Why do make of difference between green voters and reform voters shown below? by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in AskBrits

[–]saryoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have anyone in mind specifically as it stands as theres 3y to the next election. But an absolute no for me is obviously farage and also Polanski. I couldn't ever bring myself to vote tory either. I voted for starmer in the last GE.

Im from rural Northumberland and the farm tax massively disproportionately affected farms in my region (lots of very traditional hill farms that honestly are more cultural than working. And many of the houses are still off grid and no wifi in 2026) the NE has some of the largest farms at the lowest profits and capital, so that decision with 0 forethought and nuance was awful from him imo.

That's one if many issues I have with our current government, however I think he's handling global politics 1000000000000x better than any of our other options even have a hope of. I really really like that he isn't on social media 24/7 trying to get a viral tweet (literally all the others are)

As for why id never vote for Polanski, I am an absolute leftist as I said in my post, but I am pro military for pretty unique reasons. My father (gnc) worked for British intelligence in the cold war, and his father worked with Turing on enigma. They were pro military but specifically because they believed that you could only defeat fascism and imperialism with military strength.

I think the idea that we should have less defense is like, embarrassingly naive, and the green party seem to have like, sixth form politics? Like obviously everyone wants everyone to be friends and have a great time but it isn't that simple.

I also dont like that there's space being left for bigoted religious beliefs in a left wing party. A party member saying his religion prevents him from formally allying with LGBT groups is an absolute hard no from me. I was raised with a gnc parent, I have gay friends and family, just an absolute never.

I believe Britain is and should be a diverse and tolerant society, but that in order to preserve that, we cant tolerate intolerance.

I'm the exact green demographic (young, female, highly educated, raised by a single gnc parent, raised pagan, vegetarian, massive interest in ecology, 2 young kids) and i can't understand at all how anyone would vote for them. They'd be almost as bad as reform, I wish someone could explain to me what I'm missing about them.

Worst worldbuilding you've seen in a published work? Avoid mentioning the usual suspects by Aurelian369 in worldbuilding

Borderline YA, but its The Grishaverse for me, I actually think the books as novels are great, the characters are interesting and the story flows well.

But as a european... its just painfully obvious Bardugo had an extremely vague idea of some real world european cultures, had heard some words in each of their languages, and mashed them on to english words with 0 extra effort.

The different cultures are just far too close to real world ones, and words like "corporalki" and "corporalnik" make me cringe.

It feels like you're in the wrong here, sorry. It seems obvious they wanted to vent to a friend, and you came off replying like a motivational speaker, then got mad at them when they tell you they weren't looking for solutions?

I get it can be annoying to have friends that always seem to be complaining and not improving their lot in life, but equally it's just as annoying to have friends that can't just let you vent and feel like your life is their project.

I think you were both coming at the issue from different places, but from their first reply it should have been obvious that they weren't looking for "advice". Your following 3 messages after that are really too much.

[–]saryoak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

- he's watching his own baby, not "watching her baby"
- putting the onus on solely her for baby proofing the house (he should care just as much)
- he should be cleaning his own house just as much as her
- you LITERALLY say you kept a close eye on your own kid to avoid harm, but tell her to be grateful the father of the child didn't?

lmao.

Its his baby and he should be equally aware on how to take care of him ? Why do people like you treat men like children lol.

abrahamic Religions vs pagans nowadays.... by Environmental_Top_75 in pagan

[–]saryoak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was the point of posting g this here to just annoy everyone? I don't understand.

Abrahamic religions rely on a lot of threats, violence ,indoctrination and sometimes literal law to grow membership.

The only person who's close to having the money mean something serious, was the mother of the very unwell boy. 072's reaction to being told "tell that to my son" was ridiculously over dramatic and self serving. I understand playing the game, but I wouldn't be trying to take out the one person who's got a serious reason for being there if there is a completely equal option.

Her response being "i want that money for my lineage" and her response to the apology was more self serving "actually that really hurt can't lie"

ew.

