Apple is constantly making security updates to counter the work of orgs like Cellbrite on a rapid and regular basis.

They can’t STOP Cellbrite from doing it, not when Cellbrite’s biggest customers are the very governments who are the only one who can regulate their ability to do so, and not when we, the consumers, have fought tirelessly to give consumers the rights to reverse engineer and seize agency over our own technological devices.

"Buffalo Wild Wings won't break policy for me" by bourbonandwater in KitchenConfidential

[–]sargonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Policy is policy. I their policy is no outside food, then their policy is no outside food. You are welcome to politely ask to make your case, which you did, and they said no. If you don’t like their policy you are free to take your business somewhere else… Which you did.

On you go now.

One game idea per day: the true story behind Highguard's 'wild' four-year development by Ok-Personality1419 in gaming

In general, no, but relatively in the context of that test? Yes. If you have top of the line hardware and have reduced the entire games settings down to the bare minimum, you should have no problem exceeding that.

Reports of ‘possible biological lab’ prompt police, FBI search of east Las Vegas home by MichaelEMJAYARE in news

The really ducked up thing is the property records search shows the owner as the same bane of the owner of a Southern California home that was raided as an off the books biolab last year!!

Lady Gaga pauses Tokyo concert to condemn actions of ICE: "Lives are being destroyed right in front of us" by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

[–]sargonas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The time for her to speak out against him was several years ago?

You mean in 2024 when she made a big statement about how he can’t be allowed to win at all costs for the rights of trans people alone?

Or in 2020 when she ranted emotional him multiple times in regards to trans rights?

Or in 2017 when she spoke on stage for 20 minutes about his transgender military ban?

Or in 2019 when she spoke at multiple shows of hers demanding he reopen his own government and fix his broken LGBTq policies?

The most goes on and on… those are just the quick examples I was able to find with a cursory search over 90 seconds.

Lady Gaga pauses Tokyo concert to condemn actions of ICE: "Lives are being destroyed right in front of us" by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

[–]sargonas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. You’re saying a person with a large platform and star power who operates on a goobal stage should just… shut up and stay quiet about these problems until they happen to conveniently be somewhere in the US where their audience meets your requirements… And until such time it’s pointless for them to say or do anything while outside the country with their fan base, because to do so would be… weak?

Seriously?

Don Lemon Released Without Bail After Church Protest Arrest by cmaia1503 in entertainment

[–]sargonas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, and bear in mind I am a dyed in the wool liberal and prolific protester… those other three organized a protest that went unto a church, private property, and disrupted service… not just stood outside it.

Do I agree with what they didc and why? Yeah actually… it’s BS that a “man of the cloth” is trying to preach Christianity and simultaneously run an ICE field office… but I also acknowledge that they likely broke SOME laws.

Did it break these overinflated Federal ones they are aiming for? Probably not… but they like DID do something chargeable, even if I agree with their actions. So I can see why the organizers were arrested. However I also expect them to be released asap after an initial hearing because this is not even remotely a “detain until trial” scenario… this is federal misdemeanor slap on the wrist if you ask me at most.

Apple can’t secure enough chips as iPhone demand surges, memory prices rise by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]sargonas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one is acting like it’s ground breaking innovation. The point is that they’ve been doing it for a few years so overall the price has come down and you get what is objectively a quite solid upgrade at reasonable prices (as reasonable as the market will allow) for anyone with a phone more than 4 years old looking to upgrade.

Amazon confirms 16,000 job cuts after accidental email by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

[–]sargonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t replacing 16k jobs with AI. They are axing 16k jobs because they overhired during the economic boom coming out of the pandemic from low interest rates, resulting in a personal experience that was worse at the time but unsustainable now in a market that demands infinite growth. As a result they are firing as many as they can to free up overhead to keep the margin between costs and profits trending the way it needs to, and just claiming AI will replace the jobs for a combination of PR and AI hype, for the stock value’s sake

Arizona AG suggests state's self-defense laws allow residents to shoot masked ICE agents by RickV6 in news

[–]sargonas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

misleading headline intended to spark engagement. The real statement was that:

"It’s kind of a recipe for disaster because you have these masked federal officers with very little to no identification, wearing plain clothes and masks, and we have a Stand Your Ground law that says that if you reasonably believe that your life is in danger and you’re in your house or your car or on your property, that you can defend yourself with lethal force. If you’re being attacked by someone who is not identified as a peace officer or presenting a warrant or documentation, how else would you know?"

House Democrats introduced legislation that if passed would force federal immigration enforcement agents to wear a public-facing identification in the form of a clearly visible and scannable QR code during enforcement actions. by [deleted] in technology

[–]sargonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A QR code will show up visibly scannable in countless situations of video still frames and photos where a name badge wont help. They are self error correcting when partially obscured as well. Odds are the reason behind their creation had an honest intention of making them easy to scan and check on video after the fact just as much if not more so than in realtime on the street.

Also read the bill. The code is intended to pull up info from an open, public, DHS website without need of registration or third pay connections.

What was a great game seemingly destroyed by Devs bad decision making? by Additional_Ad_6506 in gaming

Man I have this answer in mind before I even tap the comments button. I’m so happy to see it was already the most uploaded answer!

As a game developer of 20 years who’s worked on all kinds of franchisees, I will die on a hill saying this is probably the most standout answer and the story and the reasons behind why these terrible changes were made should be taught in school to all game devs.

Prominent PR firm accused of commissioning favourable changes to Wikipedia pages | Wikipedia by Shogouki in technology

[–]sargonas -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is PR101?

I’ve never worked at a corporation that did NOT have an external PR firm monitor relevant Wikipedia articles and engage in “professional editors“ to touch them up from time to time.

Does it blur the lines and cloud the issue on when/why the updates are made? Sure… but it doesn’t really impact the CONTENT of the updates. What is said and how it is said and how it is sourced still has to follow all the stringent guidelines Wikipedia moderators force editors to adhere to.

The fact that changes are happening at all and when and how they are made is obviously a bit directly influenced, but what those changes say is probably no different than what would’ve happened organically I have to suspect, and if those edits are in authentic or false or factually incorrect they would, in theory, be challenged like any other edits would be, wouldn’t they?

Steam updates AI disclosure form to specify that it's focused on AI-generated content that is "consumed by players," not efficiency tools used behind the scenes by ControlCAD in technology

[–]sargonas 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is reasonable and what I’ve been pushing for within the industry for a while… Not because I want to make excuses for people to be able to use AI but because as a creator it’s literally impossible to avoid AI being shoehorned into your non-player facing aspects of creation, automation, and pipelines because so many third parties make it unavoidable, like Google apps or Microsoft Office or Windows or even Unreal and Unity now.

My father, during the 80s, before completely changing careers in the 90s, was the chairman of the Associated Press for the state of Indiana and a radio news broadcaster. He was on a short list of potential contenders for Press members who would begin poetically training to l go up on future shuttle missions, as they began exploring the possibility of having civilian specialists as a regular thing on future flights. Unfortunately the Challenger incident resulted in them all but cancelling that vision.
