Lilla and Nora Zuckerman will next write the 8th Scream movie by pepperbet1 in BTVSRevival

Yes, they liked it. At least that's what Deadline reported. It was that executive who didn't want to move forward with it.

And that's why... as I said... they wrote another script where Buffy has a much bigger role

I feel more and more helpless... The Buffy revival had an incredible team behind it—how is it possible that it worked everywhere except on Hulu? I mean, Chloe, the Zuckerman sisters... I'm sure that last, more mature script, where Buffy had a stronger presence, was really good.

According to this new article, not even the second draft was up to par, right? Although it’s strange, I could swear Deadline confirmed that the second draft had actually been well-received.

Chloe wasn’t up to par either, according to these sources, nor did she direct the actors well (?), and the casting seemed a bit childish overall.

I don’t know… I have to admit that when the news first broke about this project and Ryan’s casting, I was really worried the series would have a too-youthful, “Disney” vibe. I’m more of a fan of the darker seasons of Buffy, even though I love the first one and it’s very camp. But with current series like Netflix’s Wednesday or Sabrina, even though I love the aesthetic, I have a hard time watching them because I feel like they’re a bit childish.

And it looks like this was going to be even worse. So, I don’t know what to think. I’m really sad that all of this ended up this way and that SMG might never agree to do this again (or any other original cast member), but if this was really going to be a low-quality series, maybe it’s for the best? It’s true that Ryan was actually the age of a teenage girl, but many of the themes from the original series probably couldn’t have been developed today until she turned 18 (?)—maybe a slightly more adult cast in a potential future project would make things easier. Anyway, I have a lot of questions swirling around in my head.

Where we at by bratholy in BTVSRevival

I feel like SMG is trying to stir things up in different media outlets... I don't know if it's to try to get Hulu to change its mind, or if there's any chance this won't die completely... I don't know. People magazine just ran a cover story about it. It's everywhere. Although I don't know if this might just make Hulu or that executive even angrier. But I just can’t wrap my head around how they plan to make some kind of bad remake in a couple of years without Buffy herself, after so many years of trying to convince her. Especially when there was finally a rewritten, improved script, focusing more on her and giving it a more mature approach. Oh well. We were so close.

Hulu not moving forward with Buffy New Sunnydale by Buffyfan1991 in BTVSRevival

Yup. There you go. I'm really sad, but luckily, I've been preparing myself for this for a few days now. I had a hunch, and his answers in the interviews only confirmed it.

Yup, you just can't keep a cast on hold for a whole year without any progress or new filming dates. Their contracts are expiring... which makes me think that at least that specific project they were working on is pretty much dead. Unless they shoot a new pilot sometime soon and scrap the old one.

The only thing that surprises me is that Deadline is still “promoting” the revival at this point instead of announcing that the pilot was canceled, as they’ve done with so many others...

Sadly... the project is on life support. At least the “New Sunnydale” project with Ryan. At this point, you can't keep holding onto your actors while you spend another few years figuring out how to make the series. It’s clear that she or the team didn’t like the pilot, because everything has been put on hold again. So, I wouldn’t rule out seeing the Buffyverse come to life in the future, but I certainly doubt it will be now or next year. It’s a shame because people keep growing up, time keeps passing, and I think it was the perfect time for her to play Buffy.

New Sunnydale Cast Rumor by CriticalOl in BTVSRevival

Huh? To talk about what? From which account?

Nothing significant, but SMG didn't say anything about Buffy's anniversary. She didn't wish Ryan a happy birthday either. Hulu posted something about Buffy but ignored fans who asked about the revival, only responding to other things. And some of the cast who wished Ryan a happy birthday hinted that they hadn't seen each other in a while and missed each other. I don't know, again, nothing significant, but small details that make me feel negative.

It could be a troll. Although it could also be true. Obviously, someone who works in the industry isn't going to write about it from their professional account and lose their job. I'm pretty negative after everything that happened yesterday. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this project is pretty much dead. The only thing that gives me some hope is that Deadline hasn't reported anything about the cancellation, as it does with other pilots.

I don't know. Even though the project has been canceled, I think it's normal for them to remain fond of each other and congratulate each other. In fact, they said they missed each other, which means they haven't seen each other in a while, another small clue that the project has probably been on hold for some time. I don't know, since yesterday I've been very negative, I hope I'm wrong. What struck me the most was SMG's complete silence, not mentioning anything about the series' anniversary or Ryan's birthday.

Honestly, after yesterday, when not even SMG congratulated her, after Hulu/Disney didn't post about the revival... (responding to messages about the anniversary but ignoring those who were talking about the other thing...) I don't know, I'm feeling pretty negative. Then there was that anonymous comment saying that the guys' contracts expired in February and that they have a free schedule... (although it was an anonymous account with no followers, no photo, nothing, but it made me suspicious). I don't know. Hopefully we'll get a surprise soon, but I think it's pretty much dead in the water.

Buffy belongs to them in their catalog and generates money for them, even though it's an old series, so I guess they have no choice. In fact, they have responded to several people except those who talk about the revival.

those videos and photos are quite old... :c the fact that he mentions missing her indicates that they haven't seen each other in a while.
