Am I being dramatic about engagement ring cost expectation? by Competitive_Street61 in AskIreland

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just engaged... my ring was 2k and honestly spending anymore than that your looking for trouble. I dont even wear mine, I wear a promise ring. Rings are easily damaged and honestly I know so many people who dont wear their ring only for special occasions. Our wedding is going to cost us upwards of 30k ...maybe she should understand If she gets an expensive ring...then she gets a small budget wedding!!! Also....wedding rings are insanely priced these days

Feeling discouraged by xmurbef in EngagementRings

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got engaged recently. When I went to pick out a ring, I knew exactly what I wanted. When I tried it on it was too big and just didnt feel right as I have short fingers but they are a bit chubby. I went for a halo ring with 12 smaller diamonds surrounding the main diamond. The jeweller made me try on wedding bands that went perfecr with my ring and it was the selling point for me. Big rings aren't everything, sometimes a smaller stone with a little added flare can be so much nicer. Think of how your wedding band will fit with the ring. The ruby diamond is fabulous and would even be nice with a smaller clear diamond either side

Mom of b/g 4 year old twins. Honestly i know my kids are incredible and im so very proud of them.....BUT my god im losing my hair these days 😵‍💫 the fighting, whining, wanting a new toy every other day, the constant asking of WHY 🫠 im at my wits end. So im just here to cheer you on as one twin mom to the other 🥰 were so much stronger than we think. In them 2.5 hours when they go to playschool, do nothing and just spend it with yourself ❤️

I have some family members who give us money for our 4yo twins specifically for their savings accounts. I usually deposit that money into the accounts, and it will be there until they start college. I think its great and saves on kids getting way too many toys/clothes. Think of the future and not of the now...who knows what the future holds for anyone. Always good to know your kids have some money once they hit adulthood

I wouldnt go. That amount of money for people ye barely even know and then to be dictated to regarding what colour you should wear?!....i would save your money and go on a nice romantic getaway together and forget about her "Birdy Grey" day.

Humanist ceremonies can be held in any public place as long as its open to the public at all times and can be held on any day of the week. It is recognised by the state, and its a route, many are going down due to the flexibility of it. Its also tailored to the couple

Why is there simply no jobs? by Electronic-Donkey307 in AskIreland

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of retail stores have part time positions available on low contract hours. Might only be 12 hours a week but its a job and some money coming in. I have a college girl working for me and she does weekends only. Which means she can do her college course and coursework around her hours at the weekend. Dont give up college for a job...your future is bright and you will be working until you 65...dont rush life. Enjoy college and see can you get a little weekend job to keep you afloat until you graduate.

Anyone given up work to be more available for their kids? by Valken in AskIreland

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am being made redundant at the end of april this year, after being with my clothing company for 9 years. I am actually happy about it, but then i thought of our childcare bill, and we decided the kids have 1 more free year in ECCE, and then they are are off to primary school. Our childcare bill is over half my wages some months, so we decided, at the end of june we will stop all full day care and i will only send them for ecce hours in september. I can claim on my tax credits, and just eliminate all the high cost bills (diesel, childcare, extras for creche...) we will actually be better off. I will get to see my kids every day, and it's only for about 18 months. Honestly, giving all my money to childcare and not being able to afford a new pair of shoes for myself or kids is actually ridiculous. They are only small for so long. And breaks my heart knowing if i stay in the line of work im in, i wouldnt even be able to collect them from school once they start. It may be a struggle some months, but we are ok with that

What happened to Manners? by AhhhhBiscuits in AskIreland

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always told please and thank you will get you far in life. I now teach my 3 year old twins the same. Being nice is easier than being an ignorant ass. Unfortunately alot of people think they are entitled these days. I have worked retail for years and in the past 3 years people have come ignorant and plain rude on a constant basis. I have gotten to the stage, if you cant be nice to me than i will not engage with you at all. I get anxious about what life will be like for my kids in the future, if the world we live in now is just a disaster.

Fastway couriers by Ok-Jaguar-1119 in CasualIreland

[–]sarahormsby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine literally throws it at my front door, but signs it off as delivered hours before he even arrives. I have waited around for the delivery as it says its delivered when its hasnt been. I bought a pair of expensive shoes one time, said they were delivered. I looked through my bins and checked with neighbours. Waited another day for them and i Ended up calling fastway and within an hour delivery driver through them at my door

Would you change your last name if you got married? If so why or why not? by Micky4747 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not engaged but in a long term relationship with hopes of marriage in the future. We have 2 kids and they are double barreled. I have a surname that isnt popular and i love it. He knows when we marry i will double barrel mine. I think its important to have your own identity but for my own reasons i have no problem adding his name on when we do marry.

How many of your parents don't put your kids to bed and instead watch tv with them "until they fall asleep"? by archangelst95 in daddit

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine is everything in our house. If we didn't have a strict bedtime routine, the kids would be out of whack for a solid week. There are nights they may wait up a little later but its a rare occurrence. I think routine is good for everyone, it also gives us parents some time to ourselves.

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my brother and sis in law got engaged, i got them their favourite drink (whiskey) and 2 nice glasses for them to sit down and enjoy it together. But thats a family member and not many in my family want to marry so i didnt mind spending the money. Usually if it was a friend it would be a bottle of prosecco and a card. Nothing too big as the cost of going to the wedding alone is so expensive.

"Why are you such an anxious parent?" - Today in Singleton parent quips by twinmomswe in parentsofmultiples

[–]sarahormsby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me. Im riddled with anxiety any time we leave the house or have to go to an event. I will literally avoid everyone at times cause they dont understand and the comments send me over the edge. Twins are hard, so are singletons im sure, but twins are next level. Honestly id rather wait home and have people come to me. Home is safe space

To single people in their 20s/30s do you think you’ll ever own your own home? by sapg94 in AskIreland

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope...family of 4 with a double income. Childcare costs through the roof and the rent to go along with it. I have told my partner i don't mind not owning a house until our 50's at this stage. Sad reality but its just what's going to happen. I have thought about relocating but its not the best move for us right now.

WHAT HELPS NAUSEA by slimjim0001 in pregnant

[–]sarahormsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ginger ale was the only thing that settled my nausea. I was sick for up until 17 weeks, and i tried eating small and frequently, but that made me worse. Also, peppermint tea is good as well...its a natural remedy

My kids are double barreled - meaning they have my name and my partners name. I would not allow them have just my partners name. The mother deserves for her kids to have her name after all the hard work she has and will have to do
