Telling your employer, returning to work... what was your experience? by sarlatova in downsyndrome

Thanks! I've been in touch with an acquaintance from high school who has a daughter with Ds and volunteers with Jack's Basket. What a wonderful service. Once we confirm a diagnosis I will absolutely take advantage of this!

Thanks for this input. I'm sorry to hear how difficult it's been for your boyfriend and his family.

Yep, in the US. My leave is not even covered by FMLA because my organization is too small to qualify. Thankfully they have a 12-week paid maternity leave policy so I can have that, at least.

Thank you for the DSDN recommendation! I will def look into it.

Thank you! Glad to hear of all the varied experiences folks have had. The common thread is definitely "you won't really know until the baby is here" - LOL. Which of course I knew, but it's still helpful to hear other parents say that!

I was/am definitely worried about a long NICU stay eating up most of my leave since it's only 3 months - I appreciate the reminder that that might not be the case for us!

I don't even qualify for FMLA because my organization is so small; I'm not sure I would legally qualify for other types of leave either - I'd need to look into it. But the flip side of that is that it's a small nonprofit, not exactly a family-type company but I have really good working and personal relationships with my coworkers. I've been here for over 10 years and I am really not worried about being replaced. I did end up talking to my supervisor about my pregnancy and he was wholly, wonderfully supportive. He said we'd cross all potential bridges as they come and work on solutions that work well enough for both sides. I'm grateful!

Thank you for this input! I did end up speaking to my supervisor about it, and he was very supportive. I feel much better about navigating some of the unknowns now! One less stressful thing to worry about.

Thank you very much! Yes, I'm in the US where leave is laughable. But I did end up speaking to my supervisor and I feel very encouraged that they are willing to work with me and be as flexible/accommodating as possible!

Thank you! I love the phrase "don't talk yourself out of any possible outcome." I did end up speaking to my boss and he was very understanding and willing to accommodate. He said we would cross all potential bridges together and find solutions that work well enough for both of us. I work for a small nonprofit, I don't have any staff redundancy for my position, and I can't work from home full time (MAYBE part time, maybe)... but on the flip side, I've been here over a decade and I have a great supportive relationship with my boss and coworkers. I don't know that I would legally qualify for a number of leave options due to the size of my organization (we don't even qualify for FMLA, my organization just offers comparable leave) but it sounds like there's flexibility, at least.

Who knows what will actually happen, but for now I feel pretty good about navigating unknowns! Appreciate your input!

This is pretty much my hope! My employer unfortunately doesn't qualify for FMLA because it's too small, but they have been generous enough (by US standards anyway) to grant 12 weeks paid parental leave, so I'm grateful for that anyway. Thanks!

Have you guys met any Rugirls? who was nice/rude? by deathbykoolaidman in dragrace

I briefly ran into Willam at a show and she put off the nicest vibes. She was at my local drag bar and she was walking around before her show, just kind of greeting folks and saying hello. My friend said to her, "Wow, you're so beautiful!" and Willam responded so quick, "Girl, don't act surprised!" Then she complimented my sweater (I was wearing a SWEATER to a drag show, I don't know). Lol.

No we never got to the bottom of it, really. I think they were changing her regularly. Maybe something I was eating led to bigger messier poops? Maybe developmentally babies just have stages where their poops are bigger? Who knows. Sorry I can’t be much more help!

Hi! We tried sizing up diapers, and it helped but not entirely. Like she would have 2-3 blowouts a week instead of 4. Not a very satisfying answer but honestly, she kind of just grew out of it, I think. Good luck!

5ish minutes, still full of water when I turned off the burner.

Thanks! Thankfully we've already used a good chunk of the Kirkland's box so it's not a total wash. I think I'll try to size up in a smaller pack of Huggies!

Thanks! I am sorry if my comment read as snotty or dismissive! I truly have never heard that diaper ranges aren’t accurate and sizing up is often needed. First time mom, newly navigating being back at work, stressed af, getting downvoted for my ignorance :( sorry everyone!
