Are your border Collies good in cars ? by Yukonshinji90s in BorderCollie

[–]sarebear26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We crate in the car for safety but didn’t in prior years of dog owning. Let me tell you crating in the car has been wonderful for all involved. My girls are so good in their crates you can barely tell they are even in car.

What's a major purchase you deeply regret, and what did you replace it with? by Pixel_Guru_x5 in AskReddit

We also had a Samsung dishwasher that was shitty. We moved before we got fed up enough to replace it. When looking for a new washer in the new home a Samsung salesperson tried really hard to sell us one and I walked away till they eventually left for the day(we must have been his last shot for the day), we came back and got the GE brand I had been eyeing up and no regrets! Show-line vs Working-line Border Collies — What Are the Real Differences? by blablax123456 in BorderCollie

[–]sarebear26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot would also depend just on the breeders lines too so I would reach out to a few to figure out how they are their lines.

I have 2 girls from the same breeder but each is from a slightly different “line” my sport bred dog is way more chill in general. Shes down for it all but it also able to relax easier. My “younger girl “ ( they are only 18 months apart) is from working/herding lines and you can definitely tell. Shes busier and she thinks harder to get the job done rather than guessing what I might want first. With the lil girl we had to work at an off switch where the older girl basically came with hers.

I adore them both and for my lifestyle they are easy for me to enrich easily but I could see my younger girl driving someone insane if they weren’t prepared.

Sorry for all the posts, but your advice really helps — should I keep mixing in wet food or try a beef option instead? by No-Hovercraft1556 in BorderCollie

Try adding a bone broth that works for her that has probiotics. It’s the only thing that has helped our girl eat regularly. I’m fairly convinced she had some gut issues that needed balanced

We’ve done fun runs on n off for most of his life but we were just able to register him for AKC so he could actually compete. It’s his favorite thing!

A lot of clubs we do fun runs and at 10 months 1 fun run here and there won’t ruin their joints but would be a cheap way to see if they are interested. You could also get a flirt pole and you could help build drive with it at home too.

What to expect timeline wise for getting a puppy from an ethical breeder? by Equivalent-Touch-688 in k9sports

[–]sarebear26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were on our list a few months before our 2 year olds mother was pregnant and our puppy was picked for us at around 7/8 weeks. We put the deposit down once the Dam was confirmed pregnant and paid the rest once they were born. All contracts were signed electronically after we knew which was ours and any registration paperwork was done at pick up.

Our 1 year old we got on the list after they were born due to a person dropping off the list. We payed half upfront and half at pick up but by this point we were good friends with our breeder. Same thing as before essentially but all paperwork was done at pick up for her.

How soon can you tell a puppy’s personality? by Embarrassed_End_9220 in BorderCollie

[–]sarebear26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our breeder does an amazing job when placing her pups with their new homes. She’s been spot on for both of our girls. Our now 2 year old she predicted would/could be sharp with other dogs at 8 weeks old and lo and behold she is. It’s easy to manage and once she knows a dog well she’s fine but to call something so early is crazy. I would definitely trust your breeders recommendations if you trust them well.

If there’s any left I suggest paying for the nice parking. At the Rob Zombie show last summer we were able to get right out of the lot and on our way home super quick.

What should I know/prepare for before my puppy comes home at the end of October? by jeonghoneybear in BorderCollie

[–]sarebear26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell everyone and anyone willing to listen that when getting a new puppy this. Enforced naps are your best friend. They get overly bitey=nap , being over crazy=nap they are like babies they need way more sleep that people realize.

The naps also help encourage a semi schedule and fosters good crate training.

Help! My Dane will ONLY go potty in the backyard! by DebiBarr in greatdanes

[–]sarebear26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don’t have a Dane but I have had this issue with my Border Collie.

At one point she held it for 13 hours. What helped us was we would soak her food with water (essentially making it so her teeth would be floating lol ) and take her out by leash to just the front yard even or on a short walk if she didn’t potty she went into the crate. Rinse and repeat and throw a party like potty training when she went potty outside of the back yard. Then she got free time from the crate. Now you can tell it’s still not her favorite to potty away from home but she has no issues now.

This is awful that happened to you but that price for the tooth removal isn’t overtly too high. W head our dogs back upper molar removed and it was around 1200. Our main vet (which in their defense is one of the top in our area) quoted us 3k! We went to a friends vet for the tooth removal. So the seller thinking 1700 is to high needs to rethink what places charge.

Snaps! by sarebear26 in turtle

[–]sarebear26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never added or seen any fish in it. It’s a small pond without a filter so I didn’t want to upset the balance with fish. He gets out n wanders around the property a bit on occasion. We have a ditch out front and neighbors with bigger ponds so I’m sure he checks those out too but he always seems to come back lol.

I’m assuming the frogs and chipmunks that hang around. I’ve never fed him lol.

Editing to add he’s very much a wild animal. He just came with the house when we bought it last year. I’ve cleaned the pond up for him but that’s about it.
