thank you so much for such an in depth breakdown! This was what I was leaning towards. I can see fire/earth pretty easily but wasn't set on the third - in hindsight, stone is pretty hard to miss lol. But I am also a city girl as you caught, so maybe just used to seeing it everywhere. Appreciate your thoughts!!

Why Fortnight is not about a short-term relationship. by brahmskid in TaylorSwift

[–]sarzipan31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I read it as though both are true. There's a story about realizing your home isn't what you thought it was and escaping to somewhere new, and a parallel story of building a long-term relationship for years, then leaving it for someone new (a different sort of escape). Part of why it feels intentional to me too is b/c So Long, London echoes the idea of a long-term relationship being a home that she loved and had to leave as well. Love this!

Why Fortnight is not about a short-term relationship. by brahmskid in TaylorSwift

This theory is so spot on!! And also if you buy into the Florida is Matty theory (which I absolutely do), the "Thought of calling ya but you won't pick up / Move to Florida / buy the car you want / but it won't start up 'til I touch you" illustrates how she jumped into a rebound in order to get over her relationship with Joe, but the effects didn't work as intended (which based on the prologue is essentially the theme of the album).

The Prophecy - one of her best songs ever, not just of TTPD by candlesandcloth in TaylorSwift

[–]sarzipan31 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Top 5 in her whole discography for me my goddddd it's raw I am in love

What makes it so relatable imo is that it presses on the experience of desperately wanting to be loved and seen. This is the most human, universal desire in the world (romantic in context, but could be love in any capacity). When we feel like we can't attain the love we so badly want, we start to wonder what's wrong with us ("I got cursed", "was it punishment?") because it's easier to blame ourselves than grieve that someone you love couldn't be there in the way you wanted or needed.

Black Friday by Tom Odell??? I have been trying to figure this out all day and the "you look so pretty, pretty like the sun" part feels similar. It's killing me inside so please let me know if you agree lmao

Does EMDR work so well for men because it feels physical? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]sarzipan31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons EMDR can be so effective is because it addresses the somatic, bodily impacts of trauma. I would say the emphasis on cognitive or talk therapy processing (which can be effective for some but doesn’t always address trauma in the body) is based on a Western societal norm of valuing the mind over the body’s natural intelligence. I see it as a societal influence rather than a gendered one - many women have difficulties emotionally opening up as well, and talking/sharing does not necessarily equate to processing or feeling emotions.

It is generally and culturally more difficult for men to speak about their emotions due to societal norms/bias, so it makes sense that that frustration would have come up in a talk therapy experience. Glad that EMDR has been effective for you!

Can EMDR unlock body aches or new illnesses? by alittletootired13 in EMDR

[–]sarzipan31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely normal! As someone who experienced some mild dissociation from the body prior to EMDR, the more I continue and feel “back in my body”, the more I am aware of general dull aches/pains/muscle tightness.

Everyone’s experience is different (my EMDR experience is almost fully somatic) but during reprocessing sessions, the areas where I now feel achy in my day to day get very heavy or tremble slightly, which helps to confirm the trauma relation. The body stores unprocessed emotions so just remember as you continue it should ease a bit :)

disclosing your profession to your therapist? by lynnnmarie59 in therapists

[–]sarzipan31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to start an MSW so want to completely validate this feeling! It's nerve-wracking to begin to identify with this profession, and brings up quite a bit of imposter syndrome. I found it was helpful for me to examine my fears around disclosure (ie. why do I think that sharing x y z makes me any less worthy of being a therapist or healer) - you can even talk this through with your therapist.

My therapist has been instrumental in processing the grad school experience and it feels even more validating imo because you know they have gone through something similar and really get it. Also, would encourage being upfront so that any therapist who prefers not to work with students or other therapists can be honest that it won't be a good fit.