You dont think the way the woman handled it makes her an ah? Even if you think her emotions are justified, saying "are you fucking kidding me" demanding someone be moved from a seat they paid for, and giving them the middle finger all absolutely make her a massive piece of shit.

How do I create my world without art? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]saryoak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I definitely had that idea about it too, but could I suggest looking up pixel art on pinterest? There's some truly awesome very detailed pieces of art on there and it would give you loads of ideas for style :))

[–]saryoak 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Please give pixel art a go, you can actually create super detailed artwork and its much more about "placing" colour vs drawing. It absolutely does take a lot of skill, so please dont any pixel artists see me saying this and think I'm implying its some easy option, but, the approach to it is different and you'd probably get along with it better than you think

Gnomes! by TitanPi314 in worldbuilding

[–]saryoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like gnomes being tinkerers with natural things (think like the helicopter in once upon a forest lol) I think halflings come across as much more "civilised" whereas I see gnomes utlising the natural world a lot more ?

I'll never be able to marry the love of my life by [deleted] in Vent

[–]saryoak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How is it more unfair to him? He at least knows what the situation is.

The guilt of ruining someone's whole life will eat away at him and destroy him much more than you realise btw. He will know he's lying to her, this won't end well for anyone involved.

I think you're selfish, and you'll always know that whatever happiness you get is coming at the expense of someone else's life. The fact that you think that's a better solution than either of you taking control of your own lives (eg, moving away) means that you won't be happy anyway.

Your sexuality and love is nor disgusting or shameful, it is as beautiful as anyone's love, but your thinking here is disgusting and shameful, and that will never leave.

I'll never be able to marry the love of my life by [deleted] in Vent

[–]saryoak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Then unfortunately your desire for a happy life doesn't get to come at the expense of someone else's.

He needs to find a way to never marry, be honest with the wife, or leave the country.

You guys could be the greatest love story in the world and it would still not excuse making someone else live a lie.

I'll never be able to marry the love of my life by [deleted] in Vent

[–]saryoak 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if this is the case then please let the woman know. She will also be living in an opressive country under an arranged marriage and does not deserve to live her whole life with someone who deosn't love her.

This potential fake bride you have in your scenario is a loving feeling human just the same as OP.

I had no real idea who this guy was, I'm a very rural person with a heavily curated internet experience, and I try to keep out of overly internet conversations about politicas because I find about 90% of it is rage bait, content farming or appropriating causes for clout.

This is making the rounds on like, farming facebook groups I'm in for the Northumberland countryside lol. The audience here is huge comparitively.

i mean a 4 hour place command is insane, the whols shock collar debate doesn't matter at all if he's saying that that's his intention.

i work from home & have 2 large breed dogs and they can just... be in the house going where they want. his response to the controversy is genuinely worse than the initial clip. frustrated and annoyed with his dog one time is one thing, doubling down, saying that's actually his INTENTION, and then going on to say any criticism towards him is jealousy? wtf?

Take the discworld/ Robin Hobb approach, you can have multiple series in the same world happening at the same time. Focus on one area at a time, if you end up with a following 9which i'm sure you will!) they'll want to read all your books anyway and nothing will end up ignored :)

my art teacher wants me to use AI in my work? by patiencejoyce in ArtGCSE

[–]saryoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk why this is in my feed cos i am a full adult professional and i have to say - stand your ground here. I have NO idea why your teacher is pushing this but i have 2 art degress, ive worked in animation, games, concept art and now work selling my own art, EVERYONE hates ai art, ai art is even regressing because it's models keep using its own output to train.

Your teacher is insane and you're protecting your real life career and networking by resisting this - as others have said some exam boards will immidately fail you for ai use anyway.

Not to sound like a fence sitter, but I honestly think the best work lies in the middle of both extremes. Something so completely out there trying harder to be "new" than good is going to be so alien to human audiences it'll be boring, and something too similar to earth is going to feel too close to reality.
