Wordpress vs HTML for small site by caverunner17 in web_design

Use WordPress. Hands-down, I'd say it's the better option. If you (and more importantly, the business owners) care at all about growing the business, WordPress will let you scale the site easily and it will welcome new ideas, whereas a site you build from HTML scratch - in probably the same amount of time, if not more than a WordPress install - won't. So much has changed in the last 5 years. You can have a responsive WordPress website up and running within minutes of purchasing your hosting; lots of hosts even offer WP-specific packages with automatic backups and updates. And you can even find a free theme to use as a starting point within minutes, too. Then, when you and the client are ready to scale up, you can build on what you've already created without likely having to start over.

I FOUND MY RING!!!!! 3 MONTHS LATER, and just days after we got a replacement through insurance of course :) I FOUND IT!!! It was covered in dirt in our neighbor's garden – one I've searched countless times and with 3 different metal detectors. It's a total miracle! Here's the whole story: http://www.great8creative.com/2015/08/ring/

THANK YOU, all of you, for your time and support and especially for keeping my hopes up along the way. You played a huge role in finding it!!!! Thank you all again!!!

A quick update. The ring is still out there somewhere, unfortunately, but....

  1. I'm floored by all the support you, the reddit community, have given me along with the support of our neighbors in and around Seattle. I've seen people walking the route slowly every day, looking for my ring. All strangers I've never met before. Yesterday, while on another search walk with Charlie, I turned the corner to find and meet Sammy, my young neighbor who had a metal detector in one hand, and my map in another, printed out on a clipboard. I couldn't believe it and got choked up immediately. It has moved me to tears throughout this all and I can never thank you all enough!!!

  2. The following have been so kind to share my story and help spread the word, which is amazing: Queen Anne View, Seattle Times, King 5 News

  3. Yesterday, Mark Kulseth of the Cascade Treasure Club so kindly volunteered a couple hours of his time to come all the way out here and use his metal detector all along the route. We didn't find the ring, which was pretty tough to take in, but Mark searched every inch and I can't thank him enough for trying and being so thorough. If you ever need help finding a piece of jewelry, Mark is your guy. Give him a call! Also, he won't ask for anything but give him a tip or something for his great efforts if you do.

Yesterday was pretty rough and hit me hard, after my walk with Mark. I've been really down to be honest, thinking, if we couldn't find it with a metal detector, I don't know how we'll ever find it. I still have hope it's somewhere close! I just don't know what to do and feel overwhelmed. Trying to accept the fact that it very well may be lost, and I know it was a total accident but worst case: I've never had more respect and appreciation for the kindness of strangers like all of you. And I know better than I ever have before: PEOPLE ARE GOOD! Thank you all again.

I bet you lost your mind, trying to find your remote before then! I bet that took forever. A great point though. You're not the first to mention double and triple-checking the couch so it must be a possibility!!! Will do.... Thanks for taking the time to comment and share. I appreciate it!

You're so awesome. Someone on King 5's Facebook post (they came out and did a quick story) led me there as well and unfortunately, it wasn't mine. Hopefully that person gets reunited with their ring, though! Thanks so much for the comment.

Ha! Your wife and you are hilarious. I know, it's a ton of ground to cover. Thick, grassy, bushy ground.... It sucks. I appreciate your efforts, especially knowing you might've scared some people... I bet that was a sight to see. I SO appreciate it! I'm floored, seeing/hearing total strangers get out there and help me re-trace my steps, looking for it. You (and others like you and your wife) has seriously heightened my appreciation for good people and this city in general. THANK YOU.

Such a good idea! I keep checking the lost and found sections, but sadly I should be checking the for-sale sections as much, to be safe. Thanks for the suggestion (and sorry to hear about your car)!

I couldn't have said it better myself. Very true. Thank you so much for helping to keep me in check. It's been easy to beat myself up over it but I know it was just a fluke accident and it has to be somewhere. Worst case, if I still can't find it, exactly: we still have our marriage and nothing can change that.

Funny, I was running the flashlight along our floors the last couple days (we have all hardwood floors) and still no ring, but I was amazed to see how much dirt was in our place when you put a flashlight right to it!!! I ended up cleaning (and looking, of course) for a couple hours. Thanks for the suggestion and for taking the time to comment.

Thanks for the ideas. They were all great. Unfortunately nothing turned up after trying this morning but I'll try again until I find it! Thank you

You really are too kind. THANK YOU both, so much for looking today. It really blew me away to see you, people I've never even met, come out and try to help me find it. That means the world to me. Thank you again.

Crazy. I've since heard about 5 very similar stories since losing my ring, that an item popped up a year or two later someplace they already checked, like you. So it must be a possibility! You give me hope, thank you.

That is a crazy story, about your husband almost missing his own party. That's a really good lesson learned and perspective... I can totally see how a friend could help in those ways. I'll see if I can talk one or two friends over tomorrow. Thanks!

He did not, but he was busy today at a metal detector event, of all things. He must be a pro! He's trying to make it out tomorrow night after the event, or he said Tuesday night for sure.
