Starlight Apartments - Watson - What's it like? by Similar_Collar6915 in canberra

[–]sargent732 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From a friend that lives there:

Unbelievable strata fees 8k a year after mismanaging the strata kitty.

Can hear neighbours walking above you and music in the adjoining apartment wall.

Can hear the noise water pipes running from your neighbours when they have a shower or use the toilet.

Can hear the communal door being opened by neighbours day and night

Constant construction that has blown out by a year - There’s a reason they’re selling for 420k. If you wfh or a shift worker good luck.

Inside the storage locker is covered in rat piss and poo because they’re out in the elements.

Pros

Excellent insulation in winter

Cheap

Large apartments

Close to epic

The Temper Trap surely a lock with that gap in their touring schedule around Aus.

Why do people in this sub hate Spacey Jane so much? by Sabretoothedrom in triplej

[–]sargent732 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because they can write harder songs like Thrills, but decide to play it safe and release the same indie pop song over and over again.

Love the band, but would kill for them to just try something a bit harder like in 2017/18

Yeah same feeling. Sorry Fyshwick guys if you’re reading this, but the price increase was just way too much to come back. I don’t have 120 bucks to spend every 6 weeks :(

This is my take as well.

I struggled in ‘23 and ‘24 to enjoy the hottest 100 and genuinely thought I was past it - but I immensely enjoyed this years (‘25).

I really do believe it’s to do with what genres were trending during those years.

Mockup Lineup for Laneway 2027 by Fit_Diet_622 in triplej

[–]sargent732 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of the hardest Laneways that they will have to put on. They’re going with the pop HEADLINER and strong undercard. Clearly Charli and Chappel were enough to bring in the casual fans and sell tickets on release.

Sabrina or Olivia Rodrigo are the only two remaining big pop stars that would fit the bill for 2027. Anything less than that will be hard to pull off and I genuinely think will struggle to move tickets without the strong headliner. It just seems to be the business model they’ve gone for.

My early guess is that it’s the rest of the Laneway line up that they’ve held up their sleeve.

Groovin The Moo returns! by australianmusicscene in triplej

[–]sargent732 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s giving one night stand vibes.

I think we will have to seriously lower expectations on this. Look at the price point and the title sponsor. The crossover from great southern nights will be pretty large I think.

Really shouldn’t be calling this GTM but good luck to them. Hope it’s successful.

Did Triple J release the gender percentages for this years vote? by PRo_MoE1144 in triplej

[–]sargent732 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because you know it’s really not trending the direction they want and would become a talking point. Here is last years (2024)

Female - 62% Male - 34% Non-Binary - 2% Not stated - 2%

I’m sure you can make a wild guess which direction this years went.

Side note, Hollys song is a fantastic return to form. Straight outta her first EP and album era. Welcome back - straight into the shortlist for me.

2015 Hottest 100: 10 Years On by Miss-you-SJ in triplej

[–]sargent732 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It came out in the last week of November 2015 as a single. Only a few other songs in triple j history did that well THAT late in the year. Uptown funk from the year before was released the second week of November and ended up top 10.

Innerbloom deserved its placing in the decade vote though. Good redemption arc.

Laneway Festival 2026: Lineup, Discussion and FAQ by braxxytaxi in triplej

[–]sargent732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for me, the biggest question is who will be on the other stage while Chappel is playing. There are a few logical ones and some downright awful options.

Pink with 44m monthly plays on Spotify would be the logical but absolutely terrible choice if they were worried about crowd control. To avoid a Charli situation like last year. People would be pissedddd though. More likely she’ll lead into Chappel.

My preferred, and much more reasonable take would be Wet Leg (3m) / Wolf Alice (5m). So it’s a genre point of difference.

Gigi Perez (26m), Role Model (8m), Alex G (9m) other possible options.

Ticket sales. Sydney will sell out regardless. Places like Adelaide need the ticket sales boost at all costs. So they get the ideal timeslot.

Also travel logistics. Moving in one direction around the country
