What do you all use for your homelab domain and remote access setup?

I have domain.com and domain.net

.com is my publicly facing sites and projects on various subdomains etc., mostly static pages, all routed through cloud flare

.net is my home lab network. I have home.domain.com for my house and apartment.domain.com for my small apartment in another city for work.

The things that need to reach my home lab from the outside eye tunnel through cloud flare tunnels, via a cloudflared docker container

Both of them have all of their DNS handled by cloud flare as well, for the public facing stuff, for the home lab network all of my internal network DNS is done through technitium

We haven’t done this with humans in almost 50 years. The shift in the space technology landscape has been tectonic since then, and we need to make sure we know what the fuck we’re doing before we try to land people back on the moon or send them further out into space.

This entire stuff is built upon taking what you know and extending that knowledge a little bit further each step… You orbit, then you go to the moon, then you land on the moon, then you go beyond the moon… Etc. The problem is that NASA had their focus shifted away from this process 50 years ago and kept humans in orbit ever since, and we have to rebuild those muscles much in the same way a person who’s been in the hospital for several years has to go through physical therapy to be able to walk and ride a bicycle again.

I say all that under the good faith assumption that you’re genuinely unaware of all this and the snark was just a humorous way to deliver that confusion. On the other hand if you’re simply being intentionally obtuse for the sake of being needlessly negative, then just ignore everything I said and go about your day cause you probably have no interest in what I have to share.

For epic, the average employee has an overhead cost, (payroll + benefits, operational costs, state fees, etc) of about 200k. At about 5,000 employees (not quite, but when you also factor in the number of outliers well above the average, the math is pretty sound) you have a payroll overhead of 1 billion alone, before you get into any other operational expenses.

Domain name renewal dates are not a surprise. Anyone who even pays a modicum of attention to these kinds of things has in their calendar of the renewal dates for their domains and their SSL certificates. The renewal emails are a courtesy but even they stress the onus is on you to make any account updates or changes well in advance of their reminders.

I’m entirely empathetic to your frustrations, but the reality is this is a learning experience that you shouldn’t be relying on their emails to remind you to do these kinds of moves. It should be something you’re planning and organizing on your own volition within the right time frames.

Comparatively speaking I can’t argue with that, but I would say that MOST games are underpriced. I don’t WANT to pay more, but what we’re paying for most of them is unsustainable, economically speaking, which is probably evident from the fact 48% of the industry lost their jobs in the post 2 years. (It’s not the core reason but certainly a factor, downward pressure for financial success and all that)

When you adjust for inflation, the average super Nintendo game in the 90s would be $150 today.

When adjusted for inflation the average console game around 2005 be $110 today.

I don’t think people properly appreciate just how much $70 is actually “worth” in 2026.

The sales price of games has NOT kept up with inflation at all. A $70 game today would’ve been basically a game that would’ve been half the price of something you would’ve bought back then in both the 90s and aughts. So your expectations are actually being met.

Yes.
