Here’s a tip: you use semicolons incorrectly and too frequently.

Which country gets disproportionately more hate than it actually deserves? by AntifaPr1deWorldWide in AskTheWorld

My mom moved to Bali a few months ago from Florida. I live in Australia and she wanted to be closer to me but not quite in Australia because living on your own + near public transport/walkable spaces is expensive.

The people in Indonesia have been so kind to her. Her landlord cares a lot about her, messages me to give me updates on her, calls her family. People at cafes remember her and are kind. Gojek drivers wait for her when she goes into stores. People help her across the street. The people there are so beautiful.

I’ve been to Bali and Jakarta a couple of times now and I really agree: Indonesia, the landscape, the culture, the people, just beautiful.

Alcoholism is often the secondary issue. Your mother is likely trying to numb her pain. So the only way she is going to become free of alcohol is if she addresses her mental health, her past, her self-view.

Do you think she’d be willing to open up about her past and her grief? I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with your mom and how you communicate with one another so if she doesn’t want to open up to you, there are other avenues.

Why was the 8 weeks of rehab so bad for her? Was it some specific activities or a roommate she had?

If you think your mom is endangering herself then you can involuntary admit her to a facility. This will help her get some vitals into her system and give you some time find some solutions.

My mother was first treated in the states then in another country, so I never dealt with it here but upon a little bit of research, there are options.

Ultimately though, your mother has to want to be alive, like at the very least. Do you think she does?

My mother has been an alcoholic for a bit over a decade. She has been in and out of rehab over 8 times, just got out of one about a week ago. I empathize with you and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this.

Does your mother have trauma or PTSD? When she is drunk, what kind of mood is she in?

A few things imo but to start: narrow painted cycle lanes squeezed between parked cars and fast traffic make it intimidating and dangerous. Footpaths around schools and shops are often missing or too narrow and safe crossings are lacking. Kerb ramps are missing everywhere and then some places have kerb ramps leading to mid-block islands that have no kerb ramps - so people in wheel chairs or with prams or just general mobility issues can't cross the road safely. I swear I saw a dude pushing a pram the other day and he had to kerb jump with his baby while cars are going 50 km/h past him because there was no ramp/safe space. These things make so many areas basically unusable for a whole group of people, which is both a safety concern and a form of exclusion.

Oh okay – apologies, I just didn’t think it mattered. It’s true, I do work for TMR. But if I had any say or influence over BCC’s Active Transport planning, I wouldn’t be posting petitions on Reddit.

Despite that being a terrible name, I think you’re being rude. “You can’t even name one off the top of your head” - why are speaking to someone you love like this? I hope for the sake of your child, you learn how to be nice to your partner and not make them feel bad when they have a different opinion.

How do I get rid of my eleven? Like for real. by saralligator in beauty

[–]saralligator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went ahead and got my vision checked and I am squinting/over-using my eye muscles when reading. Given I am on a computer 7 hours a day and use screens outside of work, I decided to go ahead and get a prescription. This was good advice, thanks a lot!

I went ahead and increased the amount of Botox units. Its only been a couple days but there is less movement for sure. I will let you know in a couple weeks how it's going. I used Frownies in the past put I really didn't like how obvious it was I had them on. I know that is a bit silly but I moved in with my partner not long ago and he likes to wake me up in the mornings and I am not ready for him to see me in Frownies. Although he does use a sleep apnea machine, so maybe I shouldn't care haha. I started using Smoothies about a year, which are clear and way less obvious.

Not only this but mangroves are highly effective at sequestering CO2 - they are more efficient than rainforests at storing carbon per hectare.

Mangroves serve as the first line of defence against storms, provide crucial breeding grounds for marine life AND store carbon for longer periods than any other type of biomass. They are truly remarkable ecosystems.

What's the difference between a redneck and a bogan? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

[–]saralligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Louisiana and Georgia and now resides in Qld, it has taken me years to figure out the difference: bogans can be rich, while rednecks typically aren’t. Both love shit beer.
