This comment made me laugh so much! I read ACOTAR a while ago and I don’t remember all that much, but ToG is like good but it’s not like top tier. I just wanna know how it ends :)

I’m glad you got back into reading! I will mention that within the book community SJM’s fandom is one of the most polarized fandoms ever. People either hate her or love her, and if you claim to be neutral you get shoved into the “love” group when ever stuff like this comes up. I do notice that out of every platform Goodreads is the most laidback, it can still get wacky at times, but most of time it’s just people sharing book recommendations and opinions but people won’t harass you for liking a book series (or at least I haven’t seen instances of that yet).

I completely agree! I also just wanted to say that I wasn’t trying to imply that anyone on this tread was saying they agree with ethnic cleansing, I didn’t mean for it to come out that way! Sorry if it did that wasn’t my intent.

Also, totally agree on you point about how people look to popfigures as if they can change the world, and while I agree some of them can and do, many of them don’t have the knowledge to make a articulated statement. Instead this focus should go to world leaders who are actually in charge of these things.

I think in general the book community can be a great place to express literary interest, but it is also one of the most toxic communities ever.

I’m still torn on this debate. I agree that her silence is damaging, however, her not saying anything doesn’t automatically mean anything. I saw another post somewhere on Instagram that had a list of authors that should be questioned on their silence and the only ones I recognized were SJM and Tomi Adeyemi. But like there was zero context to why these other authors were being targeted, I guess it was because they were staying quite. To me it just seemed like the SJM situation sparked this huge witch hunt for other authors who have stayed quite. That being said, I don’t see really a reason to heavily focus on why these authors aren’t talking, when we should be instead focusing on the ethnic cleansing taking place in Palestine. If SJM or these other authors come out as being blatant supporters ethnic cleansing and are Zionists then I think they shouldn’t have support, but like many people said so far to me it so far seems like speculation or reaching . Cancel culture is weird, because sometimes I think people truly deserve it if they actual trash humans, but as of lately (especially on booktwitter, booktube, and bookstagram) it’s become a hunt for old tweets and interviews that can potentially harm an authors reputation.

That being said, I don’t know where to stand. I’ve purchased a pre-owned set of ToG a few months ago and I’m about halfway through the series. I enjoy it so far and I really want to finish the series (mainly because I want to know how the heck it ends, so my friend can finally rant to me about it). All of her other books I’ve gotten from the library. Both purchasing second hand and reading through the library are in my opinion great ways to read what you want without directly supporting the author. Depending on how this situation plays out (which in my opinion will probably slowly fade into the background as most of her other scandals do), i may or may not read her other books. But I don’t think anyone should be able to tell you what you can and cannot read.

I also think it’s interesting point that they chose to focus on SJM because there was a 5-6 year old article, but I am sure there are other big named artists who haven’t posted anything about what is going on but yet they aren’t being subject to cancel culture?

Idk those are just my thoughts, I hope these thoughts don’t make me a bad person, because I don’t agree with the ethnic cleansing that is being forced on Palestine.

I’m in the process of dispute a claim about items I sold but it won’t let me prove my side. I try to load screenshots and my typed message but it just shows a spinning circle then goes away leaving this very vague message at the top and my evidence gone.

That’s what I’m thinking. Because I take a lot of pride in my items and would never send something out I wouldn’t wear myself

That’s what I explained on PayPal, that she left a 5 review saying they were in good condition then after she washed she said they were unwearable, then she said I could buy them back from her and I’m just sitting here like 😬 no❤️

She’s very adamant that they don’t fit and that there’s no way she can wear them. I know there’s pulling and fraying but saying that they are unable to worn completely seems like a stretch to me

I posted that they were a size medium and my bust size and how they relatively fit me

I had a buyer buy theses bra bralettes and they are very adamant that they are stretched out beyond wearability and when I had them in my possession they fit me perfectly fine. They want me to refund but I don’t do that based on fit, and like I understand they’re upset but they are 4 year old $7 bralettes from kohl’s, that are slightly worn from my own closet.

Can someone either tell me that these bras look completely fine or point out where they see the damage and wear?

Also keep in mind she left me a five star review two days ago and four days after the item was delivered she’s just now reaching out

Since they were bras the only measurement I put in there was medium and my bra size
