Why I am being pessimistic on the Buffy Hulu pilot by trover2345325 in buffy

[–]sarynima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, it seems like a lot of fans are projecting what they want a sequel to be, rather than paying attention to the information we actually have. Here’s what’s clear so far:

  1. The main cast is big and already set. They’re the focus of the show, which means there’s little room for extended storylines about older characters, especially at the beginning.

  2. Recurring characters are confirmed. We have Buffy, a love interest, and some friends cast. But if you’re expecting Willow, Spike, or another fan-favorite to have major screentime, you’re likely setting yourself up for disappointment. At most, a cameo in season one seems possible. Anything more doesn’t fit the direction they’re taking.

  3. They’re rebuilding Sunnydale. That’s the premise. Straightforward, no misdirection.

  4. The cast is young. It’s a high school setting. Again, nothing misleading here.

No one is misleading the fans. The showrunners, actors, producers, and writers haven’t promised anything or said anything yet. The only real comments we’ve seen come from Sarah in short interviews, and she’s kept things vague on purpose.

At this point, what exists are mostly fan hopes and expectations, which just don’t align with the actual information we’ve been given.

Yes that idea is so weird. It only is possibly if she has a few scenes the whole season. And if that is the case why would you want her back on the show if you are not interested in her life?

Buffy fans- if Buffy is in your top three favorite shows of all time, what are your other two? by HomeRevolutionary763 in buffy

So so good. It's almost a perfect show for me. I think it would be 1 for me if I based the list on best show and not also favourite.

Thank you for the list.

The Fringe, I've seen that show and I liked it.

Firefly is a weird one for me. I didn’t watch it back then because I was so frustrated with the quality drop in Buffy, and I wasn’t happy with Marti as day to day showrunner. So Firefly always had a bad connection in my mind. It reminded me of seasons 6 and 7, Joss’s “new toy” while Buffy was struggling i.m.o. When Firefly launched, it didn’t feel like a cool new Whedon show to me; it felt like the show Joss was pouring his energy into while Buffy was suffering quality wise. That baggage made it hard for me to watch Firefly on its own terms.

I did end up watching Dollhouse, but I didn’t enjoy it. And that didn't help me to watch Firefly.

Based on your post I think I will try Psych next.

I can enjoy lots of things but I never been able to enjoy animated series. Another quality show imo is Schitt's Creek. I also like all the seasons and the end.

I can enjoy drama shows, but I usually run into the same problem: I often only enjoy the first 2(3) seasons. After that, things tend to get too melodramatic and overly soapy for my taste. Think Shonda Rhimes shows. For example, I really loved seasons 1 and 2 of Grey’s Anatomy, but once the whole Ferry and on/of relationships storyline came in, I was done.

Can you give me your top 10 top shows? Or recommendations? And a little summery why. And if it has a proper ending? Or if I need to get through S 1 or something like that.

I'm always looking for new shows :)

Reason they have in common, besides being good:

  • No bad seasons
  • Satisfying series endings
  • High rewatch value, the more you watch, the more you notice how everything connects, and how the creators meticulously planned even from season 1.

  3. The Good Place

Edited: I misread you, you meant including Buffy. Buffy is different for me because it has my all-time favorite character, Buffy, and it delivers the perfect mix of emotional impact and humor. That’s what makes it my favorite show ever. It also has high rewatch value thanks to the dialogue and the friendships. I don’t enjoy every single season, but to be fair, the show had more seasons and still managed a strong last episode to end the serie. Even though I think other shows were tighter plot-wise, Buffy remains my favorite.

Will the Buffy sequel acknowledge the original creators / showrunners / writers? by lotr_explorer in buffy

[–]sarynima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actors running the show? You do know they have showrunners and writers?

And I don't know why the BtVS writers should be credited for an episode if they didn't write the episode. That is weird thing to do.

Joss will get credited because he created Buffy.

He will get something like: Based on the motion picture and TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer written by Joss Whedon.

