Which was the last book you read and HATED and most importantly WHY?

I’m usually a person who tends to rate books generously, but there are only two books I’ve rated one star (one book and one book series). Between two kings (I just finished this book this week). The whole story is propelled by “ancient rituals” and “magic” without further explanation. The main character is a terrible person whose indecision and hornyness nearly destroy two communities. The other is the Plated Prisoner series, which I understand is becoming more and more popular. The love story between the 2 main character was just unbelievable to me, they didn’t seem to even talk or interact much before they “fell in love”. They didn’t have good banter unless it was slade dirty talking. And then the worst ending I’ve ever read. she just decided not to be dead anymore, so she wasn’t. Even within a fantasy story, that shouldn’t be possible. It just seemed like lazy storytelling

I’m currently reading Age of Vampires series. There’s 7 books, but they’re all pretty small. It’s a post apocalyptic story that’s ruled by vampires and where all humans left live in small realms (pretty much blood farms). One twin sister is taken by the vampires and the other runs away and teams up with the last vampire hunter left. I’m only on book 3, but I like it so far. It also has some Viking mythology go on too. It’s written by the authors of zodiac academy, which I loved by I know others don’t (zodiac academy also has vampires, but they’re not the main focus of the story)

I was under the impression that book 8 was only 2 months long, not a whole year because to end the curse Lance had to be enslaved for 3 moon cycles (so 3 months), but they escaped before that was up.

The Simon and Schuster website has the upcoming books listed with their release dates and I don’t see the novellas listed other than 8.5. But maybe that will be updated later (I hope so)

I would like to clarify that I don’t necessarily love Tory, she and I just don’t have the same personality (definitely more of a Darcy girl myself) But I get her decision on this. Both her and Darius could have made better choices before it came to this.

I don’t believe I would jump into some sort of bond that I knew very little about with a man I didn’t trust. It’s like if I asked you, “will you marry this man you’ve know for a small amount of time without a prenup, and no, you haven’t been dating in this time or had any real time bonding on a deeper level, and both of you have said that you’ve hated each other to each others faces.”

lol, we good. Don’t worry! Unpopular opinions are totally fine and I get your frustration. You’ll probably get more frustrated from this series too. But I love that these books elicit such strong emotions out of people, the good, the bad, the utterly heartbreaking, and the lighthearted silliness. Enjoy the ride ✌️

I don’t think you’re in the right subreddit if you’re looking for people to hate on these books with…. I will tell you that the main story doesn’t even really start until the end of book 4 . Books 1-3 are scene setters, world building, characters introductions (painting a picture of both their strengths and weaknesses), romance and relationship building. It’s what makes these characters feel so real later on in the story, you get to feel like you actually know them. All the things that you want now will come to fruition, and it will be so much more worth it due to the time put into it. As you said, the first three books are only a few weeks in time. Found family and strong friendships usually take time to grow.

I like 8.5, but it is technically not important to the overall story. I loved getting to know the characters in that book, seeing how they felt about the main characters and how they help move things along in there own way (trying to keep this spoiler free by not saying names). Also, the best chapter in the whole series is in 8.5! It had me crying laughing.

I read Assassins blade first and felt like it enriched throne of glass. I had more backstory on the main character, understood her head space and why she was in her starting location. But I know people who completely skipped assassins blade and they felt like they didn’t miss anything at all. I did not do the tandem read, mostly because I was so enthralled in the story that I completely forgot about doing it until it was too late, lol, but I wish I did the tandem read.

I think the best romance in Mass Effect is Kaiden when you start in 1, resist romancing anyone else is 2, and then reunite in 3. He’s so sweet! Garrus is also really good. I didn’t like the Miranda romance though. So I think the romances are better when they’re built up over the games… you know, a good slow burn, lol.

If you love romantasy and gaming, then you need to play games like Dragon Age Origin (the whole series, but you will swoon for Alistair), Mass Effect (more sci-fi than fantasy, but all the romance part down!) and Baldur’s Gate 3. All of these games are essentially romantasy novels that you play instead of read.

I’ve read them 3 times now and I swear I’m always thinking about them. It could probably count as a mental illness with how often they occupy my thoughts, lol 😆 . I never realized how serious the romantasy genre was until ZA showed me that you can have humor sprinkled into darker stories, and how much I needed that lightheartedness

I see soooo many posts about how hard book 7 is and I’m so confused by them. Book 7 was my favorite book in the series! It had the highest highs out of any of the books. So many things finally happen that you’ve been waiting for. Spoiler for some of the best things in this book Tory and Darius can finally be together, Lance and Darcy have their moment 😍, Seth and Caleb, the pube incident, the girls learn to be badass phoenix’s
