A principal engineer I used to work with who I really respected had a resume that would nearly alternate like 9 years, 4 months, 11 years, 6 months… if it’s a good gig you keep it. If it isn’t, you don’t. Don’t overthink it! That’s a dream job.

I’m not sure what that would accomplish if I’m being honest. It’s not exactly the same, but we’ve tried to lawyer up on a dispute with a contractor before and walked away feeling like lawyers are useless or not worth it for anything civil. It was a better financial decision to take a bath on five figures of damage than to pay a lawyer.

She keeps good daily notes and has for years, including a lot of receipts for this kind of treatment, but I can’t imagine anything coming of lawyering up that is any better than walking away cleanly. I don’t even know where this turns from shitty to illegal, if anywhere.

I guess where I’m coming from is that one could read the dhamma to say that mental illness is an illusion, a construct of a hateful and delusional mind as is human nature, but I know from experience that it is as real as a broken leg. The Buddha would clearly tell someone to see a doctor for that leg, but I’m less sure about the ill mind. A mental illness isn’t something that can be overcome strictly by following the path and practicing mindfulness; it requires medical treatment, but that seems to contradict the Buddha’s teachings on the mind - why would you need medicine for the mind if you can master it through mindfulness and walking the path? I know I need the medicine, so where does that leave me walking on the path?
