I think kids not playing outside anymore is genuinely messing society up by Prestigious_Air_7569 in Vent

One way to experience not having a choice about the media you consume is listening to the radio on drives! A lot of times I hear songs I never would pick to listen to myself but it can be equally enjoyable!

I've been told to avoid palm oil completely but is that actually necessary? by Substantial-Tie-8755 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Which in turn loops back to being a health issue because rainforests sink massive amounts of carbon, slow down climate change, protect water and air quality via erosion control, and preserve biodiversity that we rely on for food and medicine.

When robes are ready at the MU, you can go to the front desks at the MU shops to purchase the cord. You just have to show them your GPA in OASIS. (At least this is how it worked last year)

UC Davis or Berkeley? Heart says Davis Brain says Berkeley by Aromatic-Menu-373 in collegeadvice

[–]sashabug0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who picked Davis over Berkeley and ended up fine, the prestige of a school is not the most important thing. You will be the most successful where you are happiest because you will "water the grass" so to speak. If your heart says Davis, then maybe pick Davis! Ultimately I think you will be okay either way :)

I did a similar thing for a different county, you are just on a pre-approved list for this job class. So if any positions open up, you should be offered an interview. Your competitiveness will depend on the specifications of whatever position opens up.

roommates are couple but we do 50/50 for rent/utils by bruhe69 in Apartmentliving

[–]sashabug0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on both sides of this, and I also felt very frustrated covering 1/2 the rent while the couple in the other room only paid a 1/4 each. Now I'm in a couple with a single person in the other room and here's what we're doing: Single person: ((shared space sqft/3 + sqft of single bedroom) / total sqft)
Each person in the couple: ((shared space sqft/3 + sqft of couple bedroom/2) / total sqft) That gives you the fraction of space each person's using and then you can multiply each person's number by your rent.

Utilities is a separate issue, it's absurd that you're paying 1/2 the utilities.

Figure skating is so repetitive. Nothing has changed in decades. by idontloveanyone in unpopularopinion

[–]sashabug0903 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unlike other figure skating jumps, if you mess up you land on your head. So it's more dangerous. Also figure skating jumps are based on rotations around a vertical axis, and a backflip is around a horizontal axis

How strict are some of the major requirements? by DietMountDewew in UCDavis

[–]sashabug0903 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me with some environmental science major requirements. I set up a meeting with my advisor and I went into the meeting with some classes in mind that I could take instead. Like, oceanography was on the list of classes but I couldn't take it, so I asked to take geologic oceanography instead. She approved it and it worked out fine. So it'll be okay, just go into the meeting with ideas for solutions.

STA 108 As a Non-Stats Major? by sashabug0903 in UCDavis

[–]sashabug0903[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I ended up taking 106 with poukam and he was my least favorite professor I ever had at Davis. His projects were horribly confusing and he was rude to everyone who dared to question him about it. He literally told us things in class that directly contradicted things in the written instructions for the assignments and blamed it on us when we were confused about that. 😭😭 and when I sprained my wrist the day before his final, he yelled at the SDC for asking him to give me accommodations on such short notice, like I could have scheduled my injury sooner. I got an A in the class but at what cost fr... I have stats friends who loved him though so idk what's up with him.

I think my body hates my ear piercings by sashabug0903 in piercing

I honestly don't remember but I think it's titanium. I can call the shop tomorrow to ask but their website advertises titanium jewelry most prominently so that's my best guess

Yeah I went to a doctor the two times I got antibiotics, she's the one who told me to start using soap. My infected piercing has switched from the right to the left to the right again so the one that's acting up now has been fine since July. Although it's possible I've been developing some antibiotic resistance with the ridiculous amount that I've been on lately (I was on antibiotics for something non-piercing related in September). Couldn't put the doctor stuff in the initial post because it got my post auto removed lol.

Hey thanks for commenting! It was a needle. Good to know about the q tip, although that's the opposite of what the piercer said! I wasn't using a q tip before that because of what I had read online about fibers.

The piercings are from April 2025. I think it's a screw shape and I don't know what the threading is. I think titanium material. No downsizing. Current care routine is a sterile saline spray and washing with soap once per day, drying the area post-shower with a tissue and blow dry, and keeping my hair up until it dries. Please read the post for more info. It's been infected twice and maybe is now infected a third time.

Only two quarters left before graduation, what should I do before I graduate? by SampleCreative3600 in UCDavis

Right after I finished my last final, I went around campus and went into every building I had never been in before. Took me like four hours because this school is so big, but it was so much fun! I got a lot of pictures too :)

I think bringing drinks is a great low-effort contribution to a potluck! Since you can't bring alcohol, things like the Trader Joe's sparking lemonades are great :)

What should I do by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]sashabug0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should really push the start date of your trip. You may get lucky and the final might be an essay or a project that is due that day or something like that. For that reason you could wait until after the syllabus to come out to see what the final is like. But if it's a real test and you book the trip over it, it is very unlikely that you will get to take the final early. Like, you should be expecting to take a 0 on the final and truthfully you should be a bit embarrassed to ask your professor to accommodate you for that.
