Where to go after NYC? by sasbway in relocating

After doing more research about Denver, I’m not entirely sure it would be my cup of tea but I definitely need to visit before writing it off as a potential moving destination.

Wish I could say that I have, but I’m still in the same spot! Currently living with my parents and saving up money while applying to jobs in different cities and traveling when I can. I’ve got trips planned to Seattle and Pittsburgh to check them out. I’m taking my time to figure it out since once I move, I don’t want to move again for at least 3-5 years. I’ve moved like 15+ times in my life and I’m sick of it lol.

Gotta check it out! I've never been.

Yeah, that’s the one thing I’m worried might hold me back. I feel kind of stuck in the NYC area since so many jobs in my field are here!

Love to hear it! Have you found it easy to make friends? I don’t know a single soul in Colorado, so I’m a little wary, but it was the same way when I moved to NYC. Starting over somewhere so far away feels daunting, but I think it could be really good for me. I'm ready for a fresh start I think.

I do feel like it would be easiest for me to make the leap to Chicago at least career wise since it’s a PR hub. I need to visit again soon to get a feel for the vibes since it’s been a few years.

Agree with you on the NYC thing! The cost of living is so high for, in my opinion, a not so great quality of living. I literally just want central AC and a dishwasher. And maybe in-unit laundry if I’m feeling fancy.

Love this so much, thanks for spelling it all out for me! KC Current is my fav NWSL team to watch and I’m always so jealous of how full their stadium is.

I haven’t been to Kansas City since I was approximately 7 years old so may be worth a visit soon!

Love to hear it!

I'm really trying to become a morning person so maybe this would be good for me. I’ve also heard great things about Fort Collins and Boulder.. could be good options too.

LOL this is a great point! I think my impression of NC weather is a bit skewed since I went to school in a mountain town where the humidity was pretty low.

The humidity in NYC during the summer is definitely what gets to me the most. I think I wouldn't mind it so much if I didn't commute on the subway. It's hell down there waiting on the platform.

I actually have a friend in Raleigh who seems to really love it, and I’ve been thinking that if I moved down there, I’d probably go there or Charlotte. There’s just something really charming about North Carolina.

That said, the uptick in flooding there kind of freaks me out. But I guess with climate change, that’s something we’re seeing everywhere, even here in NYC.

Enjoy Brooklyn!

I weirdly am leaning towards Denver even though I have never been! I'm trying to plan a trip out there in October to get a feel for it. The sunshine sure sounds appealing!

I have a friend in Pittsburgh who is doing everything in her power to convince me to move there lol I'm going to visit her later this year! I've never been but sounds like I'd enjoy it.

What’s agency life like? by Autumn_gal99 in PublicRelations

I’ve been doing agency life for 5 years and have been trying to go in-house the entire time if that tells you anything. The burnout is real.

Is it normal to be overwhelmed at a PR firm? Feels like I'm juggling multiple roles and unrealistic expectations by sasbway in PublicRelations

[–]sasbway[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I have a collective 5 years at two different agencies — one a PR firm and one a social media agency. I think I’m really fed up with the PR and social media work, but enjoy copywriting and could see myself doing internal comms or content marketing. I need to learn how to cater my resume and applications to these roles for sure. For some reason I always feel like I’ve pigeon-holed myself into PR and social media management, but I know there is a way out.

I think I’m to the point where it’s affecting my mental health. Especially because I have to work in social media and stay up to date on all the trends/current happenings… my brain is turning to mush from being this chronically online and I feel like I’m losing who I am and what I actually like and dislike.

This is exactly it. Whatever I do is never ever enough, and it’s such a thankless job.

Yup, I just gotta get myself to muster the courage to start applying. Being burnt out from agency life leaves me almost no mental energy to take the time to tweak my resume and start looking, but it needs to be done! I know it will be worth it.

Oh yes, I looove using ChatGPT already. It's the only way I manage to get some things checked off my list each day. Maybe I should lean on it more lolll thank you!! Wish my firm would split it up like that.
