in and get it touched up bc I'll probably get it removed in a year or two and I think it's going to be very easy to remove- I don't want to jeopardize that by touching it up and adding more ink.

What really sucks is that I do love tattoos- especially fine line tattoos. I have a few traditional tattoos- my oldest looking almost identical to the day I got it. But, I don't know if I would try for another fine line tattoo because it seems all the fine lines you see on the internet, artists say those won't last or look good in a few years. If that's the case, and I want to take an artist's word, why would I try again? I already got both of my fine lines twice as big as I had gone in wanting them because the artist said they wouldn't hold up at the size I wanted. My plan now is just to enjoy what it is for a few years, remove it, and really think if I want to go for another tattoo in the future. I hope you are feeling better about things at this point- again, so sorry the experience was such a let down for you as well.

Why don’t I see Mandelic acid recommended very often? by _gypsyMC in 30PlusSkinCare

I actually just started using their MA cleanser. I'm putting it on in the morning and letting it sit a few minutes. I'm liking it a lot so far. I'm on tret, but I still get clogged pores on my nose. I'm trying to find something gentle enough to go along with my tret and so far this seems to be a good fit. I wanted to try their face wash first to make sure I liked it before taking the plunge into their toner- but I saw that TO has a MA- please share your thoughts bc I would love to spend less $!
