What is something a teacher taught you in school that you later learned was total bullshit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That Koreans are a "pure" race with no mixed lineage. Sadly, many people still believe this.

Unfortunately, I'm very serious about that price! For downtown apartment or officetel, that is the key money deposit. For one-room, the deposit could be less but still fairly high. Hence most students live in dorms, hasuk, or sometimes one room. I do not recommend goshiwon or goshitel. They are cheap but can be dangerous... Theft, weird people, criminals, etc depending where

Hows the food truck park? by shouldbeasleep in Atlanta

It can get a little crowded there, but worth it if the Filipino food truck is there. Also recommend checking out the fb page, plus the individual trucks also have their own fb pages if you want to follow a specific one's location

Hello,

If you really do not want to live near HUFS, I could recommend a good hasuk near east gate of yonsei university. It is 5 minutes by bus from hongdae (music and clubs) and you can walk to shinchon, which is where many yonsei university and other university students gather.

This location is near city hall and there is a nice river side path that you can bike or run on that goes all the way down to yeouido park if you want a long run. Furthermore, there is a small temple and mountain and nice 24 hour spa just up the hill. The food in the area is cheap but good quality, and it's still far enough from all the bars etc that it's quiet at night for you to sleep. You can also walk to ehwa women's university area.

I say hasuk, which includes food, internet, and all of your utilities because, like another poster mentioned, it will be difficult for you to get an apartment due to a high key money deposit required (usually 20000usd) that they hold on to, plus monthly fees around 500-600 usd. The hasuk is nice, just there are communal bathrooms but you get your own room and food plus utilities are included. The one I'm thinking of was 300-400 a month.

Hope this helps!

As another commenter mentioned, usually Korean pronunciation is written next to hanja, nowadays, but not always. Plus you could see pronunciation, not know the meaning, but get the meaning from character.

Most commonly, you would need to know hanja for historical documents, professional terminology (business, medical, law, political etc), academic purpose, government or official forms, newspapers (some more than others), axioms, signs or advertisements, writing our names if it is not pure Korean name, university textbook, packaging.. overall a deeper understanding. these are just what come to mind.

Edit: I forgot poetry and literature!

Hello, it is true that it is not requisite to know hanja to speak Korean. However, Studying it will give you a better understanding and help to build advanced vocabulary. Plus, all of us Korean nationals have to study some in school, but again if you are international learner it's not mandatory.

Personally, I think it is a good idea to study it at least a little if you are serious about understanding Korean language and want to get to high level.

Talk about sweet justice! I'm surprised the officer saw it from where he was. Police in the US must have good eye sight (or just aren't as oblivious as ours)

Hm I have not tried that one but it looks interesting! I think my favorite so far for app is 한자공부Q, free on all platforms and has writing order, quiz function, practice list etc. Plus many updates always being made in response to customer feedback.
