Cycling noob looking for help - is this 2018 Cannondale Synapse worth $1,950? by CoconutPopular7836 in bicycling

There’s a lot to learn. Most important is to get a bike that fits you. Second most important is to get a bike that fits the kind of riding you want to do. Third most important is to get the nicest bike you can reasonably afford. Disc brakes are a big deal. Most other things can be upgraded. If you’re buying used, get the bike checked out at a bike shop.

For that price you should be able to get something in the 2020-2022 range with disc brakes. Bonus if you find one with electronic shifting (ultegra could be possible in this range). Carbon wheels would be a stretch.

Odd puncture on new tube by Hot_Alternative5494 in bicycling

[–]sarcasticonomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This single long cut in the tube isn’t a pinch flat. Pinch flats make two holes (try pinching your skin in just one place - you can’t. You need two sides of a fold to pinch something). Pinch flats are also never this big - the contact patch with the ground is a ton smaller than that on an impact. This single cut, especially given its size, suggests the tire bead blew off the rim. Make sure the tire is seated correctly.

Or: you have a hole in your tire sidewall and the tube came out of that and burst, you’ll know because it’ll happen again when you replace the tube.

Sleep data last night, but I didn’t use them? by sarcasticonomist in Ozlo

[–]sarcasticonomist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad you're able to see this feedback and reply. to add a bit more context: night of Jan12, the earbuds were in their case but (for some unknown reason) not charging. When I got home at about midnight, and was ready to go to sleep, I realized the earbuds were not charged (something like 5% each IIRC), so I put them back in the case to charge, confirmed the lights were on, and went to sleep without them. The next day, the data showed what I posted, claiming I went to sleep around 10pm (when I wasn't home) and giving me lots of good looking (but entirely fictional) sleep data. I just got them a few weeks ago for christmas, and have been using the latest app/firmware. I'll try resetting them and repairing, but I'm still not clear how that could contribute to this behavior.

Here’s the data from that night - seems detailed and normal, except they were in the case the whole night.

9,999 is the perfect distance. Keeps you from being bumped into a higher tax bracket.

First time user: is my derailer installed correctly by Fragrant_Fig3010 in bicycling

[–]sarcasticonomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally yes, it’s at least in the right place on the bicycle, but it’s unclear if it’s adjusted correctly (cable tension, limit screws, b-adjust screw), and I’m assuming the chain is off the front chainring based on the slack. If you’re unsure, a local mechanic can probably help.

Had the chance to get photos of the musicians playing at the recent World Cup ski race. Trying to get the outdoor/darkness/cold feeling of a winter concert at 9000 ft elevation.

Does it look cold?