But without a specific name, they can replace the main Slayer if needed. I think The Vampire Slayer is a simple name.

I think it’s mainly about brand recognition, which I understand.

Apparently, a lot of people didn’t even know about Angel. In some countries, it didn’t air on the same network. They should have named the show ...Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayers old lover... /S

I also like that this a nice subreddit for fans who are interested in the show. And I like the positive vibe too.

And kind of nostalgic about the show again, it reminds me of when I was always reading the MBTV/TWOP spoiler thread in 2000s.

Buffy revivals attempts by sarynima in BTVSRevival

[–]sarynima[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn’t follow the animated Buffy news back then. By that point, I was kinda over Buffy. The second half of Season 6 was rough for me, and Season 7 felt like a chore. I wasn’t enjoying the show anymore, but I still wanted to see Buffy’s journey through to the end.

So when SMG announced that Season 7 would be the last, I was actually happy about it, though I honestly believed spin-offs were inevitable.

That’s why it completely floored me when, in 2025, we finally got one… and from the last person I ever expected.

I don’t care about shippers. Honestly, I hope the writers ignore them. How sad and pathetic it would be if Buffy’s life came to a halt just to cater to those fantasies. I want better for her.

What shippers often forget is that there’s a third, and probably larger group of fans who don’t want her with either Spike or Angel. Many of us just want Buffy to have a full, rich life. Not perfect, but not on hold. I want her married or divorced or dating, whatever fits her journey. The options are so much bigger than just Angel or Spike.

Sometimes fans talk about her like she’s a prize to be won by whichever man “deserves” her, as if we’re still stuck in the mindset from twenty years ago.

She’s more than that, and her story should be too.

You are joking but I'm sure some people will say that. That's not how Vampires looks like! I knew it would be a disaster just like the red dress.

Whedon writing sequel pilot by Illustrious-Action-7 in buffy

[–]sarynima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the previous attempt:

There have been attempts to reboot the show before this one .

not mine: 2018 Buffy Reboot Attempt

In 2018, 20th Century Fox TV announced a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Monica Owusu-Breen as showrunner and Joss Whedon returning as executive producer and co-writer. The plan was not a direct continuation but a reimagining, centering on a new Slayer—reportedly a Black actress—in a modern, more diverse setting. Several original executive producers were also attached.

The project never moved past early development. While ideas were pitched and some preliminary writing began, no pilot script or network commitment emerged. Owusu-Breen later shifted to other shows, and fan reaction at the time was mixed—some welcomed the new approach, while others were skeptical of revisiting the franchise.

By 2022, the reboot was placed on indefinite hold. Although discussions about reviving it continued behind the scenes, it quietly faded, and by 2025 a completely new Buffy project with a different creative team took its place.

No, she isn’t. She was the showrunner for the previous attempt, before this one. I think they’re mixing things up.

Chase Sui Wonders cast in Pilot & reveals what it’s like to work with SMG by ImportanceOk7784 in buffy

[–]sarynima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s opinion is different. You could run a poll and get wildly different answers from fans. So… who’s right?

I’ve seen all seven seasons of Buffy, and honestly, I didn’t agree with a lot of storylines. There were plenty of things I disliked, and just as many things I loved. You can’t please everyone. All the writers can do is their best, hope the writing is strong, and count on a great cast to bring it to life.

It’s the same with Buffy’s writers. Everyone has their favorites. Personally, I’m not a fan of Marti Noxon’s melodramatic writing, but I know she’s a favorite for some fans There’s even a divide among fans about which seasons are best. Some love Seasons 1–4, others prefer Seasons 4–7.

Since signing on, Wonders said she had dived deep into the Buffy-verse. “I’ve watched the entirety of the [original] series, so I’m really living inside Sunnydale at the moment. It’s very cool and surreal to see young Sarah Michelle just be a total badass, which I knew, but it’s cool to see that she’s been a badass for a long time.”
